Thank you for my picks Isa, you did great. There's a lot there that looks good, but November is a busy month for me. I'm going to try and read Wicked as They Come (Blud, #1) by Delilah S. Dawson and Love Unscripted (Love, #1) by Tina Reber , then go back to the list if I have more time later.

message 103: by Penney (new)

Penney (pschoener) | 3553 comments Ok Miss. Breann, lets take advantage of nap time! I'm really nervous about these picks because, 1) although I enjoy m/m, I'm not very acquainted with the genre. Somehow I managed to stick with books that are at least on my tbr, if not read by me. I don't know how I had that many books that you hadn't already read. 2) I made picks from more than one of your TBRs, I hope that's ok. And 3) I had to try and make things fit into the categories. That eliminated a lot of choices. So if you'd like me to make re-picks I'll be more than happy to oblige :)
Here we go...

1. Foodie: Wallbanger by Alice Clayton (New) Honestly, I couldn't find anything else to fit this category. I really enjoyed this funny, sexy read though.

2. Techie: Evenfall (In the Company of Shadows, #1) by Santino Hassell (TBR) I stole this from someone else's picks last month and found a free copy on Amazon. It's really long, but it looks really, really good!

3. Fashionista: Agamemnon Frost and the House of Death by Kim Knox (TBR) I grabbed this off your TBR because he was dressed nicely. Looks fun though :)

4. Kiddies: Calvin's Cowboy by Drew Hunt (New) His cowboy has a 15 year old kid. I've been wanting to get to this one, maybe this is the month.

5. Traveler: Downtime by Tamara Allen (TBR) Time travel is pretty darn exotic, no? I got this as a freebie, but haven't had a chance to read it yet.

6. Artistically Challenged: A Red-Tainted Silence by Carolyn Gray (New) If you like angst at all, you'll like this read.

7. Book Lover: The Sweet Gum Tree by Katherine Allred (TBR) This had one of the highest ratings (in relation to the number of ratings) on your TBR. I just read a very similar book called A Place to Call Home. I'll have to add this one to my TBR.

8. Stocking Stuffer: Beneath the Neon Moon by Theda Black (New) This is another book from my tbr that I'm inexplicably waiting to read. I really need to get on these!

I really hope you find something among these choices that you'll enjoy. Like I said, if you'd like re-picks, just let me know.
HAPPY READING!

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) | 2657 comments For you Debra:
Here is your Holiday Shopping Guide. I tried to pair a book from our To-Be-Read List and a New to You book. I noticed you love HRs, but I threw in a few contemporary romances that were really feel good stories. I hope one of them speaks to you.

1. Foodie: Food/Dining was a big source of topic and important events occured pertaining to food in these books.
In Bed with a Highlander (McCabe Trilogy, #1) by Maya Banks (TBR) Edenbrooke (A Proper Romance) by Julianne Donaldson (New to You)

2. Techie: These are Dystopian and YA, but have love stories. Technology, speficially cameras and constant monitoring using audiovisual equipment was rampagnt in these books.
Shatter Me (Shatter Me, #1) by Tahereh Mafi (TBR); Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth (New to You)

3. Fashionista: The covers just spoke to me, but as you know ballgowns and manner of dress are always important in HRs.
The Black Lyon (Montgomery, #1) by Jude Deveraux (TBR); Honor's Splendour by Julie Garwood (New to You)

4. Kiddies: Both books involve kids/adolescents and they were very entertaining or a source of amusement for me.
Seduction and Snacks (Chocolate Lovers, #1) by Tara Sivec (TBR); The Fault in Our Stars by John Green (New to You)

5. Traveler: Both books took place in more than one country, in fact, I believe both had locations in more than one continent.
Whispers in the Dark (KGI, #4) by Maya Banks (TBR); Fallen (After Trilogy, #1) by Traci L. Slatton (New to You)

6. Artistically Inclined: Beautiful covers and beautiful stories.
Some Like It Wicked (Kincaid Highlander, #1) by Teresa Medeiros (TBR); Night Road by Kristin Hannah (New to You)

7. Book Lover: (Rated high by ME, LOL!)
The Hellion and the Highlander (Devil of the Highlands, #3) by Lynsay Sands (TBR); Heartless (Georgian, #1) by Mary Balogh (New to You)

message 116: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31599 comments Hi Christina! Here are your picks - I hope you find one (or more) that you want to read this month! I tried to mix it up with some of your shelves and some new. I got several off your 'to-read-first' shelf, you didn't have it listed as your preferred shelf, but I got the idea these were high on the pile! Maybe this is just the excuse you have been waiting for - I hope so, because some of them are really very good! I don't know if you like audiobooks, but I will mark ones I thought were especially good in audio with an *. Even if you don't, you might want to give some of these a chance, audiobooks are a great way to get through a commute or household chores!

1. Foodie: This one was easy! Well, at least the first pick was... You have Summer Desserts (Great Chefs, #1) by Nora Roberts on your to-read-first shelf -seems custom made for this spot! I read this one years ago, so I don't remember much about it - you will have to refresh my memory after you read it. New to you is Wallbanger* by Alice Clayton. I read this a few months ago for the group buddy read and I laughed so much and it had a great story too! Also new to you is Simply Irresistible by Rachel Gibson. I'm reading this for the FAC this month, buddy read maybe?

2. Techie: I see you are a fan of Eve and Roarke too! But you haven't continued beyond the first three books, though I can't talk I've only read the first five. So even though it is new, I feel confident you will like Rapture in Death* by J.D. Robb. From your to-read-first shelf I picked Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh. You can't get more techie than the Psy!

3. Fashionista: I think Julie James' books have beautiful covers! Her FBI/US Attorneys series begins with Something About You - I loved that one, it was funny and sweet and so well written! Other than that, I think the clothes on historicals are so pretty, so I picked two of my favorites of your shelves! The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie* by Jennifer Ashley and Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake by Sarah Maclean were both very good!

4. Kiddies: From your shelves I picked Flat-Out Sexy by Erin McCarthy - I loved the way he loved her! I loved so much about that book! New to you is from another series I love, Exclusively Yours by Shannon Stacey. The family and kids in that book/series are wonderful! Especially all of their 'Tournaments of Doom'!

5. Traveler: I picked A Hunger Like No Other* by Kresley Cole for you here, parts of that book take place all over the world. You could also read The Warlord Wants Forever, but I don't think it is necessary - and I am completely OCD about reading books in order. And yet, here I go suggesting another book out of order... It seems you enjoy Karen Marie Moning's books so I am going to suggest Kiss of the Highlander. I think this is the most romantic book I have ever read! And it is funny too! Again, until this book, I don't think the series needs to be read in order but you could go with #2 if you want. It's not as good though. =P I noticed several Nora Roberts' books on your favorites shelf, but that you haven't read her Gallaghers of Ardmore series. It begins with Jewels of the Sun and I remember really liking it, even though it has been a long time since I read it.

6. Artistically Inclined: New to you is another book I loved, with an writer as a main character. On Dublin Street by Samantha Young lived up to all the hype for me! I find the world Larissa Ione writes about so incredibly creative! I also really like this cover, something about it works - the book is great too! So I am going to suggest you continue her Lord's of Deliverance series with Immortal Rider*. Another wonderful world is created in Dragon Bound* by Thea Harrison - the cover is pretty too!

7. Book Lover: Open Season by Linda Howard is a wonderful and funny book about a librarian! I loved it and it was my first Linda Howard, but not my last! Another new to you book is Heaven, Texas* by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. You loved the first book It Had to Be You and gave it five stars, you know you want to continue! And Heaven, Texas has one of the best grovel scenes ever!! From your to-read-first shelf, I picked Virgin River* by Robyn Carr. This series is like comfort food for me!

Stocking Stuffer: First a story that involves Christmas - Simply Irresistible by Jill Shalvis. Sweet, funny and romantic - I love this series! Two amazing shorties for you, always good around the holidays when you are trying to squeeze in the reading around family and celebrations, Do Over by Mari Carr and Shaken by Dee Tenorio. Both of those are stories I discovered through this challenge and I am sooo happy to pass them on to you - I loved them both!!

I know I get a little carried away, but I can't help myself! Happy Reading!!

~KarenH~ | 11344 comments Ok Fran, here we go! I picked about 50/50 from your TBR and new to you, but not necessarily one of each in every category.

1. Foodie: A Taste of Love – the first book in a series that I really enjoyed, with great characters, OR Ravenous – short, sweet, second chance at love story.

2. Techie: Holiday Sparks – Cute love story and the heroine is Chloe if you still need that for the quarterly challenge :D OR Visions of Heat…I know you’re not much into PNR these days, but I wanted to find something futuristic and you rated the first book highly – might be worth revisiting the series!

3. Fashionista: Take Me – you read the second book, but not the first one…and the heroine is another that fits in the quarterly challenge, Lily. OR The Look of Love – another by Bella Andre, and the first book in the Sullivans series (and another Chloe...). Not my favorite book in the series, but still good, and I LOVE the Sullivans!

4. Kiddies: Acrobat – I’ve been wanting to read this one forever and it keeps getting pushed aside, so if you’re interested in a buddy read, I’d be up for it! OR All She Wants For Christmas – short Christmas story (first in a trilogy, all good) with a really cute kid…and a dad named Ethan ;-)

5. Traveler: Sidecar – this was way better than I was expecting, even though Amy Lane has never disappointed me…I loved it! OR Sweet Inspiration – just plain fun!

6. Artistically Inclined: - Gee, let me think…how about Aria? :D OR another one I know you’ve been wanting to read, Life in Fusion

7. Book Lover: Screwdriver – I’m reading this right now, and enjoying it as much as I do most of Mari Carr’s work. OR Venus in Blue Jeans – I put this one off forever for no good reason, but when I finally read it I thought it was great.

8. Stocking Stuffer: Shaken – I never would have imagined so much emotion could be packed into such a short book…really good. OR If I Must – short, sweet and fun.

I hope you enjoy your picks…I loved picking for you again!

A Taste of Love by Andrew Grey Ravenous by Eden Summers Holiday Sparks by Shannon Stacey Visions of Heat (Psy-Changeling #2) by Nalini Singh Take Me (Take Me, #1) by Bella Andre The Look of Love (The Sullivans, #1) by Bella Andre Acrobat by Mary Calmes All She Wants For Christmas (Kent Brothers, #1) by Jaci Burton Sidecar by Amy Lane Sweet Inspiration (Klaus Brothers, #1) by Penny Watson Aria (Blue Notes, #3) by Shira Anthony Life in Fusion (Sno Ho, #2) by Ethan Day Screwdriver (Cocktales, #2) by Mari Carr Venus in Blue Jeans (Konigsburg, #1) by Meg Benjamin Shaken by Dee Tenorio If I Must by Amy Lane

Ashley | 449 comments Hello Ty,
Here are my recs for you. I hope that you enjoy them and please let me know if you would like any repicks.

Foodie
Wilde Thing by Janelle Denison (TBR) – The main character in this book owns a coffee house. This is another book that I have not read yet and have added to my tbr list.
Wilde Thing (Wilde Series, #1) by Janelle Denison

Garden Spells by Allen, Sarah Addison (NEW) – I love this book and the main character has her own catering business.
Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen

Techie
Scarlet by Marissa Meyer (TBR) - I am impatiently awaiting the third installment to this series. As you know from the first book it is a futuristic series with a techie. P.S. I read that you have found a new obsession for books with fighting/MMA and in this book the hero is a fighter.
Scarlet (Lunar Chronicles, #2) by Marissa Meyer

Fashionista
No Good Duke Goes Unpunished by Sarah MacLean (TBR) – I couldn’t find a fashion industry book in your tbr list. However I love the dress that the model on this cover is wearing.
No Good Duke Goes Unpunished (The Rules of Scoundrels, #3) by Sarah MacLean

Lola and the Boy Next Door Perkins, Stephanie (NEW) – This is the second book in the series but can be read as a standalone.
Lola and the Boy Next Door (Anna and the French Kiss, #2) by Stephanie Perkins

Kiddies
Love in the Afternoon by Kleypas, Lisa (TBR) - Beatrix is very family oriented and spends time with her nephew. I loved how this romance developed through letters. It was nice reading a historical romance where the characters spent more time getting to know each other prior to the wedding. My only complaint was the hero’s pigheadness.
Love in the Afternoon (The Hathaways, #5) by Lisa Kleypas

Law Man by Kristen Ashley (NEW) – I love this book! I noticed that you have read the 1st and last book in this series but not the middle two. This is my favorite book of Kristen Ashley’s.
Law Man (Dream Man, #3) by Kristen Ashley

Traveler
Steel's Edge Andrews, Ilona (TBR) – They travel to another world which is pretty exotic in my opinion.
Steel's Edge (The Edge, #4) by Ilona Andrews

The Pirate Prince by Gaelen Foley (NEW)
The Pirate Prince (Ascension Trilogy #1) by Gaelen Foley

Artistically Inclined
The Wicked Deeds of Daniel Mackenzie by Jennifer Ashley (TBR) – I think that working as a fake medium is a pretty creative talent. I have not read this one yet. Would you like to buddy read?
The Wicked Deeds of Daniel Mackenzie (Highland Pleasures, #6) by Jennifer Ashley

Born in Fire by Nora Roberts (NEW)
Born in Fire (Born In Trilogy, #1) by Nora Roberts

Book Lover
Heart of Obsidian by Singh, Nalini (TBR) - I loved this book. Actually I am pretty in love with the whole series but some books I like better than the other and this was one of the better ones.
Heart of Obsidian (Psy-Changeling, #12) by Nalini Singh

Beautiful Disaster by McGuire, Jamie (NEW) – This book is a highly rated guilty pleasure. Also just for you it has a fighter in it. There is really only one main fight but he uses it as a way to pay his way through college.
Beautiful Disaster (Beautiful, #1) by Jamie McGuire

Stocking Stuffer
Perfect Mate by Mina Carter (TBR) – This is one of your shortest books on your tbr list and I must say I am intrigued by the summary and have just added it to my tbr list.
Perfect Mate (Project Rebellion, #1) by Mina Carter

Sudden Response Mathewson, R.L. (NEW) – Two hundred pages is short..... Right?
Sudden Response (EMS, #1) by R.L. Mathewson

Runell, thanks for all of the picks! I can't decide which one I'll start with but I'll post an update when I figure it out. I have never read M/M but it's not anything I'm against...just something I hadn't really thought about. I will have to see if my library carries those. The library is pretty much my only source for books, other than those I already own. I have tried to e-read and it never catches on with me. I tried reading on my tablet and hated it and books just sit around on my computer, never read. Anyway... loved the picks and I know that I'll choose at least one of them, if not a few! Thanks again. :)

Christina (christinaovallsbooks) | 384 comments Hi Angie!

I didn't know what type of books you liked best, so I gave you a wide variety. I hope you find something that you like.

1. Foodie - For the food aficionado, please recommend a book where food is a major part of the plot OR a book that focuses on the Thanksgiving dinner.
Evil Eclairs by Jessica Beck (from your TBR). This looks like a nice fun book.

2. Techie - For the gadget obsessed, please recommend a book that takes place in the future OR a book where the character works or involved in the technological field.
Insurgent - This is definitely set in a dystopian future. I liked this book and the third one came out earlier this month, so I thought you might be interested in getting up to date on this one.
Naked in Death by J.D. Robb - If you like mysteries, this is a good mystery with a very strong female lead character and it is set in the future. This is the first in the series. There is a very good love story in here as well.

3. Fashionista - For the fashion friendly, please recommend a book that has a character working in the fashion industry (model, designer, etc) OR a book cover with a really nice dressed model.
Undead and Unwed by MaryJanice Davidson - This is a funny vampire book. She is very much into fashion

4. Kiddies - For the cute tots, please recommend a book that has babies/kids involved OR a book with holiday related theme that focuses on families.
Cade by Liliana Hart - This one talks about both her family and his family a lot. This is a great book that borderlines on erotica. I thought I would throw at least one book in here that was a little spicy in case you were interested.
Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare - This book is a young adult book and is an urban fantasy book.

5. Traveler - For the jet-setter, please recommend a book that takes place in more than one country OR a book where the character(s) go on vacation or an exotic destination.
Shadow's Claim - Kresley Cole (new). I read this one a while ago and I loved it. It is the first in a series and I loved the characters for this book.

6. Artistically Inclined - For the creative souls, please recommend a book where the character has an artistic/creative talent OR a book cover that you love or a cover that speaks to you.
Kiss of Midnight - Lara Adrian - I love the covers on these books. This is a different kind of vampire book. The vampires aren't the traditional ones, but I'll let you find out about them from the book. No spoilers.
Butterfly Swords - Jeannie Lin - I thought this book cover was very pretty.
Born in Fire - Nora Roberts. This is a contemporary romance with a fiery lead character who is an artist.

7. Book Lover - For the bookworms (That's Us!!!), please recommend a book that has received high ratings OR a book where the character works at the library, bookstore OR is a writer.
Island Girls by Nancy Thayer - This is a chick-lit book with a romance tied in and a lot of family dynamics. One of the main characters is a teacher/writer.
Gunmetal Magic by Ilona Andrews - I noticed that you have read other books by Ilona Andrews. This was a great book with a lot of action and tension between the two main characters. I loved this book.

8. Stocking Stuffer - For the small trinkets to add to the stocking, please recommend a book that is a short story/novella OR a books that has a Christmas theme.
Skipping Christmas - John Grisham - I loved this book. The movie "Christmas with the Kranks" was based on this book. If you haven't seen the movie yet, give it a try. It is a shorter story and you will fly through it.

Visions of Sugar Plums by Janet Evanovich - This is a short story that made me laugh as well. If you have a kindle, I can see if this one is lendable. Let me know if you are interested.

1. Foodie – For a fun, chit-lit romance (with an older heroine), try Kate Jacob’s Comfort Food. I thought that it was a lot of fun. Alternately, Annette Blair’s The Kitchen Witch is cute and funny.

3. Fashionista – From your TBR, a pretty cover: Awakening (The Watchers Trilogy #1)
