Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments 1. - my purse as I have ID and sometimes money in it.
2. - I used to say my cat Fluser but he has passed away, if I had time I would take his urn
3. - I am not sure if I would take books as I would probably not be able to choose and die in the fire, but I would take my stuffed toy donkey as he has been with me since early childhood
4. - my laptop as it has all my kindle books stored and a few other important things that I may need further down the track
5. - my jewelry bag as it contains my parents wedding rings (mom gave them to me after my dad passed away)

Maybe you just haven't found that one book yet is all.

My favorite book (only one since the rest can be replaced), whatever bag that contains all of my bank cards and i.d., laptop, my writings, and either my camera or external hard drive.

message 153: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Possibly so.

I'll also join the camp of grabbing my I.D. and wallet type of stuff. My lap top, Mr. Grey my childhood stuffed rabbit. Gracie of course and lastly this huge book of Grimm's fairy tales my dad's mom gave me for one of my bday's or Christmas. She rarely gave me gifts at all as we didn't have that kind of grandparent/child relationship. But when she gave me that, I've cherished it since forever. So every other book can be replaced but that one is a true gem.

New question: Name 3 items that you would never buy at a garage sale or used online?

message 154: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments electrical devices (that cannot be checked right there and then)

animals

food

message 155: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Good ones Manuela. I would have to say clothes, toys (sexy or even regular kinds as you just never know between the time someone bought the item and the time you are re-buying the item if it has been recalled or not properly cleaned. So no spreading around of germs), and lastly I would say just good condition video games. I'm a gamer as well as a reader and I like a quality running game. So I would hate to buy someone's version of a "good" game only to come to find out there are tons of scratches or issues in the system they didn't even mention. Not only that but not everyone has the same definition of "good" use in the first place.

New question: What is one other planet that you wish you could explore if it was found to be as habitable/livable as Earth? Free of charge too to visit.

message 156: by Arianne (new)

Arianne (biatchwithwifi) | 127 comments Well, things are looking pretty promising for mars. I wouldn't be surprised if we have a community of settlers there in the next hundred of years. If I can choose a fictitious planet, i'd choose gallifrey.

message 157: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (last edited Mar 24, 2013 08:08AM) (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments And where is gallifrey hailing from Arianne? What's it like? Whose there? And are there 10% less annoying peeps than on Earth? :D

message 158: by Arianne (new)

Arianne (biatchwithwifi) | 127 comments Sorry for going nerdy on you guys. *sheepish smile.
I'm a big Doctor Who fan. It's the longest running british sci-fi tv program.
Gallifrey is the planet of the Time Lords, beings who are masters of time and space.

message 159: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments No worries Arianne. I think most others might know that show as well. I have another friend that knows it too. So through him I know the name and a partial episode. But time travel although pretty cool has not really intrigued me enough to watch it, unfortunately.

As for me, I would love to visit Neptune or Venus. Something about the name of Neptune has always interested me. And I think when I was younger and we used to have a big book of useless facts. It said that Neptune was the only other planet that had water on it like earth I think. But still no viable breathing capacity for humans and the gravity is way off for us to even live there. So would be very interesting to see how that would pain out. And well Venus cause they have that old saying "Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus", well I would like to see what is so special about Venus that ladies are hypothetically attached to this planet.

New question of the day: Think about all the alpha male or even female characters you have read about in various genres. Then imagine your favorites. Faces, names, looks, etc. Now picture them being thrown into a time machine and made to go back in time and re-live YOUR high school experience. So the question is, who are these new "teenaged students" and would they survive? What cliques you think they would be a part of? Or would they be their typical loner self? What clubs and activities could you see them joining? And lastly would they go to prom or hold a anti-prom bash? Speak on it. :)

So glad to see I am not alone in my love of the Doctor! Too bad I don't have cable and can't watch the current episodes (or when it comes back 3/30).

message 161: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments I can not really relate to that question as my school time (high school and grammer school) was mainly average and I did not belong anywhere at all. I believe the characters that they are when we get to know them varies from what they would have been as kids and teens. Some of my favs had a good childhood, some of them didn't, but whatever happened they have been shaped by it.

message 162: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments My experience at school was pretty average as well Manuela. But I still could see Kyrian and Julian being part of the jocks/preppies. As well as enjoying a shop class or two. As both of their childhoods, albeit not perfect, gave them outlets to being both smart, capable with their bodies, and rather sociable individuals. Just all in how one chooses to look at it.

New question and likely the most obvious one ever: Who all is rushing out to buy Lover At Last today?

I'll start off by answering. And saying I just ordered my copy from Walmart online. Free shipping and just $16.43 Kind of a steal for what they wanted it if I tried to pick it up at the store personally.

message 163: by Manuela (last edited Mar 26, 2013 03:52AM) (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments I hope my library department will do. I am still waiting LOL

I also hope I am pretty much on top of the waiting line. The book I am reading right now is the last before I get back into the BDB books yay.

message 164: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments I guess it is safe to assume everyone is off chugging down Lover at Last. My copy is on it's way. So I will scoot along to the new question of the day.

New question of the day: What is the craziest thing you've done to catch a item on sale?

LOL, you're probably right!

Wait years for a major sale, rofl.

I am probably one of the only ones not doing that. I have actually not read any of the books in that series (or by that author i think..) Aside from Kenyon and one other author, most of my books are more sci-fi / Fantasy.

I don't think its that crazy but i bought something twice and returned one becuase i found it on sale. Also drove a decent way to get something on sale once. I will wait a year or so to get a book (or movie) I really want to read when the price usually goes down.

message 167: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments It's a really good series Valerie.

I'm with you on the wait for years to get something on sale. Although lately I have barely been able to wait for anything, lol.

That is a clever approach buying two Valerie. I'd never considered doing that before. But hey nothing wrong with that and you get your money back if you don't wait too long on taking the other item back.

Craziest thing I've done was tracking down an item from store to store to find it in stock and then try and get it shipped to my local store and even considered sharing gift card numbers over the phone if necessary. But thankfully didn't need to go that route and it came into stock, lol.

New Question: If you had the opportunity to plan an amazing getaway where would you go and what would you do? (Aside from reading that is. ;)

message 168: by Manuela (last edited Mar 28, 2013 03:54AM) (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments Lake Louise in Canada combined with a train ride on the Rocky Mountaineer. I would most definitively try to meet all the people on board of the train. I would take lots of pics, I am not sure if I would read but I would maybe take a book with me. I love to meet new people. Sometimes I develope friendships that last for years.

I am a "sale" person through and through. I love to get books for cheaper. Just bought Slave to Sensation Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling, #1) by Nalini Singh for $4. The weirdest thing I have done is waiting for hours at a store for a delivery of goods I wanted to purchase. (A disney dvd and Elton John's version of "Candle in the Wind" to honour Princess Diana).

message 169: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (rie10) | 166 comments It would definatly be a trip to the UK. I have always wanted to go there. I LOVE castles and they have so many. Can't forget Stonehedge and all the ancient gothic cathedrals. Oh the picture fun! I would also have to build in a few days for the Doctor Who experience and touring some of the locations. Not sure if i would have anyone to go with...worst case i would have my nice ask her husband to get me a touring buddy from his friends (he is from England).

Ok, so i am ready to go now....anyone want to pay? LOL

message 170: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 1747 comments Backpack and explore the different cultures of either Russia or Thailand. Many more on that list tho, lol e.e.

LOL, grab a bunch of ppl from the SK group and pray we all fall into a pile of cash XD.

message 172: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Great trips ladies. At the most I would love to do a trip around the U.S. and then do Ireland, England, and maybe even Italy. Nothing like soaking up the culture and different foods. Save for that blood sausage stuff from England.

New question: If you could meet one famous/influential person dead or alive who would it be and why? Also what would you ask them if you could?

message 173: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments probably Napoleon (have in mind I have a get out of jail card -just in case) and ask him why he threw half of Europe into a war to gain exactly what?

message 174: by Arianne (new)

Arianne (biatchwithwifi) | 127 comments I thought of dead influential people and there were two who I really want to meet. Homer and Shakespeare.
I'd ask Homer if the Trojan war actually happened;Shakespeare, i'd ask if he could write me a sonnet.

message 175: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Great selections Manuela and Arianne. I'd definitely be curious about the whole Trojan war thing as well. I think I would also be interested in meeting General Custer, Pocahontas, and Benedict Arnold. I guess I would like to meet and talk with histories traitors or folks that made big historical mistakes. Cause we know how folks responded to things after the fact. But maybe there is a whole other perspective when they were in the heat of the moment that led them to make the choices they did at the time.

New question: Who is seeing the Host movie?

message 176: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (rie10) | 166 comments Sorry but that movie does not look that interesting to me. I am looking forward to the Wolverine movie, iron man 3, and a few others that are more comic and sci-fi.

message 177: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 1747 comments I want to see it but I doubt I'll go to the movie theater to watch it.

message 178: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Oh? There is going to be a new wolverine movie? I haven't heard anything about that. Do tell Valerie. And I thought The Host was sci-fiesque with the aliens taking over or something. Could be mistaken. Have heard that it could be the next big one for Stephanie Meyers.

I haven't read it or had any plans to see it. Didn't seem that intriguing to me either.

New question: Do you believe in reincarnation?

message 179: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments As far as The Host no I'm not interested in that but yes I'm looking forward to Wolverine and all the other marvel movie releases this. Gotta include Thor in that as well latet this year

And yes I do believe in reincarnation especially when talking to kids. Some are way too clever and wise for the ages. Some of them seem to handle a crisis better than some adults. Its very interesting

message 180: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments No host, still try to wrap up the twilight movies (have to catch hubby in a benevolent mood). Saw a trailer on the internet about the new Wolverine so yeah, that's one I like to see.

Yes I do believe in reincarnation. I am far too scared to believe that this was all we have to be and do the things we are supposed to do. I hope with all my heart that there will be something after death. I do believe in a different kind of things because my hubby tells me that there is darkness and no light where he went when he was clinicly dead.

message 181: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments I too am of the belief that there is a possibility of reincarnation for us all. After all, there is so much more to learn and experience. And I think it takes way more than one life time to get it all in.

And I'm going to have to find this Wolverine trailer you guys are talking about. He is one of my fave X-men. And I have still yet to see anything about it.

New Question: What are some tips that you could provide for curing the worst hair day ever?

message 182: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments don't go outside, give it a good brush, use a hoody or a scarf, vail, hat etc.
don't care what others think and smile when they look at you.

message 183: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Yeah I normally sweep my hair up into a clip since its too short for a ponytail or I braid it and wear a cute scarf as a headband and go on with my day. As for as product goes I only use coconut oil or a light olive oil sheen. I'm not really the fussy type but if Im having a don king hair moment I take my ass to the hair salon. Lol

message 184: by Arianne (new)

Arianne (biatchwithwifi) | 127 comments I'd like to thank my mom and dad for good genes. I don't think I've had a bad hair day ever.

message 185: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Great tips ladies. Mine are pretty simple as well. Slap a hat or scare over it. Pony tail it up and out of the way. Or if it truly is a bad hair day. I say go with trying a whole new hair cut. And if all else fails do like Manuela suggested and don't leave the house, haha.

New Question: What are your thoughts on Amazon and GR becoming partners?

message 186: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments not so sure about that...

message 187: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (rie10) | 166 comments Did knot know they were. hmm...not sure.(GR is goodreads, right?)

message 188: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Yep, Good Reads. I've only seen a notice in passing saying that Amazon had joined the team a few days ago. And in one of my other groups someone was speculating about it. I didn't even know they had any of this in the works.

message 189: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 1747 comments I didn't even know they were becoming partners o_o. If it works out good then that's great but with other recent companies who have partnered I didn't like it. Software wise that is. So I don't really use em as much anymore.

message 190: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Diane (of the awesome banner and fan art and my buddy :) )were talking about it as well and she said some peeps in other groups she is in have pointed this out about it so far:

By posting any User Content on the Service, you expressly grant, and you represent and warrant that you have a right to grant, to Goodreads a royalty-free, sublicensable, transferable, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive, worldwide license to use, reproduce, modify, publish, list information regarding, edit, translate, distribute, publicly perform, publicly display, and make derivative works of all such User Content and your name, voice, and/or likeness as contained in your User Content, in whole or in part, and in any form, media or technology, whether now known or hereafter developed, and to grant and authorize sublicenses of the foregoing for any purpose at the sole discretion of Goodreads.

Not sure if this is under a new policy or not. I'll ask her. But after reading it. It sounds like they might be able to use our information without our permission maybe now do to this Amazon partnership going on. I hope not. I mean I don't have anything to hide really but I still wouldn't like what I'm saying or pictures of myself on GR being used without my knowledge or permission. Could be mistaken though given how things are still too early to tell.

message 191: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 1747 comments Woah. Yeah, I hope not either. If that's what it is then I'd rather use a site similar to goodreads tbh. But it would suck switching ._. so idk. Same here. Hopefully there will be a notice of that privacy issue and w/e else before everything is really put into place.

message 192: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Fingers crossed they don't do something like that. Wish someone would actually make a law about stuff like this. Cause it is ridiculous how online businesses seem to get away with this sort of thing in general.

message 193: by Jennifer (last edited Apr 03, 2013 08:51AM) (new)

Jennifer | 1747 comments Same here, lol. I know right. It gets really annoying when they do this. I don't even use facebook like I used to because their privacy stuff has become not so private anymore.

I found this article on the Amazon/GoodReads thing: http://www.sfchronicle.com/technology...

I e-mailed the writer of the article a response to their article.

Found this online if anyone is interested...

Goodreads has risen farther and faster than its competitors, LibraryThing and Shelfari, except by one measure: Amazon bought Shelfari. This happened over three years ago, and Amazon has yet to do much with Shelfari. It launched Kindle Profiles last year without a Shelfari in sight. But to the extent that Amazon has invested in a social network for readers, it and Goodreads are competitors.

But at the end of the day, Amazon is a retailer and Goodreads is not. Goodreads built its business on Amazon's product advertising API, so there was no problem on Amazon's end. That API required Goodreads to link books back to Amazon, so Amazon made money and Goodreads got a cut, as well as a wealth of images and data about its millions of books.

message 194: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Ohhh, thanks for finding this Jennifer. The more informed we are the better. And I didn't even know there was such a place as LibraryThing. That doesn't even sound like the thing to be doing lol.

message 195: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 1747 comments No problem. Haha. I've heard of it before but I don't remember if I ever actually checked it out or not. I have a Shelfari account but quit using it when I started using GoodReads more. The only thing that I like about Shelfari more than goodreads is the way your book inventory is listed. That's the only reason why I even used shelfari, lol.

message 196: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments I think I checked out shelfari one other time myself. But didn't have the vibe I'm usually into when using online sites so I left. Glad they had the one perk for ya though.

message 197: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 1747 comments I didn't actually use the rest of shelfari's website, rofl. only used it to keep track of what i had.

I posted the amazon/goodreads issue on tumblr. O_O wonder what ppl there will think.

message 198: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments This is going to show just how ignorant I am about social media. But what exactly is Tumblr? Is it like another version of Twitter?

message 199: by Jennifer (last edited Apr 03, 2013 09:35AM) (new)

Jennifer | 1747 comments I don't use Twitter so I can't say 100% for sure. To me tumblr is like a combination of Pinterest and Facebook without a lot of the annoying addons, etc. And you don't have to socialize with ppl if u dont want to so that's a plus, lol. I used to not be a fan of tumblr but Lexy got me to use it again and since we use it together its a lot of fun. I can pm u my tumblr page if ure interested in seeing what exactly tumblr is.

Oh and I like tumblr because I don't have to look at a massive amount of ads and company profiles x.x

message 200: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments I see. So you post pictures and people comment on them? And sure, maybe get a better gist if I see your page. I truly don't know how to work stuff like that. It's all more my cousin's thing. He lives for electronic gadgets and different social sites like that. I'm the dinosaur that just likes yahoo messenger and GR lol.
