What are you reading? (Reboot 2.0)
I finally started The Emperor's Blades after having it on my "to be read" list for "I don't know how long".It's fantastic...I've burned through 2/3 of it and barring some weird happenstance I'm sold and will probably go right out and get the next when i finish this one.

As for what I am reading at the moment, I just started Stray and so far, it is very good.
EDIT : I forgot to say that this book (Stray) cost me 0 (at Amazon France. Must be the same for all the Amazons worldwide). Worth a try.

I believe it is. I've read plenty of his books and quite pretty scary ones but this one was just too much for me.
I'm reading Aliette de Bodard's Servant of the Underworld. It's not something I would normally have looked at but I loved her novella, On a Red Station, Drifting, and thought I'd delve into some more of her work. I'm glad I did because I am really enjoying it.

I completely agree. I went through a King phase in my teens and this book creeped me out beyond belief (I think I kept the lights on all night). The movie, on the other hand--I laughed most of the way through it. Soooo bad.

Excellent world building. I still have to read the last in that series.

It's a short but fascinating look at discrimination disguised as an SF story.
Just finished
which I had high hopes for after reading the sample. For the most part an excellent read, unfortunately a disappointment for me because of the grim and depressing ending, which I definitely did not anticipate. I read for entertainment and do not find dark/grim entertaining.
Funny reading this thread as so many titles resonated with me. The Martian is in my room on loan from the library - I recently joined. I bought Bitter Greens with a book token received from a pupil, excellent gift. And finally, I recently read Servant of the Underworld, for me Mexico for a round the world challenge.
Don't think I've posted in awhile, sooooo...Picked up ol' Game of Thrones series last year and nearly done with the last book. Then like everyone else, I get to await FOR-EVER for the next one. :(

"You know, I'm still wondering if I have ever loved a book the way I have loved this one (and its sequel).
I'm going to start reading Dreaming the Eagle this evening. I've had this book gathering dust for over 3 years. I don't remember buying it. I was weeding out my books when I moved here and came across that one. It made the cut.

"Still my favorite series. Very good choice
Read The Martian today, it is amazing. I don't normally read sci-fi. This was funny, gripping and the tech stuff wasn't boring. I have no idea whether it would hold up mathematically etc!

I was a bit worried about the technical parts because I'd heard comments about it, but I didn't think it bogged it down at all.
No, I didn't feel like I was being bogged down in it. I've resisted starting another book as I need to start planning for the coming half term. To that end, I've watched tv all day, I'm bored!
Parts of it were entertaining. I really need to do the medium term plan that shows everything I teach over the next six weeks. Plan the RE, Maths and literacy. I just really don't like doing work on my week off!
I was laughing out loud at some of the comments that were made. I finished All the Light We Cannot See and started The Son.
Finished Foxglove Summer Notexactly a disappointment but not my favorite of the series.
Currently on the last novella of the
collection. Just plain fun.
I finished Pet Sematary. I loved the ending. Now I'm reading Seven Deadly Wonders. This is the first book I've read from him. I've heard good things.
Yesterday I started (and finished) Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo. Somehow I thought it would be deeper than it turned out to be. Hopefully the series will get better, or I may quit.
Well I finished The Complete Lyonesse, 1000 pages of totally satisfying mythic/legendary fiction. My ReviewI stated another older epic fantasy omnibus Legends of the Drenai by David Gemmell. It in includes books 1, 2 and 4 of his The Drenai Saga, a series of 11 books. I may have read the in the early 90's.

I really enjoyed the Drenai saga.
Reading The Emperor's Edge series at the moment. The series starts with The Emperor's Edge. Just started the 6th book Forged in Blood I and I still don't have enough of the characters.
Don't expect much of world building but if you're in for a funny, witty and non-stop action ride with very engaging characters, give it a try (it is truly worth it. Well, in my opinion). I believe the Kindle version of the 1st book is still for free.
I finished Seven Deadly Wonders. Then I tried to start two different books but I just couldn't get into them. So I read the short story from King: A Face in the Crowd. Now I'm reading The Name of the Wind.
I finished Legends of the Drenai and The Hadrian Enigma. Anyone interested in Hadrian and Antinous should read the latter. It is presented as a mystery. I also read The Magic of Recluce for another group read. It's book one of an epic fantasy which I enjoyed a lot. But, it's a 14 book series and I have such big piles of unread books...
I just started a re-read of E.E. Doc Smith's Lensmen series, a top Classic SF series from the '40s and '50s, spanning eons.
Ambitious, Kernos, to start a fourteen book series... hopefully, they are all written ;) unlike George R.R. Martin. I'm still stuck in the middle of Station Eleven. I liked what I've read a great deal, but I just haven't been able to find a block of time where I can read and not be interrupted (or fall asleep!).
The Magic of Recluse series is interesting, definitely not like a lot of fantasy out there, at least as to how Modesitt lays it out. Not spoiling, it's definitely unique, but very much a Modesitt series of books. I liked them. Finally, finally picking up The Golem and the Jinni.
I'm reading Wizard and Glass on audiobook and The Color of Magic on ebook. I didn't get much reading done this weekend but now that Easter is over, life should return to normal.

I am interested in where it will got and will try a few more, I think.
I finished the first 2 books in the Lensmen series and am taking a break to read Ultima by Stephen Baxter book 2 in his Proxima series
Though I'm a horror fan first and foremost, I love fantasy as well. Just started the Mistborn series.
Alissa wrote: "Though I'm a horror fan first and foremost, I love fantasy as well. Just started the Mistborn series."Excellent trilogy...but then, I am biased where B.Sanderson is concerned :)
I'm reading Beyond the Shadows. I was not disappointed by the 1st two books of this trilogy and, so far, it looks like this third book is better.
I'm currently reading The Buried Giant by Ishiguro. I've decided to read this novel because of the controversy it has caused in both the Literary Fiction and SF/Fantasy communities since publication. Is it a fantasy novel? Is it a literary novel? Is it a literary fantasy novel? Well, I'm about 80 pages into and it's more literary than fantasy so far. The fantasy elements are there in the background. I don't think it will appeal to George RR Martin or Robert Jordan fans. It's well-written and interesting so far. I will post a full review when I finish.Marion
Im reading The Emperor's Blades. Im about a third of the way through and hoping it picks up the pace sometime soon.
No fantasy for me at the moment... After the Funeral and Dry Storeroom No. 1: The Secret Life of the Natural History Museum.
I'm almost finished The Republic of Thieves. Looking forward to the next book in the series which is being published this fall. I hope.

Ouch. Pet Semetary. That's a book I still have to finish...years after I started it. And I don't think I'll ever finish it. It was too scary for me *shudders*"
I don't find that books scare me like they used to. I'm either immune to them having read so many horror stories, or... I'm just getting old.
