I'm being book indecisive and am working on The Goldfinch and Birdology: Adventures with a Pack of Hens, a Peck of Pigeons, Cantankerous Crows, Fierce Falcons, Hip Hop Parrots, Baby Hummingbirds, and One Murderously Big Living Dinosaur, because that's what the library sent. But I've got a couple ARCs on the back burner that I'd really prefer to get to.

I've been rather...meah about a lot of books lately. But I'm really enjoying Slathbog's Gold. This is a youth book aimed at maybe 12 or 13 year olds...and I'm loving it.

Maybe I've entered my second childhood???? I don't know, but I am too old to worry that I'm enjoying a young person's book.

The Birdology book looks interesting! I've always found birds fascinating and long known that it's not true that they are "bird brained"! We recently adopted a cockatiel.

I've always wanted to read [author:Patricia A. McKillip and started In The Forests of Serre, but could not get into it at all. I then read Something Rich and Strange and really liked it!

I'm now reading The Facts of Life and liking, but not loving it.

I am reading Legon Awakening and I cannot for the life of me understand why I like it. It's full of typos, grammar mistakes, missing words, sentences that one has to read 3 times before one gets the meaning (and sometimes don't get it at all). It's also full of annoying 20th century teen's expressions ("dang it" "blow me" and such)...

Puzzled.

I'm almost halfway through Kushiel's Dart but had to set it aside for a week long read-a-thon in another group. I'm currently reading Across the Nightingale Floor and have a couple hours left on the audiobook.

I'm also reading Dangerous Liaisons which is a different kind of fantasy.

Do people normally only speak of the fantasy books they are reading in this thread?

I just finished Magic Bites, and finally understand why everyone is always raving about Kate Daniels. So so good! Next up is Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson. My fiancé has been bugging me to read it for awhile now. I'm only about 20 pages in but it's promising so far!

Just finished Fool's Assassin , it was beyond anything I anticipated. Only for those of you who craved a reunion with Fitz, only you would understand this. As for now I'm going to read , such a cool cover, waiting for The Slow Regard of Silent Things to come, it's in the mail!!

After the legon trilogy, I read The Riddle in Stone one (which starts with Riddle in Stone ). A good series. A fast and enjoyable read.

Haha well I can understand, cliffhanger moment from Hobb I can assure you, now I can't wait till Aug 2015. Yup, that's when the 2nd is coming out! Until Patrick Rothfuss's book arrives, I decided to read The Earthsea Quartet, and I'm literally halfway done, didn't expect to go through it so quickly it's a nice surprise.

I finally finished Kushiel's Dart. That was one long book. I don't think I'll continue the series.

I started Tiger's Curse which is YA fantasy. I'm quite enjoying it. It's a nice light read after heaviness of Kushiel's Dart.

I'm also reading Midwinter of the Spirit which is a great horror/mystery mix.

Carol, It's a spin-off from the Red Dwarf TV show. The first two seasons were amazing, but I felt it went down hill after that.

Red Dwarf Omnibus (Red Dwarf: Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers & Better Than Life) does have its Hitchhiker moments... give it a whirl if you enjoyed Douglas Adams.

I finished The Drawing of the Three and can hardly wait to continue the series. There are a few recommended reading order for the series that include other books written by Stephen King. I think The Stand is recommended next, but I read that a few years ago, so will give it a pass.

While I debate about The Dark Tower series, I'm going to read another Stephen King, Revival.

I'm also reading Zoo City. It's quite different from anything I've read before.

I recently read The Slow Regard of Silent Things, the new novella by one of my favourite authors, Patrick Rothfuss. I expected to love it, but I never expected to be quite so deeply moved by it as I was. This is a book for all the broken people - 5★s.

After The Tales of the Lifesong (books 1 & 2), I decided to have a look at the world of Deverry with Daggerspell. I'm nearly done with this one and will sure carry on with this series. Very interesting how the concept of reincarnation was dealt with.

I'm fond of Daggerspell. It's one of my favorite epic fantasies and I think it improves every book (excepting perhaps until the last two trilogies). I'll be interested in hearing your thoughts, Ferial.

Yes, I understand why you'd be fond of it. I am too :)

There's one thing that bothers me though. The summary of the book says : "Four hundred years-and many lifetimes-ago, one selfish young lord caused the death of two innocent lovers. Then and there he vowed never to rest until he'd rightened that wrong..."

I don't want to spoil but the "selfish young lord" was the lover, wasn't he ? (at least he was the one whose love was reciprocated as opposed to the one who died). What selfish action are they talking about ? The dweomer was at work here. He couldn't go against it. The deaths were not his doing. He was just a pebble among other pebbles. Why should he be the one to "pay" ?

Anyway. Except for the fact that I was a bit dizzy with the different names in the various souls' lives (one has to keep track and sometimes I would just lose the thread), I love this idea of a soul's many lives in order for the said soul to "improve" (the question that arises is what does become of the soul when it has achieved "perfectness" ? Does it just stay for good in the Light with no more reincarnation ?).

I'm nearly done with Daggerspell and I wonder how Gerraert's current reincarnation will react to what is obviously taking place between...well, you know who lol (it's hard to keep from spoiling).

Heh. To be honest, I think I lost the parallel threads a time or two when I read, but it continues to make more sense as I re-read. I'm sure my experience of it is like what people say about Mazatlan, and how it comes together a book or two down the line, or on re-read. The first time through, I didn't like the past storyline as well because it was so tragic.

You raise a good point about the 'selfish young lord' and the dweomer. I feel like it was because (view spoiler)[ he made a choice to pursue his love in secret instead of being honest and bold with his parents (hide spoiler)] but to be honest, it's been a few years since I read it. Truly, no different than most young people. but because it inadvertently resulted (view spoiler)[ in his love dying, it caused negative reprocussions that he had to pay for, both for causing a death and not acting honorably, as well as facilitating the death of a potent dweomer force in the world. (hide spoiler)]

I certainly think Garrert will have some lessons to learn...

I started Darkspell of the Deverry series and I am currently in (a very long) chapter 2, into the past (in 773).

To keep things clear (what with all these reincarnations and all), I have made a sort of list (listing the year, the different characters and their respective reincarnations)...yes I know, I know... ;)

On a side note, I love the curse they use such as "By the black hairy ass of the dark lord" lol This one just killed me when I read it for the 1st time.

Just a hint--there is a list of characters/reincarnations in the back of the books. I don't know if it was in the first, but it definitely helped me.

Yup. Thanks. The list exists at the end of the 1st book. But it only lists the characters and their reincarnations of the said book. I wanted to have a complete picture of the whole series. And I agree, it is very helpful.

Alright. So, I am sad to say that I stopped the read of the Deverry series at Darkspell. Why would I do that ? I honestly don't know. I just didn't want to carry on. Daggerspell was good. I kept reading it nearly non stop (When I had a bit of free time that is). But halfway through Darkspell, I lost interest. Ah, well.

After that, I started (and finished) The Crown Tower and am now reading The Rose and the Thorn

I must say that I am a fan of Michael J Sullivan's books, of his world and of his characters. I had already read the Riyria Revelations series (Theft of Swords, Rise of Empire and Heir of Novron) and loved the read. So I decided it was time to read The Riyria Chronicles (prequel to The Revelations as it tells the story of Royce Melborn and Hadrian Blackwater from the beginning; that is, from their first meeting and how they got to be partners).

My advice : if you have not read anything about the Riyria (means "two" in elvish), I strongly suggest that you start the read in order of publication (Revelations and then Chronicles).

Just cracked open Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie after finishing The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms by N.K. Jemisin.... Now, that's a shift in writing style for your brain to wrestle with.

Also put in some due diligence, finally read Imager by L.E. Modesitt Jr. His stuff is always so thoughtful and chock-full of philosophy surrounding the ethics of morality...
