Monsieur Mango Tango (mangotangoNBRC) | 99 comments Here’s a link to the official rules! (LINK)

Book advantage point prizes:
1st place: 10 BAPs
2nd place: 8 BAPs
3rd place: 6 BAPs
4th place: 4 BAPs
5th place: 2 BAPs

Set a just-for-fun goal, strictly for challenging yourself. Then, READ READ READ! The important number here is PAGE COUNT. Get as many pages in as you can!

The way it will work is as follows: The sum of all the pages we read divided by the sum of the participants TTRC goal, multiplied times 100 equals our Read-a-thon Ratio. The team with the highest ratios will be awarded the BAPs for placing in the top five. Example: Jane reads 1200 pages, Steven reads 600, Karla reads 700. That’s 2500 pages. Divide that by the sum of their goals (150+100+100=350) to get base (2500/350 = 7.14), which multiplied times 100 = 714 points. If that was the highest at the end, we win the points (or place in the top five).

Word count doesn’t matter, but the book needs to follow ALL normal TTRC rules (160+ pages, no graphic novels, etc) to count. If you’re reading an ebook or an audio book, you can only count the pages read once you’ve completed the book (if you need help with page numbers, you can go to Countess Paige’s thread for Page Numbers, as usual!) UNLESS you can calculate it based on the % read of the correct edition!

Only pages read DURING the challenge will count. So if you start a book beforehand or finish one afterwards, you’ll need to keep track of where you were when it started/finished and ONLY count pages WITHIN the dates. Monsieur Mango and Steven are relying on you to be accurate in keeping track of your pages each day and reporting them HERE IN THIS THREAD. Make sure that you update us often, so we can stay on top of things! 

Post your updates HERE on this thread. Monsieur Mango or Steven will post updates to the official update thread when needed.

The official update thread is found HERE.

Steven (gallifreyan1218) Karla, just an FYI, your total at the top doesn't equate to the pages you've got listed on your specific days! Can you make sure they match? Thank you so much!

Nicole, can you add a running total at the top of yours? thanks!

Lisa, can you add daily totals to yours as well? Thanks! :D

Jane, your running total at the top doesn't match your pages marked either... can you fix that please? Thank you! :)

Nancy, your pages marked don't add up to your running total either! Please check that, thanks!!!

Sallie, can you add daily totals to yours? thanks :D

Steven (gallifreyan1218) I'll have to do an update by this evening, so everyone please make sure your tracking posts are up to date and that the pages tracked match the running total, etc.

Thanks!!!

I know, I have been adding books as I read them and then finishing the day by updating the running total but I have now added the pages from today at the top.

I am a bit depressed today ( as depressed as I can get and that is not very lol). I often do these short updates via my ipad but wanted to go on my computer today. Not good. It started up as back with factory settings - I can't find anything, all my dokuments and pictures are completely gone. I am not very happy about that.

OH NO! That's TERRIBLE! And you didn't even get a chance to backup or anything! :(

That's one bad thing about our technologically dependent world... too many glitches, and everything can get lost so easily! :(

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) Steven - wasn't sure what you were needing exactly so I sorta guessed....is there something else you were needing?

Oh no, that stinks :\

Nope, you added the daily totals so I can double-check the running total... you're good now :)

Thanks!!!

Jane | 206 comments Just yesterday my husbands computer was acting up and I said he needed to back up both computers soon (he usually does it) but really didn't know my computer was the one to "die".

On the positive side is that it isn't actually dead so I shouln't need a new one

message 23: by Jane (new)

Jane | 206 comments Well my husband came home and had a look. Everything is still here but hidden and of course all my short cuts and favourites are gone.

But I am happy as I have all my documents and pictures. A major back up of everything will happen tonight.

message 24: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) Oh thank goodness! Shortcuts and such can be a huge hassle to recreate, but thankfully all your actual stuff is there!!!

message 25: by Barb (new)

Barb What Steven said! After being in a similar situation one time too many, Jane, I finally bit the bullet and subscribed to Carbonite. I'm glad I did, too, when my hard drive malfunctioned and I lost everything -- but was able to get it all back, thanks to Carbonite :)

I just fixed it. I put what I had left to reach my total. I will update today's later, after I am done reading for the night.

Didn't even think to check it that way, Karla! Sorry! Thanks for switching your methods for me! :D

message 28: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) Ladies, we are doing awesome! Keep up the reading and updating! :)

I actually didn't mean to do it that way, I was just figuring it out for myself and put the wrong number.

Steven (gallifreyan1218) Ladies, I'll be making an update this evening, probably between 6pm and 9pm in my time (Eastern Daylight Savings Time), so if you can, make sure to update your posts!

If you can't that's fine, we'll catch the page updates after that :)

message 31: by Jane (new)

Jane | 206 comments Nearly midnight and time for bed. I have read 444 pages today. I am reading The Witching Hour by Anne Rice and according to post 857 on pagenumbers it should be considered a triple treat when I am done.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 240 comments Jane, I LOVE that book. It's Anne Rice at her best. Sadly I haven't enjoyed her later writing. Hope you enjoy it, it's quite a ride!

Just managed to check in to update. Hope I managed to get it in on time.

Man, I'm finding it really hard to keep a track of actual page numbers as I read at night in bed and then first thing in the morning before I have a pen and paper to note down what I've gotten up to in between. Looking forward to when it's a comp about just books read ;)

message 34: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) You did. I am going to do the update when I get to work in the morning... I find it so much easier to update anything on dual screens haha

message 35: by Barb (new)

Barb Sometimes I forget to write that down too, so I just wait and count the book when I finish it. Not quite what was intended, but as long as I get all my pages "turned in" before the deadline, I'm not going to stress over how many pages I read on what day.

I also like it and it is a reread for me. I read it 6-7 years ago and I only reread books I really like.

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) updated post #15

message 38: by Karla (new)

Karla According to the Mod's spreadsheet, we are in second place on pages.

message 39: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) Oh wow! Well done guys. I hardly feel like I've helped. This challenge has made me realise I read as much as 150 only on a good day ;)

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 240 comments Every bit helps, Nicole.

message 41: by Diane L (last edited Oct 10, 2013 09:52PM) (new)

Diane L Nicole, 150 pages each day is not a small amount. When I had young children at home I usually only got about 30 pages each night before turning out the light. Now that they are grown and I am not working I have time to catch up on all of those books I missed during their growing-up years.

The mods put together our teams so each team has a balance of members. Some members read like banshees most of the time, some read during transit to and from work and at lunch and some members whose lives allow much less reading time but who love reading challenges. That is one of the really good things about the Tower Teams challenges. No matter the annual books goal, everyone contributes.

message 42: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) Thanks guys, you're wonderful :)

Evana, yes, I had noticed that the tower teams had been put together really well to represent this very thing!

message 43: by Jane (new)

Jane | 206 comments I just finished The Lost Hero (Heroes of Olympus, #1) by Rick Riordan by Rick Riordan 557 pages. As I am taking part in Dewey's RaT, I am going to continue reading but the next book is not long enough for here but I hope to read at least another 500 pages that can be counted here.

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) I updated post #15 with 1,944 pages read thus far....

message 45: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) Jane, I'm reading book four in that right now. I am amazed at how Rick Riordan was able to up his game from the Percy Jackson series to this Heroes of Olympus. I really love these books, and this House of Hades is soooo good!

Yay Sallie! Awesome reading!

message 46: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) I'll be doing an update sometime tomorrow (it's 11:30pm here now), so everyone please make sure everything is up to date if you can.

Thanks!

We are rocking this guys, I am so proud of our team!

message 47: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) Hoping to be in front of my computer again before that, but it depends on what time tomorrow you update as I need to sleep between now and then ;)

message 48: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) I'll be up in about 10 hours, so it won't be before then. And probably not first thing either :)

I just posted my update a bit ago :) Maybe I should read while watching my team play football more often -- what a game!!! But now, I need to go rest my eyes ... and the rest of me too LOL

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 240 comments Steven, just check my posting thread. I took off the suspect Friday 4th reads and I'll be able to read up till 1 am on Sunday, 20th...

Thanks Captain Fantastic!
