I just finished reading Peter Jame's
, I liked the book very much and was the first time reading a book by this author. I am currently reading
. Not sure if I will like this or not, only started reading it yesterday and not that far along.
I just finished Faithful Place -
. Absolutely amazing! One of my few 5 star reviews. Can be read stand alone if you haven`t read the other in the series. My review - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I just finished White Fire by Preston & Child and I thought it was a really good book. It's a turn to a singular case after the last three book arc, but I thought it was yet another great book in one of my favorite series.
I'm currently reading Ken Pelham's Brigands Key which so far is living up to the great expectations I had after reading Pelham's short story collections Treacherous Bastards and Tales of Old Brigands Key
I just started and finished today
. It was a good book. Although I don't understand why Eve never shares her feeling and thoughts about Bonnie to Joe. It seems to me she doesn't trust him as much as she thinks.
Jake wrote: "I just finished the latest installment of the Donovan Creed series, Because We Can. It was a whole new level of strange and ridiculous."I read the first... and stopped. :-)
I just finished
. I was very disappointed. I didn't care for this book. The storyline was similar to what James did in his Women's Murder Club series. The fact that Alex keeps looking for his fiancé seemed over done. Toward the end of the story I didn't care if he found her or not. The entire thing about about him and Christine joking that they made a baby seemed too fake. This story was boring and unbelievable to me.
Georgia wrote: "Dorie, The Keeper of Lost Causesis a good book. I think the Danes have made a movie of it."
I'm enjoying it now. Very slow in the beginning, but it picks up once they start to investigate the crime. Assad is a delightful character, I'm loving him.
I've finally finished Rouge - Isabella Modra. Now to carry on reading My Savior Forever - Vicki Green, From a Dead Sleep - John A. Daly, Cold Mourning: A Stonechild and Rouleau Mystery - Brenda Chapman, The Heartstone Odyssey - Arvan Kumar, A Country Kitchen Christmas - Leanne Tyler, Cruel Justice - M.A. Comley and Emotional Geology - Linda Gillard.
I finished A Turbulent Priest by J.M. Gregson. In this British mystery, a ferocious rainstorm unearths a murdered corpse and DI Percy Peach and DS Lucy Blake discover the victim was a priest suspected of molesting boys in the church youth club. Moreover, the priest seems to have been associated with a child porn ring. Plenty of suspects in this cozy mystery and some interesting characters. I thought it was an okay light mystery. 3 stars for me.
I finished Secrets to the Grave by Tami Hoag and found it a little disappointing after reading Deeper Than the Dead. Now reading Prodigal Son, the first in the Frankenstein series by Dean Koontz. So far, I like it quite well.
I'm halfway through Fortune Like the Moon. I believe I read it several years back, but long enough that I can't remember it. Enjoying it. I think the author does a smooth job shifting between the viewpoints of the two main characters, which she does quite frequently.
I just finished "Dr Sleep" by s. King it was pretty good! Next I will read a book about Genealogy and DNA "Finding Family" by Richard Hill.
I'm currently reading A Morbid Taste for Bones, Cadfael #1 and about to start Rin Tin Tin: The Life and the Legend.
Over the weekend I finished Get Real by Donald E. Westlake and Fox Tracks: A Novel by Rita Mae Brown.
I really enjoyed Get Real.
I really enjoyed Get Real.
Finished
The Cold Dish
, the novel that introduced Sheriff Walt Longmire to the world. A sure hand with the alpine Wyoming setting, an engaging leading man and a grade-A sidekick are undone by an out-of-character first-person narrative voice and a lack of dramatic seed corn to move me on to the next installment. A&E does it better on Longmire, showing us what could've been. Three stars and some change, rounded down.Read the full review here..
Now reading Provenance: How a Con Man and a Forger Rewrote the History of Modern Art. Yes, more art crime.
At 1.30am this morning I finished My Savior Forever - Vicki Green . Now I am off to read The New Year's Masquerade - Elise Marion.
I finished The Poisoned Pilgrim by Oliver Pötzsch, the fourth book in the hangman's daughter series. Mystery is afoot in a monastery in Bavaria in 1666, a popular pilgrimage destination. Monks are experimenting with lightning, relics are missing, and people are dying and disappearing. On hand to look into the strange happenings are three unusual pilgrims: the hangman's daughter Magdalena, her medic husband Simon, and the hangman, Jakob Kuisl. I enjoyed this book which had plenty of colorful characters and enough twists and turns to keep it interesting.
Lance wrote: "A&E does it better on Longmire, showing us what could've been."It's interesting how different readers react to a book (and TV or movie) and why. For me, this series has been just the opposite ... I love the books for their accuracy in both setting and characters. I was raised and spent a great deal of my adult life in the region of the setting and many of the book characters and even years of being in the local law enforcement community myself. I've *met* many of the characters in real life and the author does them well.
OTOH I made it through half of the second episode of "Longmire" and quit ... for me, one good character could not carry the TV series. My mental image of both Henry and Vic were so different from the TV characters that it just didn't work.
Well I have just read The New Year's Masquerade - Elise Marion which was another romantic story that I've loved.
Finished Nairobi Heat by Mukoma wa Ngugi. Fantastic and cynical and hopeful and suspenseful. Really, all of those things.
Brigands KeyI its finished Brigands Key which was a great book full of all the adventure of Clive Cussler, the scientific intrigue of Michael Crichton, and the breakneck speed that makes you flip pages at a fevered pace.
Place of Fear
I moved right into A Place of Fear also by Ken Pelham and I have to say that it's started pretty awesome and I'm greatly enjoying it so far.
I just finished
and really enjoyed it. I've posted a full review on my site and a brief on one GR.
Peace, Seeley
I just finished:Magpie Hallwhich looked so promising but was just plain disappointing.
The Weird Sisters which was thoroughly enjoyable especially as I myself have decided that I need to move back home.
I am now reading:
And Only to Deceive which I am really liking thus far.
Just about finished Bill Kirton's 'The Darkness' and hoping to find time to review it... Next up, the William Boyd James Bond book, Solo.
I finished Suspect by Robert Crais. In this thriller Police Officer Scott James is badly injured and his partner is killed when they stumble into a heist on a Los Angeles street. Elsewhere, Maggie, a German Shepherd "Marine dog" is shot and injured while sniffing for explosives in Afghanistan. Months later Scott and Maggie come together in the K-9 unit of the Los Angeles police department. Scott and Maggie train and bond while Scott continues to investigate who pulled off the heist that almost killed him. The book flows to a believable and satisfying conclusion. 4 stars for me.

This was the best book that I have read this year.
This was the best book that I have read this year.
I finished Proof of Guilt by Charles Todd the 15th Inspector Rutledge mystery. There are plenty of potential crimes in this book; a body washes ashore in Sussex; another body is found on a Chelsea street; Lewis French - a London wine merchant - is missing; and his partner Matthew Traynor can't be located. There are confusingly many suspects/witnesses related to these incidents and Inspector Rutledge endlessly drives around England interviewing people over and over again. This leads to a slow moving story. Plus it bothered me that Acting Chief Superintendent Markham insists that Rutledge arrest two suspects though there is no proof they are guilty. Sadly all this rigmarole does not lead to a satisfactory conclusion that ties up all the loose ends. I usually like Todd's books but this one is only 2 stars for me.
The last (and best) three mysteries I read this year were by Denise Mina; Still Midnight, The End of the Wasp Season, and Gods and Beasts. I read these in quick succession, immediately caught up in the character of Alex Morrow, the smart and interesting detective who's the main character. I'm eagerly awaiting the next installation of this series. Mina has written other books, but I haven't yet read any.
Just finished Elizabeth George's Just An Evil Act. Loved the book. Kept me involved all the way through.About to start Secret Storm by JT Ellison, Alex Kava and Erica Spindler
Just finished Gillespie and I by Jane Harris. Did not enjoy it at all.Now into Mr Penumbras 24 Hour Bookstore. So far, so good.
Kathryn wrote: "Barbara wrote: "I finished Suspect by Robert Crais. I usually like Crais so I will check out this one you mentioned. His Joe Pike series is good for those of you hardcore action fans. Although I often wonder how Joe can see indoors with his constant companion of sunglasses.
