What Are You Currently Reading? (doesn't have to be an Aussie book)
Dale wrote: "Not much reading been going on here. Spent the weekend either at hospital with a sick husband or at home just chilling out after the dramas of the day before. Now trying to catch up on emails."Oh no! What happened, Dale? Is he home now?
It was but things are better today than they were Saturday. Shows how quickly life can change Elaine.
Doctor diagnosed suspected pneumonia.Gave me a scare. Rush trip to hospital. People prayed and somewhere along the way God intervened. After myriad tests they decided not pneumonia but an extremely nasty flu virus. I have my own thoughts on the subject,Kathryn. He is home and could take around two weeks to recover fully.

All the very best to your husband Dale. A nasty shock, but glad the outcome is positive. Take care of yourself too:)

Dale wrote: "It was but things are better today than they were Saturday. Hope he's better soon as even a bad flu can be quite worrisome. Take care and we're here for you if you feel like chatting.

Hope your hubby feels better soon.

Marianne wrote: "Vicki, what time are you up?"It depends. Yesterday it was 3AM; today it was just after 4AM.
Good morning to the early girls. :)
P.S. I go to bed somewhere between 10:00PM and 11:30PM. Alas, my early rising is not from choice. It's usually back pain that drives me from my bed.
Dale wrote: "Doctor diagnosed suspected pneumonia.Gave me a scare. Rush trip to hospital. People prayed and somewhere along the way God intervened. After myriad tests they decided not pneumonia but an extremely..."That would've been scary and stressful time for you. Dale. I bet you're both relieved to have a diagnosis and be back home. I hope your husband gets well soon and there are no more rush trips to the hospital.
Dale wrote: "Doctor diagnosed suspected pneumonia.Gave me a scare. Rush trip to hospital. People prayed and somewhere along the way God intervened. After myriad tests they decided not pneumonia but an extremely..."Glad to hear hubby is home: take care and tell him not to rush it!
I bet you were worried, Dale. And while it may seem a bit callous, I know what sort of waits are involved at hospitals working there and having spent many hours lately with my mum) I ALWAYS have a book in my handbag. Of course, you might have been too worried to read....

Force of habit from when I was working gets me up so early plus a good measure of insomnia! As my work got more complicated, I just started sleeping less. I'm usually in bed by about 10.30pm. I'm like you, I do like the quiet in the early hours plus I can talk to my friends in US because of the time diff.
Yes, we are The Early Girls, I like that:)
Vicki wrote: "P.S. I go to bed somewhere between 10:00PM and 11:30PM. Alas, my early rising is not from choice. It's usually back pain that drives me from my bed."Morning, Vicki! I slept in today!! Where's Bette, I wonder. I'm usually in bed by 9, latest unless there's something I want to see on TV that finishes 9.30. Or we go out.....
Sorry it's pain that gets you up, Vicki. Have you explored all avenues?
Dale wrote: "Doctor diagnosed suspected pneumonia.Gave me a scare. Rush trip to hospital. People prayed and somewhere along the way God intervened. I don't know about all, but certainly many. It's a condition in which the vertebrae are fusing together. Unfortunately, there is no cure and it's all about pain management. But I'm tough, and most of the time, I can manage it. :)

Vicki, I've suffered chronic pain for last 10 years. My Pain Management Specialist has me on a twice yearly of Ketamine. Commonly, it's a horse
anaesthetic and now used by kids illegally as Special K. But it has wondrous uses for very severe and chronic pain in Humans.
You need to see a Pain Management Specialist; in Vic, there's one at the Alfred and Geelong hospital. But it is used sparingly and only in extreme cases. Maybe for you?
Bette Book Babble wrote: "Vicki, I've suffered chronic pain for last 10 years. My Pain Management Specialist has me on a twice yearly of Ketamine..."Thanks, Bette. The last time I had Ketamine, I stopped breathing. Mind you, the dosage was enough to treat two horses... and I'd just come out of surgery. :)
I'll certainly research it some more, though, and discuss it with my doctor. Thanks!
Just finished The Life by Aussie writer Malcolm Knox. This book takes you inside the head of DK, a somewhat dysfunctional ex-world surfing champion. It's written in a unique style that really captures his voice. I liked it more than most of my bookclub colleagues.
Thanks Kathryn, Brenda, and Elaine for prayers, concern and encouragement. Both of us just taking things easy at present.
Just now found the rest of the comments. Thanks Carolyn, Sharon, Dhitri, Sally, Julie, Vicki, and Marianne. Hope I haven't missed anyone. I did have a book Marianne, but couldn't read. Too much going with on myriad tests and we also had special friends came in to be with us and offer support.
Vicki wrote: "Bette Book Babble wrote: "Vicki, I've suffered chronic pain for last 10 years. My Pain Management Specialist has me on a twice yearly of Ketamine..."Thanks, Bette. The last time I had Ketamine, I..."
Yes, pain specialists are usually extremely helpful! They have quite an arsenal of stuff at their fingertips to assist pain sufferers.
And Dale, I certainly hope your hubby is on the mend now. You can count on my prayers as well :)
I've just picked up If Walls Could Talk by Juliet Blackwell - a paranormal cosy mystery - just what I am in the mood for!!!
Bette Book Babble wrote: "Dale wrote: "Doctor diagnosed suspected pneumonia. Gave me a scare. Rush trip to hospital. People prayed and somewhere along the way God intervened. After myriad tests they decided not pneumonia but..."Have to say he is a better patient than some I have heard of Bette. Sorry to hear you and Vicki experience such back pain. I have been there but a 6 hour op by a brilliant surgeon solved the problem at least as long as I am sensible. Can't play tennis which is sad or vacuum( what a shame LOL) but still able to walk. Thoughts and prayers with both of you. Backs are hard to deal with. Constant pain becomes very wearing.

At present reading Starry Night. I just need something light at present that doesn't require a lot of thinking to balance Passion Play - the Oberammergau Tales which despite my best intentions and what my currently reading info says I only started two days ago. Life intruded till then.
