It took me a while but I finished Duma Key by Stephen King last night. I liked it really well and like many of his books, it leaves me with something to think about. Now I'm going to start digging in to the pile of 13 new books I got for Christmas. First up is Gone by James Patterson. Can't wait to see how Michael is going to hide out from a killer with his 10 kids and their nanny. Should be good.

Just finished listening to The Great Cake Mystery: Precious Ramotswe's Very First Case: A Number 1 Ladies' Detective Agency Book for Young Readers (No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith. It's really a children's book and it would be a great introduction for young readers to the mystery genre.

Just finished and gave it five stars. Obviously, for me, the very realistic portrayal of the emotional partnership between police officer and working police dog, plus the PTSD issues for both, were a major part of my interest.

This is one I will keep and re-read.

I'm probably not the one to ask with this as I'm not a fan of his Cole/Pike books. This one (for me) was great but there have been others of the Crais books I've tried that were definitely not my sort of book.

Coincidentally, I also just finished Suspect, only this one by Michael Robotham. I'd read the last two Joseph O'Loughlin books and loved them, so I went back to the one that started it all. Not quite as polished as his later books, but only because his later books are so outstanding. This book is a great read and I finished it in two days. Can't wait til his new one comes out here early this year!

I finished Missing by the Swedish author Karin Alvtegen. Born into a life of privilege, Sybilla is now homeless. Sometimes she hangs out at a hotel bar and charms a businessman into paying for her dinner and hotel room. One night Sybilla chooses the wrong man and he's found dead and mutilated the next morning. Of course Sybilla is the prime suspect. Alvtegen does a skillful job developing the character of Sybilla and the mystery is well-constructed and resolved.

The Death and Life of Bobby Z is the book that started Don Winslow on his “drugs in Laguna” series, which isn’t actually a series as much as an attitude and state of mind. The attitude and stock company are there; the plotting isn’t quite yet. Still, it’s well entertaining. Three and a half stars rounded down to three.

Darwin, I've read The Two Minute Rule and Demolition Angel by Robert Crais and liked them both quite well.

Careful! JA Konrath's books are so addictive. I absolutely love the characters and I find them to be so gritty and honestly scary. The entire series is worth a read.

Love all his standalone. Hostage and Two Minute Rule were both great but my favorite is Demolition Angel.

I just finished, on audio, Interpreter of Maladies and for all you audio fans I suggest you read it instead of listening to it. I don't think I got the full story through the audio book. I am now listening on audio, The Invisible Wall: A Love Story That Broke Barriers. It's a great story.

I finished Low Pressure by Sandra Brown. Bellamy's sister Susan was murdered 18 years ago. A teenage boy was convicted of the murder but Bellamy still has questions and writes a book to expunge the incident from her mind. When the book causes renewed interest in the case many people with something to hide get antsy and Bellamy is threatened. Bellamy and Dent Carter, Susan's boyfriend at the time of the murder, form an uneasy alliance to look into Susan's murder. They discover that witnesses lied, the police and prosecutor wanted to convict someone at any cost, someone is bent on revenge, and Susan wasn't the innocent her parents portrayed. For me the obligatory romance between Bellamy and Dent was an unnecessary distraction but I enjoyed the book and recommend it to mystery lovers.

Just finished Gone by James Patterson and it was a big disappointment for me, 2 stars. I started the newest Stephanie Plum Takedown Twenty last night. Hopefully it has something new to add to the mix rather than just the whole Morelli/Ranger thing.

I have also started "A Killing in the Hills" by Julia Keller - now this is a good one! I finished half of it in one night. Hope to read the rest of it today. I also have her next book of hers here to read "Bitter River". I think I have really found a great author that knows how to create very interesting characters !
