S.K. Munt (wordwhisperer) Scarlet (The Lunar Chronicles, #2) by Marissa Meyer

It's funny Brenda I didn't think but when I went to add the book, I realised that I've read 4 of the 'Scarlett' titles that came up! The S Letter, Pimpernel, The follow-up to Gone with the wind and a risqué book I won't mention, ha ha

On that note- I loved the 'sequel' to GWTW.

Oh, my, you are powering through these: won't you get Outlander overload? Usually, when I read a series, I have to read another book in between to prevent that. Unless they are shorter stories like Wool Omnibus. But you are obviously enjoying them!

Michael (knowledgelost) I started The Temporary Gentleman by Sebastian Barry last night; it's a little cutesy for a colonial novel but see how it goes.

Leonie (leonierogers) | 3567 comments I'm currently reading The Truth by Terry Pratchett for a bit of light relief. I've read it before, and it's always an enjoyable read, and it's good for a bit of a wind down when my brain is overloaded.

I noticed you gave it 5 stars Marianne. It's taking a bit of getting used to...just the way his writing is...but I'm really enjoying it. This is only my third King book but I thought the other two were brilliant. Hopefully this will make it three in a row.

I saw this one and have placed it on my books of interest list. Having been brought up in Post-war colonial Africa I thought I could possibly relate to it. Even as a little girl I recognised that when mrs so and so went back to the motherland for a fist then aunty such and such would turn up in her place for a while.

Deaths coming torture mastrer-if you want someone torture he wil | 47 comments so you are all talking about stephen king books? I have never read any so do you have a good one to start off with? I hate horror most of the time but I can stand it if it is a creepy mystery that is the only way.

message 8486: by Elaine (new)

Elaine | 2001 comments I've only read two but would highly recommend them and I wouldn't call them horror like some of his others. They are The Green Mile and 11/22/63. I know there are others here who are probably more qualified than me to recommend other Stephen King books to you.

Michelle (shelld79) | 144 comments Deaths coming wrote: "thank you anyway I have been looking at his books for a while and they all seem intresting but they all seem horror related so thank you for that"

He has written a lot of novels that aren't really all that horror related. Ones such as Duma Key, Misery, The Talisman, Under the Dome, and 11/22/63 are a few that I definitely wouldn't really call horror. More just along the lines of creepy of kind of sci-fi. There are a lot more but that's all that come off the top of my head quickly right now :-)

message 8490: by Elaine (new)

Elaine | 2001 comments Just noticed that The Green Mile is shelved as horror but personally I didn't think it was in the strict sense. Probably more supernatural. Good luck Deaths coming. I'm sure which ever you choose to start with you will enjoy. Another one that just came to mind, although I haven't read it but have seen the movie which was brilliant is The Shawshank Redemption.

Got to disagree with you about Misery. I thought it was horrific - or maybe better described as gruesome. If that had been my first Stephen King I would never have read another one. I think his real horror novels are ones like Cujo.

Absolutely agree with you, Phrynne. Misery was really gruesome and made my stomach curl. Carrie, 'Salem's Lot, Christine, Cujo are made of scary, horror stuff.

I finished the ARC of The Blue Mile by Aussie author Kim Kelly at 23 minutes past midnight last night! Could NOT put it down until I had finished! This is, in my opinion, Kim's best book to date, and I've read them all now...she is a wonderful storyteller.

My review will be posted here closer to publication date:)
