message 71: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11344 comments Hi Vi!

I had fun looking through your shelves! There are 2 picks for each rule, the first is from your TBR and the 2nd is new to you (although a couple of the new to you picks are also on your shelves, but it doesn't appear that you've ever read the author before).

1. Contemporary:
Undeniably Yours - You've read the first and third book in the series, but skipped the second? Maybe it's time to remedy that situation!
Enemies on Tap - This one sounds cute, and it's one of the current group buddy read choices.

2. Classical:
Water for Elephants (stand-alone) - This book is amazing, especially in audio!
To Kill a Mockingbird - I'm not a big reader of the classics, but this is one I would really like to read sometime soon.

3. Fantasy:
Drums of Autumn - Looks like you've been reading about 1 book a year from this series, and you're overdue for this year's installment! ;-)
Kindred - I haven't read this one, but my sister raved about it and it sounds very interesting.

4. Historical:
Texas Splendor - I loved this whole series
Untamed - I finally got around to reading this recently and really enjoyed it

5. Paranormal:
Serpent's Kiss - Another series I love...
Dark Protector - First book in a very different PNR series, I read it several years ago and it has really stayed with me...I wish the author would continue the series!

6. Mystery/Suspense:
Festive in Death - Big surprise, huh? I need to try to fit this one in soon, too.
Out Of Her League - Not my favorite book in the series, but still good and they just keep getting better.

7. YA:
On the Island - I'm not a big fan of YA, but I really liked this one
A Wrinkle in Time - This was read to my class by a teacher when I was about 10 years old, and it's one of the very few books I feel the need to reread every few years.

8. Sci-Fi: Recommend a Sci-Fi/Dystopian or a new release.
The Maze Runner - I don't read much Sci-Fi, but this has been getting a lot of buzz with the movie coming out.
The Rosie Effect - Loved the first book, and this one is being released tomorrow (or maybe today for you...). Can't get much newer than that!

I hope you find something you like here, if I've somehow messed it up let me know and I'll try again!

Happy Reading!

Thanks for the great picks, KarenH!! I had read Undeniably Yours (Kowalski Family, #2) by Shannon Stacey before but I had forgotten the story. So I thought I might read it again (and MK also rec'd it last month). I just saw my library has all the new books on overdrive - so I might just go ahead and pick up #4.

I'll (obviously) read Festive in Death (In Death, #39) by J.D. Robb and Texas Splendor (Texas Trilogy, #3) by Lorraine Heath so that I can get caught up on those two series. I'm also going to aim for Serpent's Kiss (Elder Races, #3) by Thea Harrison which should work for the RRRC Tournament. I'll try Drums of Autumn (Outlander, #4) by Diana Gabaldon but the book length just intimidates me (as always). I have been putting off longer books this year so I might just bite the bullet and read.

Thanks again for the awesome recs, KarenH!!

1. Contemporary:
NEW:
Beautiful Bastard, a surprisingly good read with great sex scenes, just sayin'

2. Classical:
NEW:
Memoirs of a Geisha, a classic as far as I'm concerned and a wonderful story.
TBR: The Wright Brother, looked like an interesting standalone :)
Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden The Wright Brother by Marie Hall

3. Fantasy:
NEW:
Dragon Actually, the first book of an extremely funny, sexy series.
TBR: Head Over Heels, a nice read and I think the longest book on your shelf.
Dragon Actually (Dragon Kin, #1) by G.A. Aiken Head Over Heels (Lucky Harbor, #3) by Jill Shalvis

4. Historical:
NEW:
Passion, Erotica + Historical = Yum!
TBR: The Invitation, I love this sexy series!
Passion (Passion Quartet, #1) by Lisa Valdez The Invitation (The Marriage Diaries, #5) by Erika Wilde

5. Paranormal:
NEW:
Raphael, one of my fav vampire series, but beware, it's a little bit of a cliffhanger
TBR: Swan and the Bear, fun & sexy
Raphael (Vampires in America, #1) by D.B. Reynolds Swan and the Bear (Furry United Coalition, #2) by Eve Langlais

6. Mystery/Suspense:
NEW:
Cry No More, the title is a total lie, you're gonna cry. But it's sooooo worth it!
TBR: Escape from Paradise, I think I need to add this to my tbr.
Cry No More by Linda Howard Escape from Paradise (Paradise, #1) by Gwendolyn Field

Daughter of Smoke & Bone, I just finished the last book in this trilogy. Loved it!

Happy Reading!!

message 86: by Vi (new)

Vi | 2794 comments Hi Aarati,

I had a lot of fun looking through your shelves. We have a lot of books in common but there are some my favorites that you haven't read yet. I've tried to give you a mix of books from your TBR and New-To-You (some from your shelves; some not). It was really hard controlling myself!

1. Contemporary:
[N2U] Paradise by Judith McNaught - Okay, this is like a epic contemporary romance. The main characters are very very well established - from the time they met to the past and then the present. It's very well done. One of my favorites.
[TBR] Reckless by Skye Jordan - Sexy cover.

2. Classical:
[N2U] The Palace of Illusions by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni - This is a fiction
work on Draupadi. I'm trying to read more books by Indian authors and she was well rec'd. I haven't read her yet but hoping to soon.
[N2U] After the Night by Linda Howard - A little bit of creative cheating but this has to be a classic. Early Linda Howard books are gems. So this has enemies-to-lovers
trope with a unrequited love trope thrown in too.
[TBR] Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë

3. Fantasy:
[N2U] Lord of the Fading Lands by C.L. Wilson - This was my first fantasy-romance. It's 5 books long and basically it's like a story split into five books. The first two or so are a bit heavy on romance and the last two concentrate on the fantasy. The world-building is fantastic and it started my love affair with fantasy proper (and to find more fantasy-romance)
[N2U] Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey - From the above, I moved on to this - an epic fantasy with romance thrown in. It has a BDSM theme with a lot of sex scenes. It's long but so worth it. One of my favorite trilogy ever.
[TBR] The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan

4. Historical:
[TBR] Fool Me Twice by Meredith Duran - I too have this book on my TBR. Let me know how it was when you read it.
[N2U] Private Arrangements by Sherry Thomas - She's one of my new HR authors apart from Courtney Milan). I'll read just about anything by them.
[N2U] I don't think I saw Western Genre in your bookshelves. I was introduced to it by a GR friend here and I'm still finding books to read. I'd recommend Silver Lining by Maggie Osborne or Texas Destiny by Lorraine Heath. The first is a standalone and the second is a trilogy.

5. Paranormal:
[TBR] Firelight by Kristen Callihan - This is on my read list for next month.
[TBR] Lord of the Vampires by Gena Showalter - I directly read the 4th book by Nalini Singh and skipped the first three. The climax scene suffered for it as I couldn't understand what was going on but I can attest to the romance in that.

6. Mystery/Suspense:
[N2U] You've read contemporaries by Nora Roberts. How about you try her standalone like Angels Fall? Or you could read her futuristic RS series written as J.D. Robb - Naked in Death. If you do audiobooks, I've heard the narrator is very good.
[TBR] Picture Perfect by Elisabeth Grace - It's on your shelf but you haven't read anything by her before.

7. YA:
[N2U] So I'm reading Froi of the Exiles by Melina Marchetta and I'm remembering how much I enjoyed her other books. She writes YA books with an australian setting. You could start off with On the Jellicoe Road or Saving Francesca. Both are excellent.
[TBR] Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry
[TBR] The Faerie Guardian by Rachel Morgan - Love the cover!

8. Sci-Fi:
[TBR] The Girl in the Steel Corset by Kady Cross
[N2U] Ashfall by Mike Mullin - OKay, so technically not a Dystopian. It's actually apocalyptic as the event occurs at the start of the book. A good book nontheless.

Hope you like the picks. If you would like me to repick, please let me know.

Happy Reading!

You are the PNR/UF queen! I've added quite a few books from your list to my TBR. There are some really great series on there.

I hope you find something you like out of your picks. It was hard finding new-to-you (NTU) stuff on some of the categories because you've read so much, but I hope at least one of the new ones will catch your eye!

1. Contemporary:
[TBR] Hot Finish (car on cover and contemporary)
[NTU] It Had to Be You (contemporary)

2. Classical:

Thank you. Think I will start with Play of Passion since I already have it. I have had Eleanor & Park on hold with my library for over a month now, so if that ever comes in I would like to read it. And Lord of the Fading lands sounds interesting.

Grace | 1728 comments Hi MountainKat! Here are your picks for the month. I tried to recommend one book from your TBR and one new book for each category. I hope you find something to enjoy!

1. Contemporary:
a. Reckless by Skye Jordan (New)
b. The Back-Up Plan by Mari Carr (TBR)~~I love this series! This was a really good story about 2 coworkers who fall in love.

2. Classical
a. The Secret by Julie Garwood (New)-This is one of my favorite stories by Garwood. I love her fiery heroines who fall in love with alpha males.
b. The Story Guy by Mary Ann Rivers (TBR)-This looks like a cute standalone story.

3. Fantasy
a. Alpha & Omega by Patricia Briggs (New) This is a short story beginning to Cry Wolf. I really enjoyed this series.
b. Pleasure of a Dark Prince by Kresley Cole (TBR)

4. Historical
a. Provoked by Joanna Chambers(New)-This is a really good start to a series I'm reading. It's a little dark, but was really engaging.
b. Prelude by Anthony Shira (TBR)-I saw this in a Meet & Greet challenge and it looked good so I added it to my TBR.

5. Paranormal
a. The Wallflower by Dana Marie Bell (New)-This is a cute shifter story.
b. Hope Ignites by Jaci Burton (TBR)

6. Mystery/Suspense
a. Size 12 Is Not Fat by Meg Cabot (New)-A funny mystery series I love
b. Ball & Chain by Abigail Roux (TBR)

7. YA
a. Lick by Kylie Scott (New)
b. Wild Irish Christmas by Mari Carr (TBR)-I'm reading this series a little out of order, but I loved this last story. It was a bitter sweet story, but a great conclusion to the series. As you can by 2 picks, Mari Carr is a favorite author.

8. Sci-Fi
a. C791 by Eve Langlais (New)
b. Hard to Hold on To by Laura Kaye (TBR)
