Brenda wrote: "A lot of people do that Lily! How are you liking Losing Kate?"Well - you know that I had a very 'advance' preview of Losing Kate. What I am liking is reading it with that 'fore-knowledge' and seeing what the editors kept/changed/chopped. I loved Kylie's voice from the very beginning, and all of that - and her wonderful turn of phrase is still there. So I'm enjoying it - I've had just enough time to still find a surprise in the pages, and she told me the ending is different to what I read as a beta reader.

Ah that's good! It's good that she could still surprise you even though you'd beta read it:)

Yes, the early Pattersons are great. Then, when you get completely addicted to Alex Cross, he comes up with crap like Cross Country

Totally agree!
Lily wrote: "I have two books on the go at once (do other people do that?) Losing Kate by Kylie Kaden and Floored by Ainslie Paton. Very differe..."Lots of others do that. I usually have 3 or 4 on the go :)
I have just started an ARC Pandora Jones: Admission by Aussie author Barry Jonsberg. I understand he lives here in Darwin too!

I hope you enjoy it then Sally!

Phrynne wrote: "Started The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman. I like the cover very much.
"I have just started this too, I confess to being swayed by the cover as well.
This is my first Alice Hoffman, I have been curious for sometime, the movie Practical Magic was based on her novel of the same name and she has recently released The Museum of Extraordinary Things which I am keen to read, but as yet don't own a copy. I picked up The Dovekeepers cheap in Big W while on my lunch break (I found it on the floor tucked under a shelf).

Actually, I had just finished reading another book and was trying to pick my next read so I had only read about 3 pages when I posted that comment but it was enough to clinch the deal. I stumbled into this thread because I was considering being more social and posting a few comments on my last book when I saw you were reading this.
Michael wrote: "As promised here is my review of Bastard Out of Carolina.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show..."
Wow, that's a great review Michael!
Michael wrote: "Thanks Julie. Was not my usual type, i agonised over it for ages trying to think of how to best express my feelings."Well you certainly gave a good descriptive account, I could sense the tension that this book must have generated!
I'm currently reading Murder in Suburbia: Disturbing Stories from Australia's Dark Heart by Emily Webb. Really interesting as it features quite a few of Australia's lesser known cases.
After Karin Slaughter's comment about Where'd You Go, Bernadette, I got this from the library. Very funny and an interesting format. Definitely enjoying this one.

I love Alice Hoffman but thought that The Museum of Extraordinary Things was a really poor novel. It doesn't display Hoffman's talents as a writer.

Back to the treadmill to get my k's done before work.

It's okay but not great. I am a bit more than half way and the constant misery of all the characters is making me depressed :(

If anyone wants a book that it totally different to the one you are currently reading I recommend Monkey: The Journey to the West. I read the translation by David Kherdian and loved it! It follows the adventures of a mischievous monkey on his journey to enlightenment. Read this if you were a fan of the cult TV show "Monkey".
I've read and reviewed Until You're Mine: A Novel by Samantha Hayes disturbing and sinister murder mystery about attacks on pregnant women but really absorbing.Review : https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Finished reading : Safe Harbour by Helene Young

I'm needing a coin toss please Brenda. Through the Cracks by Honey Brown or No Safe Place by Jenny Spence
Okay, so I am a big fan of Patricia Cornwell and I am currently reading Port Mortuary, admittedly I haven't read one of her books for a while, I've been busy discovering new authors, but is it just me, or is this book written by a ghostwriter, because it doesn't have the Patricia Cornwell feel about it?
Jenni wrote: "Okay, so I am a big fan of Patricia Cornwell and I am currently reading Port Mortuary, admittedly I haven't read one of her books for a while, I've been busy discovering new authors, but is it just..."I was a huge fan of Patricia Cornwell and read every book up until about number ten or eleven when she started to go right off...and then Blow Fly, which was totally rubbish by comparison. She was going through a lot of drama at the time with a court case and divorce and heaps of negative publicity which may have been her downfall?? I haven't picked up another book of hers since Blow Fly :/
I think she totally lost the plot...so to speak.

I remember struggling with the abrupt change of style, and I think Blowfly was the last one I read too.

Two weeks ago I turned on my kindle and the screen was completely broken...It seems to be common with my gen of Kindle. I looked into it and the screen is broken...It can be fixed but I believe it'll cost more than buying a newer one. Or I can buy a fix it up myself and break it worse..lol
Next Kindle will have a proper encasing.
