I finished W is for Wasted by Sue Grafton. P.I. Kinsey Millhone is between jobs when she becomes involved with the deaths of two men: Pete Wolinksy, a disreputable P.I. acquaintance who is shot to death in a park; and R.T. Dace, an alcoholic, ex-con vagrant who Kinsey never met but who has left her a small fortune. When Kinsey starts looking into the deaths of the two men she discovers some intriguing connections between them. Seems that Wolinsky was investigating a doctor who may have falsified data in a pharmaceutical study involving alcoholics. There are plenty of interesting characters in this story including old favorites like Kinsey's handsome 88-year-old landlord Henry, his hypochondriac brother William, and William's wife, Rosie. Grafton does a good job of intertwining the Wolinksy/Dace story lines leading to a satisfactory conclusion. This is a treat of a mystery book.
I just started Breakdown by Sara Paretsky. So far I've been enjoying it. Before that I read the thriller Derailed by James Siegel which I really liked.
Wanted to read a nice, light christmas cozy over the holidays so I started reading Duck the Halls
by Donna Andrews. Off to a fun start!
Tay wrote: I did not like Alone at all. It was too depressing."I'm still having a hard time getting into it. I think I'll table it and try another book. I have plenty to read!
I just finished Beautiful Nightmares by Lauren Hammond. This was the final book in the Asylum Trilogy. All 3 books were total mind f^&%s. If you want to experience mysteriousness, confusion, tragedy, romance and to definitely not be able to see how this plays out, then this is the trilogy for you!
I am STILL thinking about this and feeling a bit confused! Still !
Jeff wrote: "I'm now reading Die for You by Lisa Unger. This is the first book of hers that I have read. good so far"That is on my list to read this year. I am going to start it today. I read 3 others of hers the past two months were very good.
,
, and
.
I just finished Die For You and it was a great read. I couldn't put it down. The plot was realistic, characters were very likable, and I didn't see the ending before it was revealed. I gave up on Alone for the time being.
I just started reading Fatal Error by J.A. Jance. So far it's been very good. I finished Breakdown and liked it so much I gave it five stars.

I just finished
by Mo Hayder, a very creepy, taut thriller. Some things about the plot irritated me, but I still enjoyed overall. Now reading
, a Cadfael mystery by Ellis Peters and just started a new author for me,
by Stuart Neville.
I just finished Ken Pelham's Place of Fear
Which I thought was a wonderful adventure with some very thrilling elements.
Now I've moved on to Sharon Stevenson's Curse Corrupted
The forth novel in the Gallows series which I am greatly enjoying, like all of Sharon Stevenson's books.
Both Ken Pelham and Sharon Stevenson are independent authors, like me, and are well worth checking out if you're tired of the major publishing house's latest watered down, filtered, and overly edited versions of what the author intended the reader to have.

Thinking was not an option.
I have read the other three and liked them as well. I'll have to see what else this author has out there to read.
I finished The Corpse on the Court by Simon Brett. Carole and Jude are friends and amateur sleuths in Fethering, a town in England. In this fourteenth volume in the series Jude has fallen for handsome, mysterious Piers who is obsessed with 'real tennis', a game played on an indoor court. Jude's preoccupation with Piers leaves Carole feeling neglected so she decides to look into an old unsolved mystery, 'the girl in the lake', by herself. Meanwhile, the body of an elderly tennis player, Reggie Playfair, is found on the tennis court. Thus Carole and Jude undertake simultaneous - but largely independent - investigations. During their sleuthing Carole meets a woman looking for her long lost daughter and Jude discovers that the tennis court is a trysting place for lovers. The book has some interesting characters and the dual investigations dovetail nicely at the end. I'd recommend the book as an entertaining light mystery.
Just finished
Provenance: How a Con Man and a Forger Rewrote the History of Modern Art
, the real-life story of how pathological liar John Drewe tinkered with the history of European Modern art in order to sell hundreds of forged paintings to collectors, galleries and museums. If you like con men, you'll love this book. Four stars.Read the full review here.
Now reading Roger Hobbs' Ghostman .
Just finished Richard Castle Frozen Heat (book 4). Just started Deadly Heat (book 5 of 5) by Richard Castle.Deadly Heat is a continuation of the previous book.
Too bad this is the last in the series.

What? I didn't know that was the last one in the series! I loved that series.
Just finished
Ghostman
, an entry in the growing genre of "fixer thrillers". A tidy, efficient crime thriller with stripped-down prose that goes by fast. The protagonist is largely charisma-free, however, and the twisty plot doesn't seem to challenge him the way it should. 3.5 stars rounded down.Read the full review here.
Now reading The Death and Life of Bobby Z and/or Black Karma , depending on my mood.

I finished This Body of Death by Elizabeth George. This 16th book in the series tells the story of two crimes: the murder of a toddler by three juvenile delinguents and the murder of a young woman in a London cemetery. DI Thomas Lynley, still mourning the death of his wife, returns to Scotland Yard to help investigate the second crime. His team is supervised by Acting Superintendent Isabelle Ardery, a divorced, pushy, alcoholic micromanager who is anxious to retain the job permanently. Plenty of drama ensues, some due to the murder enquiry and some due to interaction & friction among the characters. My favorite parts of the book occur when DS Barbara Havers, instructed to dress better by Ardery, is assisted in this endeavor by her nine-year-old neighbor Hadiyyah. These parts are heart-warming and fun. George does a good job dispensing clues throughout the book and the ending is satisfying. 4 stars.
Jeff wrote: "Started Sliver of Truth by Lisa Unger"Have you read Beautiful Lies first? You will miss some things if you haven't.
Last night I finished Private Berlin - James Patterson and now will read Private Down Under: - James Patterson.
I finished " In the Woods" ,I must say, I'd heard so many good things, but I was disappointed, I didn't like the ending , thought the plot was very sole moving, but I will give the author another chance,I have a few more books of hers. Now I'm starting "The Wolves of Midwinter" ,I love Anne Rice's vampire novels, so far the werewolves are not as intriguing...
I just finished The Dark Tide. It was okay. I liked The characters but I just wasn't sold on the plot.
Malina, In the woods is slower moving than the other books and is the only book that leaves so a big mystery hanging. Faithful place is the best if them all but the plot is always secondary to the character development. If you don't like faithful place after you read it then you probably won't like the rest if them.
Tim "The Enchanter" wrote: "Malina, In the woods is slower moving than the other books and is the only book that leaves so a big mystery hanging. I just finished The Wicked Girls by Alex Marwood and loved it!! Next I'm gonna start The Trinity Game and then The Gods of Guilt.
Jeff wrote: "Started Sliver of Truth by Lisa Unger"let me know what you think since this is on my to read list
Just finished Evil in All Its Disguises by Hilary Davidson. It's the third in her Lily Moore series. This one takes place in Acapulco. I suppose the best way to write a creepy story is to use professional travelers--not just travel journalists--as your core characters. Oh, a little tropical rain, crumbling hotel, lying and cheating and men with lavender button-down shirts all help with the atmosphere. I don't know why the lavender open-neck shirt under the silk suit creeps me out, but it really does.
Shannon wrote: "Jeff wrote: "Started Sliver of Truth by Lisa Unger"let me know what you think since this is on my to read list"
I read it Shannon just last month. Loved both Beautiiful Lies which is the first in the series. Then I read this one, I loved how the main character talked with you like she was talking to a friend. I also loved how engaging it was by asking the reader what they would have done in her predicament.
I just started Indemnity Only. This is another new author for me. I think this is the oldest book that I've read as well.
Jannene wrote: "I just started Indemnity Only. This is another new author for me. I think this is the oldest book that I've read as well."I just read Indemnity Only! It's the first V.I. Warshawski and as a fan of Sue Grafton's alphabet series I'm looking forward to reading my way through this one. Kinsey Millhone had the ubiquitous black all-purpose dress and drove a VW. VI's Chevy Monza is an unrecognized classic among cars.
But wait...the "oldest book" you're read is from the 1980s?
Renee wrote: "Jannene wrote: "I just started Indemnity Only. This is another new author for me. I think this is the oldest book that I've read as well."I just read Indemnity Only! It's the first..."
I love Sue Grafton's books. This was 1982 and Sue's first book looks like 1982. I guess it is tied with the oldest book that I have read. I haven't read anything earlier that I recall.
I just finished Sharon Stevenson's Curse Corrupted the 4th novel in Gallows Twins series of Supernatural Thrillers, which I found greatly entertaining, just like all of Sharon Stevenson's other books.
Now I'm reading James Rollins Blood Brothers
Traveled a good bit over the holidays so I listened to The Case of Jennie Brice by Mary Roberts Rinehart and The Daughter of Timeby Josephine Tey while driving/riding. Both terrific but the best surprise was to hear Derek Jacobi as the narrator of Daughter of Time- what a great way to spend Boxing Day.
Also read Jeeves and the Wedding Bells bySebastian Faulks. Not a mystery but great entertainment. Faulks does a terrific job of capturing Wodehouse.

I just finished Indemnity Only by Sara Paretsky. I think I'm going to start Deadlock which is the next book in the series.
I just finished Burying the Past which was a little disappointing but not a bad read.I think I'll get onto The English Girl next.

Alone was a little slow for me and I didn't quite see how it played into the series. However, the rest of the books in the series are good if you can get through this one.
