Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I was kind of sad to see my average drop to 3.15. I can't be Ace 3:16 anymore. :( That's my favorite nickname and I'm not even saying it because that was your tag.

Leea | 1437 comments bummer... Better go find a 5 star book to bump your rating. lol!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I know. I might need a few. There's been more 1 and 2 star reads in the past month than usual.
:(

Ian, I added that book. You better not be setting me up for something bad, like all of the cat shenanigans. Why do I have to read a cat book again?

Because you can't be a cat lady unless you read inspirational books about cats...having kitten calendars is great but it doesn't make you a cat lady.

I was going to say the same thing. Which sounds better when you say it out loud. :)

But don't go by me....English is not even my first language so I have to constantly rewrite. ;)

message 2356: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I'm in a slump since yesterday...not in the mood to read anything, including audios. :(

I rate tons of books 3.5 stars too, Stacia so you're not the only one!

Super cute, photo! When does your school year run? We're only halfway through summer vacation so it's odd hearing about back to school already.

And in book news - anyone else as excited as me for Magic Rises next week? There better be a whole heap of excellent Curran.

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I am not that excited, maybe because Andrea's book was such a huge disappointment for me.

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I didn't have much time to read yesterday. I went to the JT/JayZ concert in San Francisco last night. It was amazing but such a cluster f*ck of people when we were leaving.

I'm still working on Time Between Us (Time Between Us, #1) by Tamara Ireland Stone . I've been a slow reader lately but hopefully, I will finish tonight.

Our school year runs from end of July to end of May... With 2 week breaks in Oct and April, along with 2 weeks for the Christmas/new year holiday and Thanksgiving. Plus we have a lot of min. days. It was crazy they started on a Friday, I kept thinking it was Monday.

I didn't read Andrea's book yet, will I be lost if I read Magic Rises?

I'm going to guess not. Andrea's book felt like very much her own thing and sideways from the rest of the series if that makes sense.

message 2375: by Regina (new)

I just can't take them seriously with a name like 'Dragon Kings'. It makes me think of the Gypsy Kings and all the music bands with 'Kings' in the name.

Hmm. I guess they could rumble West Side Story-style, eh? Although I prefer the cage. LOL

message 2387: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Jul 27, 2013 10:12PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I didn't mind the name Dragon Kings because they were actually Dragon Kings (and women can be kings, which is just bad ass). But I was in the middle on that book myself. I liked it for being a little more gritty than the usual UF fare but was sort of disappointed that so much of the book was about training. I would have liked more actual fight scenes or even more of the dragon lore to have been explained.

But I thought it was another decent first in a series effort, so I'm looking forward to book 2.

Speaking of kings, I started a book King Hall by Scarlett Dawn and they have a very interesting system with multiple kings. I'm curious to see how this is going to go. Kind of reminds me of a sluttier Hex Hall so far. ;)

Finished The Mistress (The Original Sinners, #4) by Tiffany Reisz and it wasn't my favorite of the series. The prior 2 books were much better. It was just alright, but I did quite like how some of the resolutions were handled for a couple of the characters. Ian...I laughed when Zach's freckle fetish was mentioned.

But "Dragon Kings" is just the name of their race. They are ALL Dragon Kings so it doesn't make anybody special (men or women) or have any significance as to being a leader or being in charge so I don't see any strength on having it. It sounds even sillier because they are being subjugated.

Agree on too much training. I also don't feel emotionally involved even though this woman has suffered a lot.

Oh well...I still have half of the book to go. Hopefully the end is better.

message 2400: by Regina (last edited Jul 29, 2013 07:02AM) (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments So Dead Ever After (Sookie Stackhouse, #13) by Charlaine Harris is definitely a slow start, I am about 33% in. It is better than the last 3 or 4 so far though. I am OKAY with Sookie not ending with Bill, Eric, Quinn, Alcide or whomever. I have no problem with surprises and unhappy endings. I read this series for the world and the fun BUT what I am not okay with is the fact that the author seemed to give each of her male characters and some female characters -- personality transplants. There is no consistent storyline. Bill, Alcide, Eric and Quinn all changed incomprehsibly from how they were initially written. To me that seems sloppy and that the author has no clue where she is taking her story. It pisses me off too, b/c up until and including the book published in 2010 -- I was buying all of her books -- the anthologies, the other series and sometimes buying the audio after I read the main book. So feel really let down that the author didn't respect her readers enough to give us a well thought out storyline.

So the audio is irritating. It is really freaking slow.
