MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 5312 comments We've been thinking of getting rid of it. No matter what we do, the price keeps creeping up.

:-(

And like you, we have the hated Comcast. Our bill just went up again so we're getting rid of more services and then we'll see.

message 4002: by Nyssa (new)

Nyssa | 2023 comments We've been cable and dish free for about 4 years now, using Netflix and Hulu instead.

There have only been a small handful of times that we've missed network tv, but not often or for long.

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 5312 comments The only issue we have with going is sports, tbh.

message 4004: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes I love my sports, but I've just switched to reading more of the news instead of watching. I just don't have time to watch games anymore really. I do love the hockey though, but it tended to end up being like the radio in the background instead of watching, so if I need a hockey fix I listen to our junior team on the radio. Ranked number 1 in Canada right now! Woohoo!

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments We've been trying to find a way to cancel it as well. I really just want local channels, food network, and HGTV. But we haven't found anything that has everything we want yet (stupid CBS) and don't want to have to subscribe to a bunch of different things, so we haven't made a move yet.

THIS!!!

Plus whatever channel that gives me Faceoff (Syfy?).

Though I do have to have the NFL channel during football season...that doesn't start up for a while yet.

message 4007: by Dawn, Dawnerys, Mother of Modding (last edited Feb 23, 2017 08:10AM) (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments A lot of syfy shows are showing up on Netflix now, so I don't worry about that.

I just like some sitcoms and stupid reality shows on local channels.. The Bachelor, Survivor, stuff like that. Those don't always make it to Netflix. I'd just get Hulu too, but CBS is an a-hole and has their own thing, so I'd need that too.. 3 subscription services just for local stuff is too annoying.

Food Network and HGTV I can live without, I just like them for casual watching.

message 4008: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) We are cable free too. I hesitated pulling the plug, but now that I got used to it I don't miss cable. It's a different way of watching TV. We purposely watch stuff rather than flipping through junk and getting sucked in. Quite honestly, I don't feel like I miss stuff because even when I had cable I didn't utilize all the channels and I wasted a lot of time on mindless shows (*cough*reality shows*cough*).

Depending on your region your TV can automatically pick up basic digital channels, plus if you need more channels or clarity you can pick up a cheap antenna contraption. My father-in-law actually made his own and it works out great for him.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments There are places on the internet where you can find pretty much any regular show to stream...

Just saying...

(Not so sure about the reality TV stuff, but I'm sure you could find it.)

Jackie (thenightowl) MrsJoseph wrote: "I cannot survive without HGTV."

Aren't some of these shows popping up on Netflix now?

message 4012: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, Bad Girls Deadlift (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 5312 comments We don't have Netflix.

Well, I don't know if that's true. I think we have Netflix via a cousin or something.

But I don't use Netflix, I'd have to ask hubby.

But I don't watch a lot of scripted TV shows. I'm not much of a TV/movie kinda gal.

I like home improvement shows, Jeopardy, Sports, Faceoff, Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, and shows like Faceoff.

Everything else is hubby.

message 4013: by Dawn, Dawnerys, Mother of Modding (last edited Feb 23, 2017 08:53AM) (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments I just don't want the hassle of having to go looking for shows. I just want to pull them up in one place, whether that be on my DVR or Netflix or something else. It's pure laziness, and I know it's wasting money too. We are going to make a switch soon, just haven't decided what yet.

message 4030: by colleen the convivial curmudgeon, Not a book hipster! (new)

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments I have this weird thing about being underwhelmed with prequels, and I can only think that part of it is because I know how things are going to turn out...

But I don't have the same problem, really, when I reread something...

And, really, I know ultimately how most stories I read are going to turn out, anyway...

So it's not logical, but I can't seem to shake it...

I'm the same way. I rarely watch prequel anything (made that mistake with StarWars) but I love to reread.

I did read one prequel that I love but it's part of a series I love...and it's written in a way that it ends almost directly at the beginning of the first book in the series.

message 4040: by Mike (the Paladin) (new)

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments I'm not big on prequels either...especially when they take place in a series still to be finished. I hate waiting for the next "installment" in the story and the next book released is a prequel that takes us all the way back to before the series started.

maybe after the series is complete, but why before?

message 4041: by colleen the convivial curmudgeon, Not a book hipster! (new)

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments The one I'm reading is for a completed series, so there's that. It's basically giving more info and depth for stuff you heard about in the main series... I'm just having trouble getting into it as much as the original.

(And the Star Wars prequels had issues aside from being prequels... Oi.)

That helps (a lot) but still... I agree.

The one prequel I like is in the same vein but this has been the only one I've really liked that I;ve read as a prequel. Most of the time if I read them I start there (because the series is complete).

I HATE StarWars Prequels.
