Ryan Baker-Branstetter Hello, my name is Ryan, and I'm a 34 year old biologist. I loved reading as a teen, then took a break during college (too many textbooks) and slowly got back into it. I had stopped reading for a bit when my twin girls were born, but then transitioned to audio books so I can still get my fill of wonderful books while out walking or commuting. I like just about every genre, with recent emphasis on non-fiction and detective thrillers. Looking forward to the reading challenges to make sure that I'm keeping up with a wide variety of books!

Sha Hi there. My name is Varsha. I'm working on a second degree ( don't ask) and my preferred state of existence is reading. I am particularly fond of scifi/fantasy and romance, but there really isn't a genre bar for the books I read. I'm currently on a god-i-have-not-read-any-classics-must-rectify-that streak, so recommendations would be great.

Again, Hi. :)

Hello, Varsha. Welcome to the group!
We have a classics professor here - Dagny. Please consult with her and I'm sure you'll find the perfect books for you. Oh, and don't forget the Classics Catchup Challenge. It'll be perfect for you. Here's the link: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... :)

Sha Dagny wrote: "Is there any particular category of classics you'd like to try? From a certain country or a particular era? Sad, humorous, mystery? I'm sure we'll have some suggestions."

Thanks for the welcome, both of you. :)

I tend to like character-focused or social-issue centric books. I liked To Kill a Mockingbird, and I'm currently making my way through All Quiet on the Western Front. Uncle Tom's Cabin is probably going to be next on the list. And the looming mass of Les Miserables is always, always staring at me with accusing eyes. I can't read through any of them as fast as I like because of the language, culture and common sense dissonances, but I'm trying, dammit.

This is probably off-topic for this thread though. Should I continue any discussion on other threads?

Harshad Sharma | 1 comments Hello everyone,

I am Harshad, 27, a Financial Research Analyst, a literature lover, a history buff, play guitar, love dogs, doesn't like speaking much, but I love writing, I am an assertive INTJ in Briggs Myers, that is I am a man of simple opinions but I sometimes present them extremely. I am a cynical idealist if that is something as I believe that the greatest of possibilities but I know it is impossible to achieve them. Socially I come out as snobbish and brooding but that's just me preferring to listen rather than speaking as I prefer to keep my thoughts to myself.
As reading goes, I prefer history, travelogues, suspense thrillers, basically I read almost everything except Y/A and self help.

Nice to meet you all/or anyone who read this!!
