I'm trying to decide what to read next.Anyone read The Kinshield Saga: The Complete Series ? Your thoughts ?
I'm enjoying The Hex Breaker's Eyes. I'm not a fan of stories told in the present tense, but this is still pretty good. Aside from a few tense inconsistencies near the beginning, the writing/editing has been good, and I've been in the mood for fun Y/A stuff, lately. Before this I read A Fairy's Guide to Disaster, also Y/A, and I really liked it too. Light and creative. Lately I just haven't been in the mood for anything heavy.

I just finished Mistborn: The Final Empire and am now a card-carrying Brandon Sanderson fan! What a great start to his Mistborn trilogy - 4.5★s.Here is my review:

Today I finished The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson. It is the second book in the Mistborn trilogy and a very strong fulcrum for the series, I think. I thoroughly enjoyed it - 4★s.Here is my review:

Finished The Crimson Campaign and into The Accidental Sorcerer (which I have from the library so it went to the front of the line) and "chomping" at the proverbial bit to get to Tower Lord which I've already listed as currently reading.

Done with Outlander series. I started to read The Kinshield Legacy (and I finished it) but I was disappointed with the author's style which could never catch my full attention. I won't read the rest of this series.So, now, all my attention is focussed on Finnikin of the Rock. I only hope it's as good as it's supposed to be. I haven't yet bought books 2 and 3 (just in case). But I will if the 1st book fulfills its promises...after all, it only takes 30 seconds to get them inside my Kindle ;)

I just finished The Hero of Ages, the final book of the Mistborn trilogy by Brandon Sanderson. I found it a very thought-provoking book in ways that I did not expect - 4★s.My review is here:

Okay...I've been putting off reading The Strain for years. I just watched the first program of the new TV series.I will have to get the book(s) now.

Miles Cameron ' The Fell sword ' it was excellent and probably nay definitely better than ' The Red Knight ' which was a nice surprise . If he can continue the upward trajectory I think he will elbow his way onto the big boys table
Oh yeah and I also read Joe Abercrombie's new book in about a day and a half which annoyed me a bit ( same price / big type / less words ) I'm not sure if it was meant to be YA or what but it was a bit tamer than his previous books

I don't think I will finish Black Sun Rising. I started it yesterday and after 1-1/2 hours of listening, I was wondering what was going on. I'm not sure if the transitioning was off, or whether I was off. But I'm going to put it aside for now. I have too many books to read to spend time on something I have to struggle with. Maybe another day I can give it a try.I'll start Grave Mercy which I picked up for free from SYNC last summer.
A fun discovery: Something Strange and Deadly is just enough steampunk, just enough zombies, and just plain fun.
I love all 3 of these books. I seen others who like this one best. Matter of taste I suppose. I wonder if maybe those who've been in the military might like the first better as the training and so on rings true. Of course I don't know you, LOL. A few of my other friends (as I said) do like this one better than the first...
That said, have the third ready. The way this one ends you'll want to jump right into Oath of Gold.

I've read the trilogy and the three novels after and I loved them all. Dark, gritty and I love the humour.
The third is ready. It's nice to read a book that isn't a group read etc. Enjoying it more :)

I won't spoil anything but it's the scene after the fencing contest. I laughed out loud at the description of the king.
I've just started Before They Are Hanged and it looks as good. I particularly like Glokta and for the life of me I cannot understand how one can ever like a torturer. But here I am.
Three novels after, you say ? I must check this out.
If you like these (as noted these are among the ones at the top of my favorites list) you might like....well the title gives a spoiler but "the series by Elizabeth Moon" which follows the trilogy. Paks is more a background character in them. It follows events and characters that continue after the trilogy.
I've read The Heroes and just finished Best Served Cold - everyone and their brother will talk about how grim Abercrombie's writing is. Some good food for thought can be found in all of his books, but the stand-alone novels set in his world are phenomenal studies of character and human behavior.On another note, revisiting some high fantasy with Pehov's Chronicles of Siala. Epic, urban and a lot of low fantasy has been so popular lately (I'm not complaining!) it's refreshing to switch things up!

I've recently read Mr. Mercedes and Ex-Heroes. I was hoping Ex-Heroes would have been better.Now I'm reading The Bottoms. I've been looking forward to this one.
Agree on the Ex-Heroes.
I felt the same way about Ex-Heroes. I've had Ex-Patriots on my shelf ever since and have never gone back to it.
Reading The Evermen Saga at the moment. I'm halfway through book 3 The Path of the StormUnfortunately book 4 (and last) of this series will be published on Aug.26 *sigh* I hate it when I have to wait for a book. If only I had realized sooner, I would have waited for The Lore of the Evermen to be published before I started this read.
Just finished Tana French's The Secret Place and enjoyed it a great deal. Next I'll be heading on to The Accidental Alchemist.
Done with The Evermen saga. It was not a bad read. I mean, it was not excellent but good enough to keep me captivated (well, not really captivated. Just...ah, interested ?...well, you get the idea) till the end.While I was waiting for the Lore of the Evermen to be published, I read As the Crow Flies. Very enjoyable. If one wants a fast read, well written and with plenty of humour (yes there's magic too), give this book a try.
Now, I have just started Homeland. It high time I knew what that Drizzt people keep talking about is made of.
Edit : I forgot to say that I had decided to read the "Legend of Drizzt" in chronological order and not publication one (hence "Homeland" to start with)
I recently read Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson and was completely and utterly captivated! It's not often the second book in a series is better than the first. This one gets a rare 5★s from me.Here is my review:

Just finished The Broken Eye. Crazy good. Now I need another book to fill the void it left behind.
So, after 4 books in the world of Drizzt Do'Urden, I have decided to stop this series at the beginning of book 5 Streams of Silver. Not that it is bad or something. Actually the books are quite good. My problem is that they follow the same pattern and I found that I was not eager to pick my Kindle up anymore. A sign.I always listen to signs ;)
I'll probably (re) pick this series up some day.
Anyway. I have just started The Sword of Shannara (which is actualy my 2nd try). I hope that I will be more convinced this time. I remember getting so bored the first time but friends keep telling me that it is sooo veeeeery good. So, I'm willing to give it another try.
Hi Ferial. There are so many fantasy series, it's difficult to know which to choose isn't it? I think Tad Williams writes well, which as regards the use of English, can't be said of a lot of writers. May I draw your attention to 'Hy Brazil' my own first volume of 'The Elven Wars' trilogy. I was an English teacher for many years so I have tried to write something with literary merit. It's also historical and has Elves. Best wishes. Gerald Killingworth.
I started Prince of Thorns yesterday on audiobook. I think I shall switch to print format because the audio format isn't doing it for me.
Hi I've had a haitus from reading after a came back from my hols. But got back into it in October when I started back at work. (How does that work? More time to read when your working) Anyway Finished Prince of Fools which was better than I expected and now I've started reading Half a King which is ok. I started it on wednsday night and I'm already halfway through.. I suppose after reading his other stuff this one feels quite light.

Will do. I don't think there's a problem. I've been very busy lately, getting ready to move, etc. But I don't think this one is brilliant like the last three. Still, it seems to be a good, fun, well-written read.
