message 606: by Férial (new)

Férial | 48 comments I have just finished the 9th book of the excellent Saxon series Warriors of the Storm (series which starts with The Last Kingdom ).

It's been a while since I last read historical fiction. Mr Cornwell has reminded me how much I love the genre.

Just started Conqueror Series Collection: Wolf of the Plains, Lords of the Bow, Bones of the Hills. I hope it'll be as good as Cornwell's books.

Oh my goodness, I completely agree with your choices. I enjoy The Others a great deal, and Kate Daniels is one of my favorite series.

Sumant Here is my review of The Farthest Shore really loved it!.

message 614: by Marion (new)

Marion Hill (kammbia1) I'm currently reading Children of Earth and Sky by Guy Gavriel Kay. It is my 1st Kay novel and after 120 pages it's quite enjoyable. It seems to be his take on the Italian Renaissance. Pretty good so far.

message 615: by carol. , Senor Crabbypants (new)

carol. | 2616 comments I enjoy Kay a great deal. He seems to have mostly gone off the fantasy wagon, however. Is there much mystical/fantasy in it?

message 616: by Férial (last edited Jun 16, 2016 12:03AM) (new)

Férial | 48 comments Talking about kay, I'm reading Tigana my third book by him after A Song for Arbonne and The Lions of Al-Rassan

I also enjoy Kay a great deal even if his stories are emotionally draining.

message 618: by carol. , Senor Crabbypants (new)

carol. | 2616 comments Welcome back, Scott. Quite a mix of genres :)

message 619: by Sumant (new)

message 620: by Donna (new)

Donna | 11 comments I cannot settle on a book to read. I started Trudi Canavan's Angel of Stroms but I am not enjoying it as much as I have her past books. Any thoughts on how to push through?

message 621: by carol. , Senor Crabbypants (new)

carol. | 2616 comments I rarely end up happy with a book that I pushed through. Once or twice, though, I've set it aside to tackle later. At least, if I don't still have a grudge :)

message 622: by Donna (new)

Donna | 11 comments Thanks Carol, I'll give that a try.

message 623: by carol. , Senor Crabbypants (new)

carol. | 2616 comments It's hard! I try to pick my books by mood, so I always have a big stack of library books waiting for when I'm excited to read them (I'm usually excited when I request them, but it takes awhile).

message 624: by Donna (new)

Donna | 11 comments I have a few real and kindle books on my "to read" list. I am waiting for Brandon Sanderson and Brent Weeks new books to come out.

message 625: by Scott (new)

Scott | 165 comments I finished End of Watch last weekend. Now I'm reading The Library at Mount Char.

message 626: by John (new)

John Compton | 2 comments Should finish The Republic of Thieves in a couple of weeks (group read (my first one)). About 20% through the audio book of Dan Brown's Inferno. Will try to start back on Gardens of the Moon soon (3rd time starting it, taking notes this time - story is great, but my old brain is having trouble keeping up with who is who and who are allies).

message 627: by carol. , Senor Crabbypants (new)

carol. | 2616 comments Ha! John, taking notes sounds like a lot of work to understand the cast.

message 628: by Tara (new)

Tara (tarabookreads) | 320 comments I've heard so much of Robin Hobb I decided to finally start reading Assassin's Apprentice
I'm also almost done with with a book from a totally different genre: Elon Musk: Inventing the Future

message 629: by carol. , Senor Crabbypants (new)

carol. | 2616 comments I've heard great things about that series, Tara. I'm out of the genre at the moment too, reading a book about the Tarot.

It's really a good series have enjoyed the first two books, not so much the third book.

I've heard so many good reviews about this series so I'm starting it with high expectations.. so hopefully it will live up to it.. let's see :)

Sumant Here is my review of Changes

message 633: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (icanhasbooks) | 11 comments Elantris (Elantris, #1) by Brandon Sanderson I'm finally reading my first Brandson Sanderson novel, he is an author I've wanted to read for a while now and like many books/authors I own I've been holding out on reading them. My brain does this whole lets save the best for last kind of thing, but alas why wait, why waste my time reading less then stellar books.

message 634: by carol. , Senor Crabbypants (new)

carol. | 2616 comments I do that too, Carrie. Like I'm going to run out of great books or something.

message 635: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (icanhasbooks) | 11 comments It's nice to know I'm not the only one with this quirk, Carol.

message 637: by carol. , Senor Crabbypants (new)

carol. | 2616 comments Hm, I've heard such mixed reactions on The Library at Mount Char.

I'm going to read The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet this weekend, either in a flash group read or at the group Beyond Reality. Possibly both. I'll link here if I flash group it.

message 638: by Scott (new)

Scott | 165 comments I recently finished The Tommyknockers, To Build a Fire, and Twittering from the Circus of the Dead.

I'm trying to figure out what to read next.

message 639: by Sumant (new)

Sumant Here is my review for Lord of Chaos

message 640: by Donna (new)

Donna Royston | 64 comments I'm reading two different books. I first ran into This Census-Taker by China Mieville at the library and was curious enough to check it out. After several reading sessions, it continues to put me to sleep, so I'm not making great progress.

But there's another reason...a week later I was in the library again and saw A Borrowed Man by Gene Wolfe, and the description sounded intriguing, so I checked it out. It's good! And weird.

So I don't think the Mieville book will be picked up again until I'm finished with Gene Wolfe.
