Valerie (rie10) | 166 comments Have not. Not sure if I would. I guess it would depend on when, where and who I was with. Knowing me likely would. Something that can't kill me and worst case I look goofy. So I guess yes, I would try.

message 402: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Were you speaking about the mechanical bull ride, Valerie? If you were I give you mad props for wanting to try it out. You and Manuela are definitely some courageous ones for sure. I can still envision myself flying off the thing even on a low setting lol. I'm just so blissfully uncoordinated that way.

New Question-

What is one of the best recipes/dishes you feel has really been a big hit with family or friends?

message 403: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments LOL I thought it was padded all around the e-bull??? As I said, drunk, more fun, more relaxed, not so much hurt when falling off!!!

I inherited some of my fav dishes from mom and her lentil soup finds lots of applause from my hubby.

message 404: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (rie10) | 166 comments yes, i was speaking of the mechanical bull. And I think it has to be padded all around the area to avoid lawsuits. My dream would be to get a ride in an F/A-18 or similar military jet so a mechanical bull is small in comparison. I would also love to take a ride in a NASCAR at full speed, just so you know how nuts i really am.

So far best recipe i got from my mom is Peanut Butter Bars. My friends have renamed it to Peanut Butter Crack (because of the addicting nature. Best part is it is so easy to make. In fact, i have to make a ton of it for my niece's wedding reception at the cottage at the end of August. If you can melt peanut butter, margarine & chocolate chips, mix some dry stuff together you can make this. Happy to share the recipe..if interested send me a message.

message 405: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 1747 comments my christmas cookies. they take two days to make x.x. lol, ironically, i'm not big on them but other ppl luv em.

message 406: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Ah so your a thrill seeker then Valerie. Rock on, I will say to the jet and even NASCAR stuff. If ever you try that stuff out, you totally have to come back and tell us how it went.

Oh those sound like great recipes ladies. I'll admit it, that I sooo don't cook. Think I will still hit you up for that Peanut Butter bar recipe, Valerie. My dad loves anything with peanut butter and chocolate. But I can make a major smoothie in the blender. Thick and frothy. Mixed berry is one of the best I do with almond milk. And also as of yesterday I have made up my own chocolate milk with dark chocolate hot cocoa mix, french vanilla ice cream and some milk. Really great stuff.

New Question- If you could be a entrepreneur or a inventor of a brand new life changing product, what would it be and who would it help or aid?

message 407: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Posting a early question of the day as I ahve to get up super early for a hair appointment. So will start off by saying that I'll be honest, I can really admire people that are great inventors or even entrepreneurs. But I've never had any inclination whatsoever to invent or be an entrepreneur to or for any particular ideas that I would put into actual realization anyway.

New Question- Guess who's coming to dinner? Or in other terms have you personally ever brought along a plus one to a dinner or an event your friends or family couldn't get along with or were surprised you brought with you?

message 408: by Manuela (last edited Jun 07, 2013 10:17PM) (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments We had always an open house. I used to bring my boyfriends home as mom's policy was better safe at home than somewhere out there in danger. One of my exes loved mom's cooking but when she wanted to drown some schnitzel in a lovely creme sauce he rescued one out of the frying pan, wiggleing his finger at her saying "How dare you drown a perfectly fine schnitzel in sauce?" You should have seen mom's face LOL.

message 409: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 1747 comments not to my knowledge, rofl

message 410: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Oh no. Is that guy still with the living, Manuela? lol. Cause I know for sure that you can't mess with a mom that has slaved over a hot stove.

I too would have thought not to my knowledge til I brought a friend home back in the day. And I guess do to the girl and her mom not having secure housing and enough food. She was really woofing down some snacks or something momz had put on the table for us as we did homework. And yea my mom was definitely shocked by how much she was eating without pausing. And then when the girl's mom came over, my mom was so shocked that she talked to the mom to see what was going on. And wound up helping them find a better place to live and became friends with the girl's mom too. Even though the girl and I didn't stay friends for much longer cause she turned rather bitchie and not the kind of person I wanted to be around any longer.

New Question- What book would you NEVER want to be caught reading in pubic?

message 411: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments Yes, Dhfan he is still alive and kicking. He seperated from his wife last year (mind you, I didn't know he was married till we met again on fb) and we are still friends (just had lost sight for a while). When mom gets the blues because I am too far away she mentions him. I think she was pretty fond of him when we were together. I have most of the men I have been with still in my heart, some more, some less. They are a part of me, who I am, who I have become. Being friends with exes is not easy and doesn't work in most cases, especially when your spouse is not understanding. I have it pretty easy. I am living on the other end of the world now and hubby therefore is not worried too much. May be different when we'll going home for vacation in December (it is planned at least).
Too bad that it did not work out with your friend but it sounds like she had her own demons to struggle with.

QotD: I don't know, porn?!? Allthough half of the love novels can qualify as that nowadays. I think that's why someone invented the kindle. You can read whatever you like and noone's the wiser. ;o)
I still take books to the medical centre. It is a very long wait there all the time.
I am not sure if hubby caught on to me reading m/m. I try not to check in certain threads when he is at home or I make sure he can't see what I am watching. He does have access to my laptop though and somewhere in my little heart I want him to find out, I am just a chicken to tell him myself. :(

message 412: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (rie10) | 166 comments May be silly but some of the other romance novels. I have always complained about the porn that is romance novels. Also, some of the books I enjoy are actually teen books. Usually find out after but luckily most are on kindle.

message 413: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments I was joking Manuela on the live and kicking part of things. I just know my mom can definitely give you the evil eye when you tell her how to change up her meal. I hear what you are saying about the exes and all that. Glad your hubs can be understanding about it. Yea, I guess that friend did. I haven't heard from her since really out of all these years.

As for the second question of the day. I was thinking something along the line of Confessions of a Guidette by Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi or Kardashian Konfidential by Kourtney Kardashian given how these particular reality princesses seem to be so into being famous at all cost that they don't always care how they go about achieving it at times. So they tend to have a rep for being rather infamous at times than just famous and aren't real high up on most peeps respect meter. So for me, I know for myself I would never want be caught in public seriously reading about them. I get everyone has a tale to tell. But I feel when you don't really try to earn your success either where fame is concerned or in any other arena through hard work and just gain it through sex tapes or whatever. Then it not only means you are seeking loop holes to get where you want to go. But you are also willing to sell a bit of your soul for success and attention. And to read either of these books in public or even private just promotes that ideal to me.

New Question of the day- What's your favorite childhood game to play? Either board game? Card game? Tag, Jacks, pick up sticks or something else entirely?

message 414: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments Omg, I wouldn't touch these books unless someone puts a gun against my head. You would not catch me with those, neither in public or at home. LOL
But you are right, I have my goodreads posts on fb set to private as I don't want people to know what I read. I am talking about some of the m/m books that have rude titles and some of the erotica as well. Noone's business.

Monopoly for a boardgame
Romme as card game
a tamer kind of dodge ball as a ball game

message 415: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Ya know I honestly don't even like those M/M stories or even Erotica books with blatant titles. I mean sure I watch porn as another hobby aside from reading hot books. And not ashamed of doing either. But I'm honestly NOT into blatantly titled or book covers. I like a bit of subtle seduction with my M/M or erotica stories. If you giving it all away in the title or cover I'm not interested and then yea, wouldn't want to be caught with a book like that either. As it's nothing but blatant sexual content right off the bat. And given that most sexual content arouses me. I don't wish to be considered the creeper being aroused by sexually explicit material in public lol.

Nice, I was a bit of a Monopoly/Pay Day kind of gal myself. I have also enjoyed Goldfish, Crazy Apes, and UNO for card games. As for other games used to like a bit of tether ball, 4 square, kick ball, and tag. Back during the days when I didn't care about how uncoordinated I was to play a game lol.

Never heard of Romme, how do you play, Manuela?

New Question of the day- What is the first thing you do when you come in from a long hard day of work?

message 416: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments Used the German spelling (silly me) Rummy it is!!!

Now that I have been adopted again by a stray cat, feeding it ~grin~
but mainly getting changed, if I am not going for a walk with the dogs (something sporty then), I get into my nighty/pj (it's like a day suit jumper and pants) or jogging combi and get onto the couch with my laptop. Should give my lappy a nickname!!!

message 417: by Tara (new)

Tara (amiel) | 36 comments Average day goes something like this: Give the cats a cuddle (they're needy that way) get changed and take the dog for a run (I run... she trots and makes me feel like I'm very slow -- which I am...).

Hard day: Tell hubby to take dog for a run. Glass of wine. Bath with bubbles. Good Book. :P

message 418: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Cool shower cause they relax me, put my phone on silent because I most likely don't want to bothered with (unless its my crazy man because he'll have me laughing and smiling that hard day away), and go back and forth between reading and watching a horror movie until I pass out

message 419: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Great ways to relax from a hard day. No work for me at the present to come in from personally at the moment. But after doing plenty of house work, I definitely love to get a hot bath, one of my favorite foods, comfy jammies and one of my favorite shows or books to chill out with.

New Question- What's the most number of times have YOU watched the Notebook?

message 420: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments 1/2. I never wanted to see the movie and I seen it by mistake when it was on USA but it was the very end. I don't like romance movies like that

message 421: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments zero - the Notebook

10 - Gladiator
4 - Rambo
1 - Titanic

message 422: by Tara (new)

Tara (amiel) | 36 comments I think once or maybe twice. I like movies and I'll watch almost anything, but it's not the kind of thing I watch over and over. Now... the BBC Persuasion adaptation -- LOTS so many I couldn't give a number.

message 423: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments Hahahaha Tara, I watched the BBC Pride & Prejudice lots of times. They make great series and movies at the BBC!!

message 425: by Arianne (new)

Arianne (biatchwithwifi) | 127 comments i think i've seen titanic over 10 times.

message 426: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments I know a few people who did, but it doesn't matter how often you watch it, the b....y ship still sinks in the end. :(

message 427: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Wow ladies. I guess the BBC is the place to be on various versions of shows. I so have no clue what channel that even is. I've only slightly seen a part of the Notebook once before moving on to finding something else. I'm with Shari though it is just not my kind of movie. However I have seen Titanic plenty of times. May be morbid to say but when the guy hits the propeller I chuckle every time for sure. And I've never seen the Pride and the Prejudice. I'm not too big on the classics either in books or movie/TV format.

New Question- Alrighty, everyone. Not sure how many of you guys read my broadcast, the one before the blank one, lol. But in short I'm considering on adding in a new mod to help me keep things organized around here. Her name is Carlena.

I think a few of you have welcomed her to the group. But I've been chit-chatting with her a few days and asking her for her thoughts on being a mod. She is up for it. But I felt it best before she is officially mod, I thought I would have her swing around some of our popular chat spots here and get to know people and for you guys to get to know her.

So keeping with that goal, I'm opening the new question to being a chance for you guys to chat with Carlena and get to know her and ask her about herself and sharing your thoughts on her being a mod.

message 428: by Carlena, Pumpkin Pie/Care Bear (new)

Carlena | 1753 comments Also feel free to message me! I have goodreads on my phone and can generally respond within an hour or two (Depending on if I am engrossed in a book or movie ^_^ or sleeping of course lol)

message 429: by Harry (new)

Harry | 95 comments @Dhfan for ur question I can't say I met her yet but if judge of character is base on anything I trust ur judgement. So I say go ahead. I am sure she will make a great mod here.

message 430: by PepperP0t (new)

PepperP0t | 180 comments Hi Carlena hope you enjoy the new challenge. we're low maintenance (*snicker*)

message 431: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments hehe speak for yourself Pat. I'm hell on wheels :-P

message 432: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Hi Carlena! Have you read some of the other series by Kenyon or under her pseudonym Kinley Macgregor!?

message 433: by PepperP0t (new)

PepperP0t | 180 comments I am so gonna be you when I grow up Shari

message 434: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Come to the dark side Pat. I'll be waiting with cookies, hugs, and a set of bowie knives :-)

message 435: by Carlena, Pumpkin Pie/Care Bear (new)

Carlena | 1753 comments Shari, HECK YES! I loved sword or darkness! I love anything she does.

message 436: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Whelp since we both agree that Kenyon is amazing and she writes awesomeness. You've got my vote of confidence. :-)
Are you new to the site as well or just to the group!?

message 437: by Ally (new)

Ally | 325 comments Ooh, I've not read her other stuff, might have to give it a go with the massive thumbs up you ladys are giving them :)

message 438: by PepperP0t (new)

PepperP0t | 180 comments I'm just getting ready to start the league. I've only done dark hunter

message 439: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments The league is a cool series. Its a bit darker than DH

message 440: by Carlena, Pumpkin Pie/Care Bear (new)

Carlena | 1753 comments Lol shari! Why thank you! League is darker. I think that's why I love it so. It really goes to another place and I think she shows emotions in those books in their basic raw state.

message 441: by Carlena, Pumpkin Pie/Care Bear (new)

Carlena | 1753 comments New to the site and group, Shari. Joined last month. I had an account ages ago but was in college and didn't do much on it then I just forgot about it. Can't even remember the email I used. Lol. So pretty much I'm a newbie. But a quick learner.

message 442: by PepperP0t (new)

PepperP0t | 180 comments i'm looking forward to it.

message 443: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Yay, looks like everyone is getting acquainted around these parts. Good to see it. :) Also good to know the extra League info too. Will have to check em out. Even invites to the dark side. Which is always awesome. ;)

New Question- Roughly how many books you would say you have given two to three star ratings in the last year? And why?

message 444: by Carlena, Pumpkin Pie/Care Bear (new)

Carlena | 1753 comments I haven't given any 1 or 2 stars. If I don't like it I stop reading it. I guess I should though lol so people can read the review.

message 445: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (last edited Jun 13, 2013 09:26PM) (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments First time for everything Carlena. I have like too many 2 stars to count. But that is usually do to the concept of the book did not pan out, the author is going all over the place with the story, characters' attitudes are ridiculous, or my personal favorite TSTL (Too Stupid To Live). I'm not one that is always looking for a lot of realism in my reads but I do expect SOME common sense in the storyline/character's actions. Even in the writing at times. Don't through 5 randomly blended together scenes together and call it a chapter either. That as of late is really annoying me with some authors. And I can't really believe they are actually being published as the story doesn't have much flow at times when reading it.

Also thanks Carlena and Shari for getting in your partner picks in early too. :)

message 446: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (last edited Jun 13, 2013 09:41PM) (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments I was the same way Carlena. I had never given anything lower than a 3 but after a few months of being on the site, my rating average went from 4.6 something to under 4. And its mostly the things that Cherale stated. Also I've realized that just because a book is popular or it has high ratings doesnt necessarily mean its a good read, its just the fanbase is really overwhelming devoted to it. (ex. No offense to the fans but Twilight)

Welcomes. I'm too hyped to start :-)

message 447: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Yes, no kidding on the hype and fanbase of most books. That is why I actually steer clear of most books for some months to a few years. Let it die down then try the book and see what the hype is. And for a few I'm still like really?

message 448: by Carlena, Pumpkin Pie/Care Bear (new)

Carlena | 1753 comments Ya I never start a book during its hype, unless, of course, it's part of a series I am reading. I'm usually disappointed when I read those books: the hyped ones such as twilight and 50 shades. But I guess to each their own. I also have a problem reading a book when there are a lot of grammatical errors. I can handle a few, but more than a handful or two and I'm like "Did you even TRY to use spellcheck?" Lol.

I also think that the market is getting saturated with wanna be authors that got started with fanfic (don't get me wrong, I can get down on some fanfic). And a lot of these authors do the self publish way so they can get their book out ASAP instead of taking the time to have it edited and work on plot and flow. For me development is a big deal. And it's hard to read those books that are so obviously not seen too.

No prob DH. I'm super excited as well! I hope Cassy likes her picks! :)

message 449: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Thats one of the issues that I have with fanfic. You're taking your favorite authors stories and twisting/recreating them. You get a lot of feedback and try to rush to make a buck off it. Everyone thinks they can be an author now.

I try my best to stay away from books that are hugely popular. I get disappointed easily when they don't rise to the expectations that I've set.

message 450: by Ally (new)

Ally | 325 comments I was shocked when in the library the other day to see just how many books there were ok the shelf about vampires, gods and werewolves, in the romance genre. I think people have realised that its popular and quickly written things to fill a hole. What they don't realise is that it's not necessarily the genre we love, it's the writer and their characters.
I haven't rated anything on here yet but I can't imagine I would give much a 2....I used to read constantly so I had time to read things I didn't necessarily like but I've got a small child now so my reading time is severely limited so if I don't like a book now I stop reading.
I think fanfic certainly has its place but I also think that your right in saying that its made loads of people think they can be authors. And some might. Some are very good at writing but not at making characters and plot, so fanfic is the perfect way to write for them, already established characters (although most make them really out of character) and plot lines that they can change if they want.
I've never read a fanfic that lives up to the writer though :/
