I find I enjoy the books and the movies much more if i watch the movie first, then read the book. I get to enjoy the movie, since I have no idea how crappy it is in relation to the book, and then get to experience the proper version with all the good bits left in. It's like a Super Directer's Cut.
I utterly failed at this challenge.I managed to finish The Silver Linings playbook though. ... haha.

I just recently finished Life of Pi on audio though, and it was the first thing we watched on the tv at our new house. The book was quite good. The movie was visually arresting, but lacked a lot of the subtle philosophy of the book.

8/31 2starsJust finished Beastly. I loved it! I liked the movie too. Of course the movie was different but not that far off. The descriptions of the characters in the book did not match the characters in the movie. No biggie. X-men held true to the movie but with a little more background on characters. I love it! Game of thrones was extremely painful to finish. It was not for me.
Leigh- go for game of thrones if you want. :)Angie- I guess if you are having a hard time picking. I was going for things already made, for the comparison aspect.

I'd add City of Bones but I'm a bit reluctant to shell out the $11.00 or whatever that it will cost to see it as a first run movie (The movie is in theaters 08/21/13.)
PS: Good luck to anyone choosing the The Brothers Karamazov. :) It is about 8 million pages long, and about 2 million of those pages are mind-bendingly confusing Russian names.
I'll try it out this month. I figure I can get at least 2 or 3 books-to-movies in.

I would like to try this as my first challenge for this group. It looks like its going to be a lot of fun. I have a question on one of the books before I make my list. Would this count as one ?The Demonologist: The Extraordinary Career of Ed and Lorraine Warren Its the book behind the movie The Conjuring but its not a media tie in type.

Why was it being boycotted?
Another book to movie coming out very soon is Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan (Percy Jackson #2)! (August 7)! Also. Struck By Lightning was made into a movie. Catching Fire comes out November 22 if anyone is interested in that one, but while you're waiting you could read Hunger Games. The Great Gatsby remake came out this year too. The Wolverine currently in theatres. Also, the Perks of Being a Wallflower came out last year, the book and movie were incredible and highly recommended!

Perhaps you should add a fourth category above Hard? Something like, oh, I dunno, Epic. For impossibly long, impossibly involved novels that have been turned into movies. Anybody willing to do a bunch of those in a month would have my respect. And possibly condolences. You could do:

Pity the movie version of Foucault's Pendulum was never finished, that would fit in nicely as well... the book was certainly mind-bending

Good heavens. I did not know that. That is kinda funny, and kinda wrong, somehow. If I rented that flick all I'd be thinking about is Star Trek. And Priceline commercials.

Clan of the Cave Bear is one of the WORST novel to movie experiences I have ever had, I think.

The book is pretty amazing. They spend a lot more time discussing the nature of animals, of religion and of humans.
The movie has the right skeleton, but the insides aren't very meaty.
And I feel very wrong for using that as a descriptor.
