I finished The Innocent by Harlan Coben. Matt Hunter accidentally kills a fellow college student during a drunken brawl and goes to prison for 4 years. Now, 9 years after his release Matt is happily married, expecting a baby, and looking for a house in New Jersey when his life unravels. A mysterious nun is murdered and a phone call she made connects her to Matt; Matt is sent phone pictures of his scantily clad wife in the company of a black-haired man - who is soon murdered. The nun and the dead man have ties to Las Vegas and local law enforcement as well as Vegas FBI agents see Matt as a suspect. Matt embarks on his own investigation, but everyone in this story has secrets to keep and Matt is soon in danger. There are a lot of characters in the book which can be confusing. But the story is a page-turner as we go from the NJ suburbs to the sex clubs of Las Vegas. Some of the twists in the story are telegraphed but I didn't anticipate all the surprises toward the end. All in all a good read.

I am reading Honeymoon . I've lost A LOT of interest in James Patterson but I kept seeing good reviews about this book and the 2nd one so I thought I'd give them a try. So far, it's pretty good.

I just finished Julia Spencer-Fleming's Through the Evil Days and am wondering what others think of it. I've loved the series since the outset, but I'm not so sure about this one. It's a good thriller, but I'd argue that long-time followers of the series aren't looking for thrillers - we'd rather have character development and a less frantic pace.

I finished Through the Evil Days: A Clare Fergusson/Russ Van Alstyne Mystery a couple of weeks ago. I liked the first part of the book where the cops were trying to find out who kidnapped the child, Mikayla. Once the kidnappers were identified and law enforcment set out to capture them, the book bogged down. For me prolonged scenes of slogging through ice and snow and tangling with the bad guys seemed like writing to a formula. I can see that - given the history of the series - some readers would have liked more character development but it was okay for me.

Just started a non-fiction book that has to do with murder titled "The Inventor and the Tycoon." Also picked up an old pulp copy of "Anatomy of a Murder."

I finished A Question of Honor by Charles Todd, the 5th book in the Bess Crawford series. In the early 1900's, young Bess lives in India where her father is in charge of a British regiment. A young officer in the regiment, Lt. Wade, is charged with murdering a family of three as well as his own parents. Wade makes a run for it and is reported dead, leaving a blot on the regiment's honor. Ten years later, during WWI, Bess is an army nurse and hears that Lt. Wade has been seen in France. Bess is determined to find Lt. Wade and bring him to justice. The usual characters are on hand in this story, including Beth's parents and her friend Simon. The book provides an authentic feel for the horrors of combat; the pain and plight of wounded soldiers; and the difficult conditions in field hospitals. A good book for fans of historical mysteries. 3 stars for me.

I enjoyed the Frankenstein series. Its definitely worth reading all the way through.

The series is great, one of my favourites. Are you on Season 2? I've also read the first three books. The first took a bit to find its stride, at least so I thought, but I enjoyed the next two very much.

Maggie, I'm a little wishy-washy with Koontz. Sometimes I love his books and sometimes I find them so descriptive it bores me. This was a good one, though.

I have just finished reading my first Tana French Book "Broken Harbor". I really enjoyed this book, there towards the middle it was a bit slow, I did not understand the authors reason for so many "details". Now that I have finished it I understand, She was building up to the ending, every line was needed! This author really digs into the characters and I enjoy that. She makes you feel as though you are walking through this murder with the main detective. Not many authors can accomplish that. I was really surprised at the ending! I was also surprised that the author is a woman, not a man. Tana French is quite talented, I will definetly read her other books!

Tim, This was the first Tana French novel I have read. Now I will work backwards in time and read her others! Thanks for the recommendation!

Glad you enjoyed it Paige! Always happy when there is a new Tana French fan :) Her books in the series are such that they could be read as standalone novels. Still, I would suggest you read "In The Woods" before you read "The Likeness".

OK I will read "In the Woods" first. I have just checked online and my LIbrary has both books. That is good I will not have to spend any $$. I certainly don't mind buying books of authors I like, it is just that I read about a book every other day when I am on a "binge" and it gets very expensive!
