D.G. I'm completely loving The Demon King (Seven Realms, #1) by Cinda Williams Chima . My library has the next book in the series so I may be tempted to start that one next.

I loved Unbeautifully, Leea. I'm glad you liked it!

Leea | 1437 comments Angie, there were some issues I had with the book. The violence against woman was just shocking. That part I didn't like it!

DG, I air dry my hair only. It's just easier and less frizz. I used to straighten my hair, one time I was meeting my own mother and she didn't recognize me. lol!

D.G. HAHAHAHAHA!!!

Yay!

I won't be starting Tell the Wolves until tomorrow. And I don't know if I'll be able to do Covet for at least a week, so you all might have to go on without me. I just realized that I have 3 galleys which publish on the 6th and I should probably get those read.

About halfway into The Heiress Effect (Brothers Sinister, #2) by Courtney Milan and it's been so much fun. I can't believe how different this is from the first book (which I didn't like). I've been smiling all over the place. I love that neither the hero or heroine are perfect, and how they met was hilarious.

I agree. These books are pretty raw.

message 2507: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I pre-ordered The Heiress Effect (Brothers Sinister, #2) by Courtney Milan and haven't read it yet. Courtney Milan is one of the few recent HR writers that I like.

No worries, I also have a few galley's to read and review. NG got me again. haha! I did get approved for
The Dream Thieves (The Raven Cycle, #2) by Maggie Stiefvater , so excited to read it!!

Stacia, after Tell the Wolves are you reading Wicked Beat? I might start it.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Yep. I'm going right into Wicked Beat after I finish Wolves. Then I'm going to read that Tarzan romance, which I'm super excited for!

Are we going to discuss Wolves in our group buddy read topic, since there's at least 4 of us reading?

I'll have to make time for the Stiefvater series at some point.

message 2510: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments It's a perfect time to try it out! Who's reading? You me Leea and Kay?

message 2511: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments So I already started tearing up after reading the first part of the first sentence. My great Uncle died of AIDS when I was around 15, I remember the moment my mother told me and explained what AIDS was. Sitting on our front porch crying my eyes out and not really understand what it meant. It was devastating for his mother, he was her only child. It was a time when being gay was beyond taboo and I know that she was shunned by so many people. Needless to say, this is going to be hard to read.

It's this one Untamed by Jane Shoup

message 2515: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Not the book I was thinking of on NG. I think it's a Viking book :)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I got the other Viking book up there but probably won't read it until Sept.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments That's what I've been having to do. I have everything listed out on a desktop document and I'm trying to avoid reading some of the ones I'm most excited for because I have other arcs which are due sooner.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Just a reminder that our group read for August will be Bitter Night (Horngate Witches, #1) by Diana Pharaoh Francis . The topic is going up now.

D.G. That's so sad, Leea. :(

message 2522: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I lost two friends, both died in the late 90s. But it is nothing like losing a relative -- and when you are younger. This book resonated with me because I graduated from HS in 1990 and I remember distinctly when AIDS became public. I was going to a catholic school, living in a small town -- maybe it was the same everywhere. I also loved how the sibling relationship was done. Loved this book.

message 2523: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments I'll probably start Tell the Wolves tonight. I have to finish up The Summer I Became a Nerd.

message 2524: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments We're reading Tell the Wolves in the Buddy read thread in here, right? I hope so, because I'm gonna pop over there and set it up.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I think so. I haven't even had a chance to start yet. I'm so far behind. We were at Silas' first day of school then at the hospital, so I'm just now getting caught up on my email/GR stuff. I might be starting tonight before bed, sorry for lagging behind.

message 2526: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments I won't get much more than the first chapter read today either, maybe a little before bed. So no worries. :)

message 2527: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) My daughter saw the thumbnail of Wolves and thought it looked like the Shadow & Bone cover but in green. It kinda does. Looking forward to hearing how you all like it. Its in my TBR.

message 2528: by D.G. (new)

D.G. How's your Mom, Stacia?

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments She's up and down. Her breathing is the biggest issue at the moment. Her throat keeps getting clogged and she's stopped breathing a few times. She's having trouble walking at all because she gets short of breath.

My sister in law has been calling non-stop today trying to coordinate plans for her and my dad's 50th anniversary party, which we have to have in the hospital on Saturday. As soon as I think we're done, she calls again. So reading has been a no-go.

message 2530: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments That sounds almost irritating (re your SIL), sorry.

Does she have a bronchial infection?

message 2531: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Aug 01, 2013 01:57PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments She had a cancerous thyroid removed and had her vocal chords nicked, so she's hooked up to some sort of electric voice aid (she can only speak with it and even then, it's just a whisper) and she also has a tracheotomy (the tube thing with the mist that's going directly into her throat).

Last we heard, her lymph nodes were cancerous too but no one's able to confirm what has been done about that.

Anyway, bbl. Off to grab Silas from his first day at school, so I'm excited to see how that went for him! Maybe I can get some pictures up later.

message 2532: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments That sounds painful, and the not knowing must be driving you crazy.

First day of school? I can't imagine starting this early! Definitely post pics!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Kindergarten! My baby child is off in the world now. We had a group of us go to the school today (my husband, his parents, his sister and her girlfriend and their daughter, and my older son) and I think we were probably the rowdy bunch, haha. It was surreal for Garrett my oldest to be there because he just graduated high school and we were back at his elementary school.

BUT...I kid you not and I'm not even exaggerating here. There was a guy in a motorcycle club cut standing next to us and he looked SO much like Jax from SoA, except with short hair and a baseball cap. But it was crazy how much his face and facial hair looked like his. All this time I said there's no way any bikers exist that look as good as Charlie Hunnam. I was wrong.

Anyway, I'm off for real this time. I'm running late now!

How cool, First day of school for Silas (Yay!! How'd he like it?) and a SoA sighting. Fantastic so far :)

message 2536: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I'm thinking about your mom, Stacia. I hope you find out about her lymph nodes soon.

I had one of those days that was free and clear this morning but them all kinds of stuff happened all of a sudden. So I'm not that far into Tell the Wolves. It's also Back to school night & another PTA meeting, we had one at 7:15am this morning - god know's why? Yikes man! I had to get Garrett from Kindergarten, he fell while on the monkey bars and hit his head.

Hopefully, things have slowed now that both kids are home and I can read. lol!

message 2537: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Covet is up on Netgalley for those who might want to grab it!!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I got mine from Edelweiss already but NG is usually an easier grab these days, so that's nice they got it too.

Since I only had a few chapters left, I finished The Heiress Effect (Brothers Sinister, #2) by Courtney Milan and it was such a fun book. I didn't expect it to be so unique with the humor situation (it wasn't from banter this time). I can't believe how much I liked this book, considering I didn't like the first book in the series. If anyone is considering it, you could easily skip book 1 and not have missed anything.

And now I will have a few free moments in a little while to finally dig in to Tell the Wolves I'm Home.

For those who didn't see it in the Linda Howard topic, we'll be doing a buddy read of Death Angel by Linda Howard on Monday August 26th in that topic. Anyone who wants to read along and discuss is welcome to join us.

message 2539: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) The Force of Wind (Elemental Mysteries, #3) by Elizabeth Hunter didn't really grab me but Taking Him Down by Meg Maguire was shivery sexy fun - so thanks, Regina!

Leea | 1437 comments Thanks for the link Kay... yay!!

message 2543: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Regina, how's shooting scars? I'm dying to start it but I have to finish Tell the Wolves and Wicked Beat first.

message 2544: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I am enjoying it. I don't think I will buy into Javier, but I could be wrong. It was a hard genre shift from mystery/literary fiction to this so I just need to adjust. I also feel like when I have a novel so built up I am disappointed - I need to let go of expectations. I always do that. So I am trying to go in with a clean slate.

message 2545: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments It's hard to switch genres... Did you finish The Cuckoo's Calling (Cormoran Strike, #1) by Robert Galbraith ? What did you think?

It's hard not to build a book up when you loved the first one. Especially if there's a significant amount of time between publication dates.

message 2547: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Angie I guess that is very true!

Leea, I loved it. I want to listen to it again right now. I love how Rowling writes. I can see how this book would have broader appeal than Casual Vacancy, which I do think only fans of UK literacy fiction would enjoy -- which I am . Cuckoo's Calling is written in the same beautiful way, great character development -- but it has lightness and humor too. And there is a likable main character to become attached to. I think that readers who like crime fiction or literary fiction would enjoy this book. I heard from DG that the audio is really well done. I am tempted to listen to it right now.

message 2548: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments I just started Bitter Night and The Hero...seems Robyn Carr is rehashing some of the plots from Virgin River. Shelter Mountain (book 3 Virgin River) was about a young woman and her child on the run from her violent and abusive husband. The Hero (book 3 Thunder Point) is about a young woman and her child on the run from a religious cult.

Bitter Night (Horngate Witches, #1) by Diana Pharaoh Francis The Hero (Thunder Point, #3) by Robyn Carr

message 2549: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Ian, is the Hero better than the last book? Just curious because this is coming up next for me and i'm a little worried.

Finished Tell the Wolves I'm Home by Carol Rifka Brunt and I loved it! Now i'm excited to read Wicked Beat (Sinners on Tour, #4) by Olivia Cunning

message 2550: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 159 comments Just finished Magic Rises (Kate Daniels #6) by Ilona Andrews . Very good book though it did have its eye-rolling moments and some annoying parts that I didn't particularly like.

Now I can move on to the Group book, Bitter Night (Horngate Witches, #1) by Diana Pharaoh Francis !
