message 305: by Férial (new)

Férial | 48 comments Just finished the Emaneska series which starts with The Written

Currently reading Words of Radiance . Ah, I cannot tell you how much I am enjoying this read. Sanderson is a genius.

message 306: by Orhan (new)

Orhan Capas | 5 comments I finished Words of Radiance more than a week ago. It was brilliant.
At the moment I am reading The Lies of Locke Lamora with a much slower pace

message 307: by Em Lost In Books (new)

Em Lost In Books (emlostinbooks) I'm currently reading Last Argument of Kings and Gardens of the Moon.

Férial | 48 comments Just finished Words of Radiance. What can I say ? WOW !!! (I think that will convey my feelings).

Gonna start Elantris now. Been in my Kindle for ages. I don't know how I could forget to read this one.

message 310: by Orhan (new)

Orhan Capas | 5 comments Elantris is first published book of Sanderson. It is pretty good but do not expect Stormlight awesomeness

message 311: by Férial (new)

Férial | 48 comments I know I'll love it anyway, the way I have loved all his other works (Mistborn, Warbreaker...) but thanks for the warning :)

By the way, to those who have not yet read Warbreaker, Sanderson offers a free download of this book on his website (and he explains why he'd do that).

message 312: by Jalilah (new)

Jalilah I just finished The Brides of Rollrock Island I don't know why it is categorized as YA because it's not at all!

message 313: by Férial (last edited Jun 01, 2014 10:59AM) (new)

Férial | 48 comments After Elantris, I read The Rithmatist (YA fantasy and with a new very interesting magic system)

I carried on with M.Lackey's Owlmage trilogy : Owlsight , Owlflight and Owlknight

I'm now deep into McCaffrey's Pern. I had a difficult time deciding if I had to read this (long) series chronologically or in order of publication but after reading the 1st two books (1st & 2nd in both orders) I made up my own order :

Dragonflight
Dragonquest
The White Dragon
All the Weyrs of Pern
The Skies of Pern (currently reading it)

I'll follow with one of the prequels (1st in chronological order / 9th in pub.) : Dragonsdawn. I think I'll have a break with Pern after that and start something else (not sure what yet)

message 314: by carol. , Senor Crabbypants (new)

carol. | 2616 comments Ferial, sounds like a fun project. It's been quite awhile since I read the Pern books.

message 315: by Michelle (new)

message 316: by Ken (new)

Ken Hughes (kenhughes) | 15 comments Pern is always a pleasure. And no question at all that you have to start with those first two. (I had a friend who only read Dragonsinger and didn't understand what the fuss was about.)

I just finished a batch of David Weber's *Safehold* books. Great fun, watching a jump-started industrial revolution try to take on an Inquisition.

message 317: by Ruaridh (new)

Ruaridh McNee | 41 comments I've just finished reading Joe Abercrombie's Red Country. I enjoyed it but I felt it lacked the same dark humour his other books had. I've just started The Sword of Lictor Book #3 of The Book of the New Sun. I really can't wait to read Words of Radiance, but with so many books to read and so few hours in a day I'm not sure what to read next

Book of the New Sun is the best thing ever.

I just finished The Silent Land. Meh. Wondering what to start next.

I've decided to put down Sword and Citadel for now as I realised I'm not in the right mood for it. So I've started Words of Radiance instead. I've been waiting so long for this book and I'm not yet disappointed.

message 320: by Taha (new)

Taha Shabbir | 1 comments I finished The Way of Kings a few days ago and started Words of Radiance right after. I'm currently half way through it. Hoping to start Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell next and finish in time for the release of Skin Game by Jim Butcher. It's been too long since the last Dresden Files book was released.

message 321: by Sally (new)

Sally Howes | 15 comments I just finished A Memory of Light, the final book in a series I've been reading for YEARS. There aren't enough superlatives to describe how much I loved this book - I get teary just thinking about it! 5★ for sure - it deserves many more than just five. I feel quite bereft now that I have no more Wheel of Time books to read, but so very glad and privileged to have read them.

message 325: by Konnie (new)

Konnie (Kontexts) | 32 comments I just started "Dead Man's Hand" and am really enjoying it. Podcastle featured one of the stories. Is anyone else reading this one?

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 5387 comments Which one, there are a lot of books titled Dead Man's Hand?

message 327: by Férial (new)

Férial | 48 comments I'm finished with Pern (for now).

After Dragonsdawn, I decided that I wanted to read The Masterharper of Pern as it tells the story of a major character...which led me to re-read Dragonflight (which actually starts where The Masterhaper ends). Pern was a good read. I'm glad I picked this series up.

I am now reading The Outlander Series: Outlander / Dragonfly in Amber / Voyager / Drums of Autumn / The Fiery Cross / A Breath of Snow and Ashes / An Echo in the Bone (I know, I know...). Just started book 5.

What to say ? It's definitely not what I'm used to read but a bit of novelty in one's life won't kill.

Or will it ?

Anyway. I confess, I'm enjoying the read :)

message 328: by Konnie (new)

Konnie (Kontexts) | 32 comments Mike, it's the "Anthology of the Weird West" just recently released.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 5387 comments Thanks, I wanted to look into it.

message 330: by Konnie (new)

Konnie (Kontexts) | 32 comments It's an interesting mix. I enjoy the genre and these are great examples so far.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 5387 comments I'll have to buy it (library doesn't have it). I put it on my wish list at Audible. Thanks.

I have thought for a long time the "old west" would be a good setting for a supernatural series of books, but so far haven't found one.

message 332: by Konnie (new)

Konnie (Kontexts) | 32 comments I got thee book version

I could never really get into this series. I like the other one better.

I don't know if you're referring to The Belgariad: Volume One,The Belgariad, volume 2: Castle of Wizardry, Enchanters' End Gameor The Malloreon, Vol. 1: Guardians of the West, King of the Murgos, Demon Lord of Karanda,The Malloreon, Vol. 2: Sorceress of Darshiva, The Seeress of Kell.Which were both two excellent series, but like I said I've only read one book of this series so far and and a little of the second. So far in my opinion,it looks like it will be ranked pretty high.

message 345: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Michael | 572 comments Just finished One Salt Sea (October Daye, #5) by Seanan McGuire the 5th book in the October Daye series. I'd read the first book in the series, liked it but never continued with the series for some reason. Library had them, so read them all finally. Good, but a little too depressing and dark for me to read in a group like this I think. Well written, good characterizations, but not enough touches of humor or 'lighter moments' to balance the darkness for me. I may try the next when it comes out, but they aren't something I will re-read.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 5387 comments Haven't been reading much the last few days (listening to OLD music). Into I Am Pilgrim: A Thriller pretty far, it's a library book so i have to take it back.

Shadowmarch is excellent, and I would suggest Tad Williams Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn if you haven't already read it.

Damon Caraway (damoncaraway) | 14 comments I'm reading Consider Phlebas by Iain M. Banks. He lives up to his reputation in the SF arena.
