Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments ok sorry :(

message 102: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments It's ok, Manuela. No offense taken.

As for my answer to my other question. I say I enjoy pets and kids in a romance story. Both humanize it for me a bit more than the main couple saying I love you prematurely or how hot each other is all the time. The kids and pets make the story equal parts more interesting, humbling, and humorous at times. Pending on how the author writes them in though.

As I just hate when a author writes in that someone has young kids. But you see them for barely a scene then they are carted off to the oh so convenient sleep over, friends' house, family member's place and you barely get to see them save for a few scenes here and there. Or worse when you see them they are using super eloquent speech that doesn't even ring true for a typical 5 or 8 year old. I can imagine writing in little kid speech could get tedious for some. But at least try it out and make the kids sound real is my take.

And for pets, I love dogs, cats, birds, even the occasional gerbil or two. But really I hate seeing when a character has animals in his life. He/she is either a vet or they live on a ranch or something. And they have the tried and true horses that will be used for a romantic ride under the stars or something really convenient. Yet you never see a over excited terrier interrupting a picnic. Or a character being allergic to cat hair or something like that. I'd like to see a bit more of that at times. Just to remind the reader that these two characters aren't that perfect.

New Question of the Day: What is everyone doing for Spring break/ Easter Weekend?

message 103: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments I read a story of a heroine who was allergic to her hero as he was a catshifter. Was that a WH book? LOL still have to grin when I think of it, you got that hunk of a man and when you are with him you start to sneeze because he's got allergenes in his hair. hahahaha.
Easter weekend I will probably be at home reading, cleaning and do a bit of reading, hanging up in the internet, did I mention I might be reading the odd book here and there? :)

message 104: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Haha, yea I loved that about Susan and Ravyn. Was kind of cute.

And I'll likely be reading as well. Hard not to as we hardly ever do anything these days for the holidays. Other than a differently cooked dinner for the week. Beyond that, nada.

message 105: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments I'll most likely be working, reading, and getting things together for moving day

message 106: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Oh your moving Shari? Where to? Is it for work or just finding a new place?

message 107: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments I'm moving back to California. I go back and forth from Virginia to California every couple of years. I'm going back to California though because I finally got accepted into a massage therapy school that I've been wanting to go to

message 108: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Oh that is awesome. My neighbor's daughter and friend of the family moved out to Cali with her boyfriend for a while and took up massage school as well. Good luck. Sounds exciting. :)

message 109: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments :-) Thank you

message 110: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Your welcome. And here's hoping that you don't get any initial clients like this...

But more like this...

message 111: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments eewww and oha. where do you find those guys all the time?
Good luck with the move Shari. And happy Easter, to all of you.
I guess we haven't planned anything as hubby gets his roster from week to week and therefore we have no clue yet whether he is working or not. As much as it sucks it is good money and I have more time to read ;)
If the weather is ok we might go to the beach.

So it was a SK book. I thought so. I am loosing the overview a bit with the amount of books she's brought out and more so with so many more coming out later this year.

Wasn't the dog of Tabby responsible for Amanda getting abducted and handcuffed to Kyrian? Now if that is not an important role of a pet in a book!!!! ;)

OMG! For a dog responsible for jump starting a series of events that led to Kyrian-Amanda HEA, we haven't heard much from terminator.

message 114: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Lol, I'm sure you can find the type of guys that don't shave often around just about anywhere. The other sorts are models I guess. :P

Actually I think she said it was her roommate's dog, Terminator. But since that whole setting up Kyrian and Amanda situation. She dropped that roommate and was living with another one, Marla. But personally Tabby had a bird if I think from her and Val's book. Haven't heard much on that either.

message 115: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments yeah it is more if I am that hairy I wouldn't have pictures of me taken, but then vanity has different faces and if he has a good personality and is funny one might not care for the hair.
Turning to a werewolf might be an easier step too. ;)

message 116: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments I know I'm not America's top sexy, beautiful anything. But for sure I would have to help a guy like that wax. Just too much hair for anybody. Even with a great personality.

message 117: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments have you ever waxed your legs? that really hurts, now imagine to do that on your back in the sides and on your chest. No man should suffer that much and if he wanted to I definitively wouldn't want to watch (maybe if he really hurt me I would, hehehehe).

message 118: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments True it is painful. But where personal tastes are concerned I'm not real big on that much hair on a guy. If he isn't waxing or trimming it up or something. He could not get laid by me is all. I know it's a shallow thing to say. But I feel like keeping body hair, nails and the like trimmed and clean is just part of good hygiene. We are all well past caveman days to not take care of that kind of thing. And that actually gives me a idea for the new question of the day.

New question of the day:

What is your take on body landscaping. That is men keeping their facial, chest hair trimmed or all natural. Same for eye brows for men and women. What do you think?

message 119: by Robbie (last edited Mar 15, 2013 10:54PM) (new)

Robbie Thornton (buttonbrite) | 36 comments I'm probably not the best person to answer this, but I'll give it a whirl. Personally, I don't mind a reasonable amount of chest hair, and probably just wouldn't be attracted to a man who had a disgusting amount of body hair. On the other hand, I would worry about the vanity of a man who subjected himself to waxing purely for the sake of his looks. I would feel differently if he had to wax for his job...say if he were a professional swimmer, for instance, or if he were a man with the aforementioned "disgusting" amount of body hair and just wanted to look normal.

A man trimming his facial hair is basically good grooming to me. A man waxing his chest is, to me, a matter of choice. My hubby keeps his mustache trimmed, but he'd probably freak if I asked him to wax his chest. He has a fairly normal (for a Caucasian male)amount of body hair, and I think it looks fine.

I won't touch the "eyebrow" thing since I don't pluck mine. When I pluck, I get severe swelling in the eye/brow/forhead area. I might be less hairy, but I look like Quasimodo when I try, so consequently, I quit trying.

message 120: by Arianne (new)

Arianne (biatchwithwifi) | 127 comments my take on this is that, these things should be done in moderation. i personally won't mind if a man grows scruffy beard but when you look older than papa smurf because of it, i say that's too much. in the same vein, trimming some unwanted body hair is okay.

message 121: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments I honestly wouldn't mind if the guy had a normal amount of body hair. I'm not out for the whole Ken doll persona. And do love a good bit of scruff and 5'o clock shadow going on. But it's when the hair is so excessive I can't see past it. Not to say I would drop the guy as a friend or anything. But couldn't really progress into something too serious either cause I'd eventually have to touch him. And all that hair is going to make me cringe and think of the furry under belly of a rat(I'm weird like that I know).

As for myself. I try to keep myself as groomed as possible. I can't help the stray cow licks or alfalfa hairdo type of moments. But in general I like to try and keep my brows and even my leg hair tamed if I can. Although I agree with you Arianne. Moderation is key in all things for sure. But to not put a little effort in at all is what causes me to give some folks the hairy eye ball, lol.

message 122: by Robbie (new)

Robbie Thornton (buttonbrite) | 36 comments Oh..hadn't even thought about the 5 o'clock shadow Dhfan4life. Yummy yummy.

message 123: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Indeed. Can't forget the good stuff Robbie. ;)

New Question of the day: You're on a desert island. Alone. Can only bring 3 items, one useless item just because you like it, and one other person. What are your items, who is the other person, and with these items and person do you think you will survive island life or no?

message 124: by Robbie (new)

Robbie Thornton (buttonbrite) | 36 comments The other person: MacGyver
Useless item: My stuffed sheep Matilda
2 other items: My spinning wheel and a fish hook

Would I survive? Well of course, I've got McGyver :) He'd figure out how to build a cruise ship from coconut shells or something.....

message 125: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments HAHA, I love it. Someone else that knows and remembers the great MacGyver. He was a born plan for sure.

message 126: by Manuela (last edited Mar 17, 2013 01:54AM) (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments Robbie, that is so cool. Hadn't thought of that!!! LOL

other person: my favourite book character reincarnated in a human person believing I am his soul mate

useless item: a big book - my other person could read to me from it when we are not doing grown up stuff
2 other items: a working stargate, sunscreen SPF 60+

Would I survive? Maybe not for long but I would have the best time of my life before I go ;)

message 127: by Robbie (new)

Robbie Thornton (buttonbrite) | 36 comments Dhfan4life wrote: "HAHA, I love it. Someone else that knows and remembers the great MacGyver. He was a born plan for sure."

I not only remember the great MacGyver, I even remember when Richard Dean Anderson was a soap opera star. I had a mad crush on him as a teenager, and for this old girl, he's still hot! Hot and full of ideas! What could be better?

message 128: by Robbie (new)

Robbie Thornton (buttonbrite) | 36 comments Ha ha Manuela, if you didn't survive, you'd go out with a "bang" :) But with that Stargate, you could go anywhere, now couldn't you??? LOL

message 129: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments yeah Robbie I could, but haven't you watched Stargate with Richard Dean Anderson? *swooon* they usually end up dead or shot at or captured or whatever. Loved him as MacGyver and still "have" to watch his show as hubby loves it and even if it is re-runs and are on at 2:30am, still quite good.

message 130: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments I didn't know he was a soaps star too. That had to be pretty awesome. And yes his MacGyver show was the bomb! Haha, used to love watching him with my grandma when she was a live. It was his show, Knight Rider and this other show with a father-son cop team.

Alrighty my other person would have to be that Bizzare Foods guy Andrew Zimmerman. I'm usually grossed out by all the strange stuff he eats in other countries and even here in the U.S. But that dude is a crazy survivor for sure. And would know what animals and stuff to eat to survive for a while.

My necessary items would be a tent as I sooo have no girl scout skills whatsoever to make my own shelter.

Flare Gun. I've never built a fire either in my life. So first chance I see any sort of helicopter flying over head. I'm shooting that bad boy off.

Totally useless item would have to be my journal. As crazy as that sounds. I would so want to document everything while I was on the island. From how I got there to what happened and the like. As it would be some kind of crazy miracle for me to be in such a situation in the first place and be one of my biggest adventures lol.

message 131: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments New Question of the day: What is your dream job? And have you ever gotten a chance to do it? Get close to trying it? Or is it just a fantasy gig you think would be cool to try?

message 132: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments lol my co worker asked me this question the other day. When he first started working with me (last month) to get to know each other we took turns asking questions about one another.

Ok this is what I told him. Everybody knows I'm a bookworm. I love books the way some women love shoes and some guys love football. I'll even go so far to say its a bit of an addiction but I don't care because they make me happy. I'd love to own a bookstore but not just with any kind of book. I want books that are resourceful, informative, historical books about ancient civilizations and people, belief systems, and mythologies. Some of them common and some rare. I'd travel the world for these books just to have them in my store. The idea of it sounds exciting to me but sad cause it is a fantasy. To make something like that happen would require a lot of schooling and a lot of money.

message 133: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (rie10) | 166 comments Dream job...probably something that is creativity based. I love Scrapbooking (more digital now than traditional) and would love to learn more about computer graphics. This would be a fantasy gig since the school needed is not affordable. :-(

message 134: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Great dream jobs peeps. I used to want to be an author of a book for every genre. Very wishful thinking on my part. But hey maybe one day I can publish a few short stories or something.

New Question of the day: What do you think of our new banner?

message 135: by Arianne (last edited Mar 19, 2013 10:03PM) (new)

Arianne (biatchwithwifi) | 127 comments when did you put the new banner up? i mostly depend on the notifications and not go through the main page so i'm seeing it just now.
The banner's pretty. i like word clouds and i've been meaning to do word cloud art. The first word that registered to me when i saw the banner was "Nick".
Who should we thank for this lovely art?

message 136: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Put it up just a few minutes ago. So you are the first to see and comment on it. Aside from moiself and the creator of course. :) And can most definitely give your thanks to Diane. She also created the fan art of Artie in the fan art thread as well.

message 137: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments Cool, I like it. I am the same as Arianne I go through the notifications. But I had a looksie and it is great. Thank you very much Diane.

message 138: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (rie10) | 166 comments Same as the others with me...had to backtrack to see it. We are all spoiled by the notifications. It is great and very well done! Wish i knew how to do that.

message 139: by Arianne (new)

Arianne (biatchwithwifi) | 127 comments BIG thanks to Diane for the awesome banner! (and i see she's also from the Philippines)

@Valerie - i think there are online programs where you can input words and then generate a word cloud for you. there's also photoshop if you want more options.

message 140: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Glad you guys like it. I had some other ideas. But given the space and size of the banner it would have cut off everything else. But Diane came up with an awesome idea with the official Kenyon symbol and the pic of her. Very awesome.

message 141: by Valerie (last edited Mar 20, 2013 08:19AM) (new)

Thanks for the info! Now, i just need full internet access. Have limitations that prevent me from doing much at home. Work is severly limited (for good reasons...)
And totally off topic but i am sure you will enjoy..... Sweet Home Alabama has been ruined for me. Anytime it comes on the radio, TV, pandora, wherever I usually start laughing. Well, that is after doing a quick look behind me. Soo many people just don't get it. I know i am not alone...(i hope)

message 142: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 1747 comments Love the banner. It was really well done and very creative. Way to go to the person (Diane, I think?) who made it!

message 143: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Banner is very cool. Love it

message 144: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Glad everyone likes the new Banner. :) I think Diane said too the words are the names of all the fanfic sites that do a lot of Kenyon fanfic stories. Which is even cooler. And yep, I smile thinking about Ash when I hear Sweet Home Alabama.

New question of the day: What is the one book or maybe two, that you have read and has changed your life the most?

message 145: by Robbie (new)

Robbie Thornton (buttonbrite) | 36 comments I'll have to say "The Wizard of Oz", since that's the book that really kicked off my love of reading. I think I was 7 or 8 when I read it.

message 146: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments I am comming from a family of readers, since I was a little kid I had my own books. I think Black Beauty and the Count of Monte Christo are my life changing reads. After Black Beauty I sucked in all the horse books I could get a hold of and I still have lots of horse books (I am a city girl but I can dream, lol) in lieu of the real horse.
The count of MC got me into adventure, fantasy and romance, because it has a bit of everything. And it was the first big, I mean BIG novel I read.

message 147: by Aarati (new)

Aarati | 145 comments I am a die-hard romantic and I guess that's because I started of with books like "The Frog Prince", "Cinderella" and "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves". Every time my mom used to buy me one such book, I used to light up like a Christmas tree. Even today I am the same. Just the thought of holding a book in my hands is heaven.

message 148: by Arianne (new)

Arianne (biatchwithwifi) | 127 comments A book by Johannah Lindsey
Gentle Rogue by Johanna Lindsey
It's the first book that I've bought with my own money. Before, all books I've read were either borrowed or gifted to me. I remember how I told myself that this will be the first of the many books that I will fill my personal collection.

message 149: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 1747 comments The last book to do that was Origins.

message 150: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Those all are such great books you guys. I really have to say I'm surprised at myself and have no clue what book(s) have changed my life the most. Aside from the Velveteen Rabbit when I was a kid and it really got me into liking fantasy books and stories with heart.

New question of the day: Not original as I sort of used it in the either or game. But I'm curious to know. If given a situation, where your house is burning down. What are the top 5 possessions you would grab to save.
