I've never read any by him either, but then I'm not very much into fantasy so he might not be quite to my liking...

Yes, fantasy is a strange genre fir me - I like some, but I am very selective - some fantasy is an OK level of "strange" for me and others just go a bit (or a lot!) too far for my enjoyment!

You might enjoy Coraline then as it's a children's book (a bit scary for kids IMO) so it's not too over the top.

Carolyn | 9838 comments I've just finished reading a delightful ebook by Vicki Lesage, an American living in Paris. She started keeping a blog about her move to Paris and turned it into a book Confessions of a Paris Party Girl. After falling in love with a handsome Parisian, she's now written a sequel about the arrival of her children Confessions of a Paris Potty Trainer.
Her books are very engaging, full of wry observations (often aimed at herself) on Parisian life and the French way of doing things, while exhibiting a real affection for her adopted country. Recommended if you feel like something light and humorous to read.

Good review, Phrynne. I have 50 pages left to finish the book. You know, with all the magic of the stones etc, I would have liked it if she had let ..... live. I cried when he died.

Thanks Bette. My impulse was to rave on for hours but that isn't really constructive plus it's hard to avoid spoilers.
If you are referring to the death that made me really sad too I think it was possibly for the best. He would not have had a good life in those days.

Sally906 | 87 comments Needed some light and fluffy reading so put down all my current reads and picked up Etiquette & Espionage by Gail Carriger fitted my mood perfectly, I have now picked up again Containment by New Zealand author Vanda Symon which is not at all light and fluffy but I love her work and main character.

I read Breath a while ago, and thought he did such a wonderful job of capturing that period and also the feeling of holding your breath under water till you might explode. Evocative.

Marina Finlayson | 285 comments Finished The Rithmatist recently. Absolutely stunning cover! It was a fun light read too, though quite a "young" Young Adult. My review is here.
