LaurLa | 5085 comments Hi Suzanne! I pick for you and wanted to let you know that I have family in today, have to deal with our broken refrigerator and my son's broken car... so I may not get to your picks until late tomorrow or Monday (maybe late late tonight if I can't sleep). I hate for the delay but wanted you to know so you don't get worried that I missed you.

I promise to get to them as soon as I can.

Thanks Breann and sorry for not responding. I've been crazy busy lately...

Stacey I plan to do your picks later this evening, but hopefully I'll be able to fit them in this afternoon.

Diane ~Firefly~ | 1512 comments Erin

We have a lot of books in common, so I hope I picked some good ones for you. :)

1. Top 40: You really must continue the Kate Daniels series with Magic Rises by Ilona Andrews - I just re-read the series and loved it! Or check out a extra special military man with amnesia who is trying to protect his estranged wife in Forgotten Sins by Rebecca Zanetti

2. Country: Thanks for having an obvious western on your TBR - My Cowboy Heart by Z.A. Maxfield. Or an outdoorsey cover on Cold Burn of Magic by Jennifer Estep - she writes multiple great UF series. This is her newest YA one (I'm anxiously awaiting book 2 next week). This one the MC is a thief who is about to become a reluctant bodyguard in a very dangerous world.

3. Classic Rock: Ok, I'm cheating slighly as this was published the first day of 1990, but it is a great book on your TBR - Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch by Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman. Or start a great fantasy journey as Garion discovers his destiny with Pawn of Prophecy by David Eddings

4. Classical: These are both historical and have been on your TBR for more than a year. I've read the first one and loved it and the second one sounded intriguing. The Mystery Woman by Amanda Quick or The Magpie Lord by K.J. Charles

5. Indie: You seem to like Arthurian legends, so if you can find it The Wizard of 4th Street by Simon Hawke is a great series that incorporates Mordred, Merlin and Morgana. I had never heard of Robyn Peterman until she was recommended to me. A fun, light-hearted shifter story - Ready to Were

6. Blues: You really need to read Night Broken by Patricia Briggs as we finally get some facetime from Christy which will lead to an emotional roller coaster for Mercy. Or check out Dark Descendant by Jenna Black which starts out very confusing but is an interesting UF twist where a certain amount of people who are descendants from pantheons have powers.

7. Alternative Rock: I've never read this as it is too steamy for me, but seems very popular and has rockstars - Backstage Pass by Olivia Cunning. Or check out the cozy mystery genre with Truly, Madly by Heather Webber. Lucy can find objects people are missing and she teams up with the new PI in the building. Kooky characters, a little paranormal and a little mystery make for a fun read.

8. Techno: This is on my TBR as well - Obsession in Death by J.D. Robb. Or check out some sci-fi with Redshirts by John Scalzi, which is a funny take on Star Trek.

Magic Rises (Kate Daniels, #6) by Ilona Andrews Forgotten Sins (Sin Brothers, #1) by Rebecca Zanetti My Cowboy Heart (The Cowboys, #1) by Z.A. Maxfield Cold Burn of Magic (Black Blade #1) by Jennifer Estep Good Omens The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch by Terry Pratchett Pawn of Prophecy (The Belgariad, #1) by David Eddings The Mystery Woman (Ladies of Lantern Street, #2) by Amanda Quick The Magpie Lord (A Charm of Magpies, #1) by K.J. Charles The Wizard of 4th Street (Wizard, #1) by Simon Hawke Ready to Were (Shift Happens, #1) by Robyn Peterman Night Broken (Mercy Thompson, #8) by Patricia Briggs Dark Descendant (Nikki Glass, #1) by Jenna Black Backstage Pass (Sinners on Tour, #1) by Olivia Cunning Truly, Madly (Lucy Valentine, #1) by Heather Webber Obsession in Death (In Death, #40) by J.D. Robb Redshirts by John Scalzi

Top 40:

Rock Chick Revolution (pifm) Must be a good series this book has an average of 4.47.

Broken(new) Set on a ranch. It looks like a really good book, I may have to check it out myself.

Classic Rock:

Jane Eyre(New) Classic romance, one of my favorite books 5 stars.
Texas! Chase (pifm) This book was published in 1991 rather then before 1990, so it's close enough right??

Mine Till Midnight(New) You've read this author but didn't have this book on your shelves, blue cover and a 5 star read.

Alternative Rock:

Rock Hard and Rock Redemption (pifm) I'm suggesting both of these because you need to read book 2 in order to read book 3 which has the rock star
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone(new) It's Harry Potter, a must read! 5 Stars! You don't read middle grade or fantasy so Harry Potter is a good place to start.

Techo:

message 68: by fleurette (new)

fleurette | 287 comments Hi, Alexis
here are my picks for you.

Top 40:
TBR: Written in Red by Anne Bishop - It is rated 4.34. I really liked this series. The world constructed by Anne Bishop is somehow refreshing and different from other books in this genre. Plus, it is really well-written.
NEW: Fire Inside by Kristen Ashley - All books by this author are very popular now. This is the next book in the series you already started and by the author you like.

Country:
TBR: Suddenly Last Summer by Sarah Morgan - This one has an outdoorsy cover and it is a possibility it will contain a lot of outdoor activities. We both read the first book in this series and pretty enjoyed it. This one is also on my tbr list… well, maybe on one of my tbr lists and I'm really looking forward to know your opinion on it.
NEW: Duncan's Bride by Linda Howard - Contemporary western romance. A sweet, sweet story. But I have to warn you it contains some kind of mail order bride theme, some people find it uneasy. Still, it's worth a try.

Classic Rock:
TBR: Midnight Rainbow by Linda Howard - This is the only book from your tbr shelf that was published before 1990. I haven't read this one but I read some other books by Linda Howard and liked them. My goodreads friends gave this one some really good recommendations so I hope you will enjoy it as well.
NEW:A Knight in Shining Armor by Jude Deveraux - A historical romance published in 1989. It is on my tbr list and I also heard many good things about it.

Classical:
TBR:The Evolution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin - The oldest book on your tbr shelf. Since I didn't read many young adult books and you seem to like them, I wanted to suggest you at least one from this genre.
TBR:A Rogue by Any Other Name by Sarah MacLean - A historical romance. The only thing that stopped me from reading the whole series at once was the fact that the last book wasn't yet published then. But now they are all out and if you like this one, that will not bother you.

Indie:
TBR:The Wanderers by Kate Ormand - This one was rated by only 63 people and was published by a smaller company. Also it is another ya book for you.
NEW:One Deadly Sin by Annie Solomon - It's a shame this book has only 191 notes on goodreads since I believe it is a really interesting romantic suspense. I would like you to discover it by yourself.

Blues:
TBR: Mine Till Midnight by Lisa Kleypas - Beautiful blue dress on the cover. This book is a nice start of the series. I saw you enjoyed other series by Kleypas so you will probably like this one as well.
NEW:Archer's Voice by Mia Sheridan - Many people consider this book as emotional. Also many people liked it and since you already tried a book by this author I hope you will like it.

Alternative Rock:
NEW: Cut & Run by Abigail Roux, Madeleine Urban - You are not very familiar with mm romance but you liked Hot Head by Damon Suede so I think you can give a try to this one.
NEW: Rock Addiction by Nalini Singh - I also noted that you haven't read many erotic romance, so I suggest you to try this one. Also Zachary, the hero, is a rockstar so it suits well this rule. You are already familiar with Nalini Singh. I hope you will also like this book.

Techno:
TBR: Naked in Death by J.D. Robb - It perfectly works for both categories since it is a futuristic romantic suspense. I absolutely love this series and I'm glad you also liked it. So I suggest you to make a reread.
NEW: Birthright by Nora Roberts - J.D. Robb is the pseudonym of Nora Roberts. I want you to give a try to one of her stand-alone romantic suspense. This is my favourite one, I hope you will like it as much as I did.

Written in Red (The Others, #1) by Anne Bishop Fire Inside (Chaos, #2) by Kristen Ashley Suddenly Last Summer (O'Neil Brothers, #2) by Sarah Morgan Duncan's Bride (Patterson/Cannon Family, #1) by Linda Howard Midnight Rainbow (Kell Sabin, #1) by Linda Howard A Knight in Shining Armor by Jude Deveraux The Evolution of Mara Dyer (Mara Dyer, #2) by Michelle Hodkin A Rogue by Any Other Name (The Rules of Scoundrels, #1) by Sarah MacLean The Wanderers (The Wanderers, #1) by Kate Ormand One Deadly Sin by Annie Solomon Mine Till Midnight (The Hathaways, #1) by Lisa Kleypas Archer's Voice by Mia Sheridan Cut & Run (Cut & Run, #1) by Abigail Roux Rock Addiction (Rock Kiss, #1) by Nalini Singh Naked in Death (In Death, #1) by J.D. Robb Birthright by Nora Roberts

Penney (pschoener) | 3553 comments Ok Stacey, here are your picks! I tried to pick a few new-to-you books that were a bit out of your comfort zone but I think you'll enjoy them. Here we go...

1. Top 40:
(TBR) The Headmaster ~ For a while this book wasn't available and I waited and waited for it to be re-released. It's currently on Amazon for $2.99!!
(NEW) Beautiful Bastard ~ I loved this book, it wasn't what I expected it to be. The series in general is very popular right now too. I think it's right up your alley.
The Headmaster by Tiffany Reisz Beautiful Bastard (Beautiful Bastard, #1) by Christina Lauren

2. Country:
(TBR) The Gamble ~ If you like Kristin Ashley and her alpha males, you'll enjoy this one too.
(TBR) Smooth Talking Stranger ~ I'm really stretching it with the western theme here, but this book is really worth it.
The Gamble (Colorado Mountain, #1) by Kristen Ashley Smooth Talking Stranger (Travises, #3) by Lisa Kleypas

3. Classic Rock:
(TBR) Sapphire and Shadow ~ It's the closest I could get to 1990 and it looks good :)
(NEW) Outlander ~ I consider this to be a modern day classic. I know it's long but it's an incredible book; well written, well thought out and well researched. I recommend it (and every book in the series) every chance I get.
Sapphire and Shadow (A Woman's Life, #1) by Marie Ferrarella Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon

4. Classical:
(TBR) A Knight in Shining Armor ~ One of my favorite Jude Deveraux books so if you're going to dip into historical romance, she's a must read author.
(NEW) Passion ~ Historical Erotic Romance, what an awesome combo!
A Knight in Shining Armor by Jude Deveraux Passion (Passion Quartet, #1) by Lisa Valdez

5. Indie:
(TBR) The Heart of the Hunter ~ I've never heard of it, but it looks like a great read.
(NEW) Radiance ~ My newest "go-to" rec, I think it's just starting to make the rounds. It may not be something you'd usually pick up, but I promise you it's a great read. In my opinion, there's nothing typical about this romance between two different species. Very well written book!
The Heart of the Hunter by Natalie-Nicole Bates Radiance (Wraith Kings, #1) by Grace Draven

6. Blues:
(TBR) Into the Deep ~ I love this author! I have no idea why it wasn't on my tbr...it is now!
(NEW) The Reluctant Dom ~ Great book! Bring the tissues...
Into the Deep (Into the Deep, #1) by Samantha Young The Reluctant Dom (The Suncoast Society) by Tymber Dalton

7. Alternative Rock:
(NEW) Angels' Blood ~ I didn't see a lot of paranormal on you lists so I wanted to share two of my favorites with you. This one is a little more serious and deep. Nalini Singh really digs into the psyche of an ancient being. I love what she did with these characters!
(NEW) Dragon Bound ~ A bit lighter, with more humor and so, so good!
Angels' Blood (Guild Hunter, #1) by Nalini Singh Dragon Bound (Elder Races, #1) by Thea Harrison

message 74: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11356 comments Hey Diane ~Firefly~ !

I had fun playing in your shelves...our tastes are pretty different, but I still found some books that made their way onto my wishlist! :D

Here are your picks, I hope you find something that looks good to you.

Top 40: Recommend a book that’s popular right now or a new release or a book with an average rating over 4.0 stars
New: The Sweet Gum Tree – GR rating of 4.33...this is one of those books that I wasn't sure I even wanted to read, but now I can't stop thinking about it!
TBR: Sweep in Peace – So new it's not even out yet! Release date Nov. 13.

Country: Recommend a western book or a book with an outdoorsy character or a book with an outdoorsy cover
New: Virgin River – To steal a line from a friend, this series (actually this author), especially in audio, is like comfort food for me...so good!
TBR: Broken Hearted Ghoul – This looks cute and definitely outdoorsy

Classic Rock: Recommend a book that you consider a classic romance or a book published before 1990
New: Pride and Prejudice - my idea of the ultimate classic romance, or Outlander – anything that maintains the popularity this has for almost 25 years has to be considered a classic.
TBR: The Liar or Fearless Fourteen – I think anything by Nora Roberts would have to be considered classic, and Stephanie Plum has been chasing skips for over 20 years and people still enjoy her antics.

Classical: Recommend a historical book or a book that’s been on you pickee’s shelves longer than a year (if there aren’t any, then choose one of the oldest)
New: It Happened One Autumn – You read the first in this series several years ago and enjoyed it, why not give it another shot?
TBR: Crazy Love – I really need to get back to this series someday...

Indie: Recommend a lesser known book or a book from a smaller publishing company
New: Out of Time – Fun time-travel story with some paranormal creatures included...and bonus, it's free for Kindle right now at Amazon!
TBR: Thieves Like Us – This has been out for several years and still has just over 100 ratings, so I guess it qualifies as lesser known! =P

Blues: Recommend an emotional book or a book with blue on the cover
New: Do Over – This is one of my go-to recommendations, it's short but so emotional and so good!
TBR: Shadowspell – you have lots of blue covers on your shelf, but this is one of the more highly rated.

Alternative Rock: Recommend a book from genre new to your pickee or a book with a rockstar
New: Several options here – I couldn't decide which way to go, and no TBR choices for this one, they're all new! :D
The Madness of Lord Ian MacKenzie – historical isn't really a new genre for you, but you haven't read much at all in the last few years, so maybe you want to give it another try?
The Mistake – I saw almost no NA on your shelves, but you did read the first book in this series and rated it highly.
Play – another NA, and also a rock star!
The Ghost on My Couch – Maybe out of your comfort zone (which is one reason I gave you more picks here), but if you're interested in trying an m/m story, this one is a cute, fun ghost story with no sex (on the page or off).

Techno: Recommend a sci-fi or futuristic book or a romantic suspense
New: Extreme Exposure – I love anything that Pamela Clare writes, and while this isn't one of my favorites of hers, it's a great start to a wonderful series that just keeps getting better and better.
TBR: Mirror, Mirror – I've only read the “In Death” novella included in this, but I enjoyed it as I expected to, or Your Planet or Mine? - I read this several years ago and don't remember a lot about it, except that I did enjoy it.

Happy Reading!

MountainKat | 31622 comments Hi Jessica, here are your picks. I hope I came up with some good ones for you!

Top 40:
NEW: Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison - Wonderfully fun and excellent in audio! Or Dance of the Gods by Nora Roberts - You really liked the first and I thought this trilogy was really good!
TBR: The King by J.R. Ward - You know you want to continue this series! Or The Next Always by Nora Roberts - Another good trilogy!

Country:
NEW: The Newcomer by Robyn Carr - I recently listened to and enjoyed this one and you liked the first.
TBR: Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh - Really good series, even better in audio! Or Comanche Moon by Catherine Anderson - It's been a while, but I remember really liking this one!

Classic Rock:
NEW: Something About You by Julie James or Simply Irresistible by Jill Shalvis - both are classic examples of what romance is all about!
TBR: Kiss of the Highlander by Karen Marie Moning - Not only classic romance, but one of the most romantic books I've ever read! And excellent in audio too! Honestly, from one who is obsessed with reading series in order, you can start here. But if you just can't, go ahead and read #1.

Classical:
NEW: Surrender by Pamela Clare - There are not enough superlatives to describe this book and it is even better in audio too!
TBR: In Bed with a Highlander by Maya Banks - This trilogy is so good! Or A Kiss at Midnight - I love fairy tales, great retelling! I listened to this and loved it!

Indie:
NEW: Out of Time by Monique Martin - A different setting, but really good story. Free at Amazon too!
TBR: The Better Man by Amy Vastine - Looks good and doesn't have a lot of ratings.

Blues:
NEW: On Dublin Street by Samantha Young - Loved this! Or for something lighter, How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf by Molly Harper - Great audio, fun story and she is the FAC author for November too!
TBR: Pleasure Unbound by Larissa Ione - Really good series, full of shades of gray - nothing is black and white and it makes you think!

Alternative Rock:
NEW: Hearts in Darkness by Laura Kaye or Shaken by Dee Tenorio - Both stories are short, but VERY good!

Techno:
NEW: Naked in Death by J.D. Robb - You seem to like her as Nora Roberts, maybe you should give these a try too - then you will understand why everyone sighs when they think of Roarke!
TBR: The Darkest Hour by Maya Banks - This book grabbed my emotions and didn't let go! I was on pins and needles waiting for everything to resolve!

Happy Reading!!
