Arianne (biatchwithwifi) | 127 comments they shot scenes of the latest bourne movie (the one with jeremy renner) a few blocks away from my family's home. traffic was terrible during their filming

message 302: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments I guess it is safe to say where you are Manuela, it is a grade A Bond environment, lol. I'm not too sure about any books turned into movies being filmed near me. But I know a movie has been filmed in parts of Cleveland and in a few counties near me. But sooo can't recall the name of either of them. Although I think one was a romantic comedy.

New Question: In keeping with the theme of me seeing Abe Lincoln the vamp hunter movie this weekend. I was curious to know what other historical figures would you have liked to have seen have a secret identity?

message 303: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments Hahahaha, I would say so too but I have to admit that there far too many Bond movies and this is a splinter of it being filmed there. I don't live in Germany anymore though, I moved to sunny South Australia :)

Albert Einstein, he is like the guy from Quantum Leap, just that he has perfected it and can choose where to go. That's how he got his theory about relativity done. LOL

message 304: by Arianne (new)

Arianne (biatchwithwifi) | 127 comments I've seen Abe Lincoln vamp hunter haven't seen the daniel day-lewis one though.

if a historical figure had a secret life, i'd say queen victoria. there's this episode in doctor who wherein the royal family are actually infected by lycanthropy (the queen gets infected by a wolf-like alien being and they pass off the symptoms as hemophilia)

message 305: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Awesome choices ladies. And that is really awesome on the werewolf aspect for the royals. To be honest I always thought that Prez George Washington or maybe even Dick Cheney lol. As they both seemed to have so much more going on than met the eye.

New Question: What is the book you are reading right now making you feel? Love it? Hate it? Want more of the characters? Frustrated at what is going on in the plot?

message 306: by Aarati (new)

Aarati | 145 comments I'm currently reading You Slay Me (Aisling Grey Guardian, #1) by Katie MacAlister . I like it. It is fun, witty, easy to read with a sexy hot dragon as the male lead. What's not to love...

message 307: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments Bloodright. by Karin Tabke by Karin Tabke Two brothers, lycans, one woman. I thought it would be a nice read but there is actually more to the story and I don't know if they can overcome the problems they face. Love it, loathe it, devour it.

message 308: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 1747 comments I'm currently working on The End of All Things by Lissa Bryan . A look into the world when it seems like it's on the edge of extinction. It has had a few creepy moments but it is also filled with adventure, survival, and a look into the thoughts of two main chars during the story.

message 309: by Dark Fairy (last edited May 06, 2013 08:50PM) (new)

Dark Fairy (dark_fairy) | 47 comments I'm reading Game of Thrones A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1) by George R.R. Martin , a friend recommended it to me. So far the author is describing the different families. I'm very intrigued and I want to fast forward to when will start the action and drama that my friend has promised me this book has. Unfortunately I have not had enough free time to read as much as I would love for. I hope to catch up this weekend.

message 310: by Arianne (new)

Arianne (biatchwithwifi) | 127 comments I'm reading Forsaken (The Demon Trappers, #1) by Jana Oliver . I can't seem to move forward though. I feel like I'm in a reading slump. If anyone would like to recommend a book, I'm game for anything.

@Dark fairy: I love this book series. My favorite is the second book. Have you not seen the HBO tv series?

message 311: by Dark Fairy (new)

Dark Fairy (dark_fairy) | 47 comments No Arianne, I want to finish the book before watch the TV serie. It is based in all the books or just the first one?

message 312: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Hmmm, will have to think of a good one for ya Arianne. I've been hitting a few books that have been hit and miss lately myself.

Colorful reading choices ladies. And have to concur with the rest of you, that I sooo don't like stories that start out too slowly particularly if it is meant to be action packed.

That being said, I was very frustrated with reading When Blood Calls (The Shadow Keepers, #1) by J.K. Beck . And I think that is do to it being a recommendation since I liked Lords of Deliverance so well. But in no way was it as juicy as the Lords. And to me it just never emoted worth a damn. Just printed words on the page through and through and man that sucked. But reading Attachments by Rainbow Rowell is definitely a turn around for sure. I've laughed out loud roughly 3 times and that is just from the first 9 chapters. I even feel for the hero of the story that is the epitome of being on the outside looking in in the story. So definitely a great contrast.

New Question: How helpful do you find online live chat sessions with customer service for a product that doesn't quite work as it should?

message 313: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments As I just used live chat services the other day to help me with one of my video games. I would have to say I sort of like it but at the same time kind of don't as the first person that was helping me was sorta rushing me off of there even though they thanked me for my "patience" in waiting on them finding answers.

And then when I still didn't have enough of an answer that first time and I went back the second person was slower and much more thorough. Even though the problem still wasn't entirely fixed. So to say the least I find it helpful pending on who you talk to.

New Question: Do you think you could ever fall for someone via reading their interactions through emails alone?

message 314: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments I tried live chat customer service the other night with Telstra, it sucked (excuse my language). I was waiting for 10 min to get a connection then gave up. No way do I do this again... if I don't have to.

Falling for someone just by letters and words is easy. Unfortunately when it comes to meet the person in real life it still has to do with looks and chemistry and when that is not there, it usually is the end of the story without a HEA. Been there, done that, have a t-shirt to prove it!!!

message 315: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (rie10) | 166 comments Yes, it is possible and it is also possilbe for it to work after you meet them. It depends on the person and how honest they are. If the other person is the same in person/real life as they are in e-mail chances are it will work. I am an example, though it was not E-mail. I talked on the CB Radio (yes, that 'old' thing used by truck drivers. it is great fun, really) for years. It is like the pre-email/internet version of what you are referring to.

I met my husband through there. Talked to him for about 2-3 years before i ever met him face to face. We started going out shortly after. We had 15 wonderful years till he passed away last year. What made it work was he was the same in person as he was on the radio. So was i. Many people act/talk one way when no one can see them (like CB, e-mail, messaging) however are completly differnt when face to face with somoene. I think the fact we bascically got to know each other before ever meeting helped our relationship. The only real issue that came up in the beginning was the almost 20 year age differnce between us. Not sure if i would have talked to him much if i had met him first back then. But i would not change any of it for anything.

message 316: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments On some level I think it is possible to fall for someone through online communications. Although I do concur that you should meet after some point so that you are sure you are really falling for the actual person and not someone they made up.

Just what is ironic about this question I asked yesterday. Is in relation to the Attachments book I'm reading. Where a IT security guy begins to fall for someone a newspaper through the emails she is exchanging back and forth with one of her work friends (he's one of those IT peeps that monitor the newspaper people when they are online and in particular using company email). And they have never actually met. Save for a few brief hi's in the break room, and some glimpses outside of work. But they don't really "know" know each other at all. And said female character talking to her friend about him and thinking he is attractive and the two friends contemplating when the chick is actually going to talk to him and get to know him. Oh and he has also helped the friend out with her flat tire in the parking lot once too. But still he hasn't even really seen her to know who she is either. So it's one heck of a read lol.

New Question: In keeping with the email topic. The question of the day is have you ever READ a significant other's email? If it was left open that is.

message 317: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (rie10) | 166 comments Nope. My other half was anti-computers. Well, more accruatly anti-internet. He did not know how to do much other than play solitare on my computer. So no e-mail to even try to read.

message 318: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments I got into some trouble when hubby received my facebook comments on the smartphone that I had to give back to him (they were both his but he gave me the smart one and I set it all up for me but was still using my old phone when he lost his own phone). I have access to his stuff but he is hardly using it. I used to read his txts when he let me but he is so boring when it comes to the 21st century gadgets, nothing to get angry or uptied about.

Liz Barrons-Kattalakis-Quiakides-Tehrror | 351 comments Dhfan4life wrote: New Question: In keeping with the email topic. The question of the day is have you ever READ a significant other's email? If it was left open that is.

By reading my husband's (now Ex)email is how I found proof that he was cheating on me with a married woman (with 2 kids). He denied it until I read back the emails t him...LOL...I know...TMI.

Is been 6 years since...that 's just life and I'm doing really good with my son.

message 320: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Oh wow, I'm soooo sorry that you had to find out about your ex's infidelity that way Liz. For that matter to be cheated on in the first place is very awful. Big hugs to you Liz. Good Riddance to bad luck as they say.

Personally have yet to have a significant other serious enough to ever want to check their email. But I'll be honest enough to say that if it is left open and I "casually" do a walk by I might take a gander at what is in there. But I can't really see myself sitting there clicking every message though. As I wouldn't want any one to do that to me personally.

P.S. that is really cool about the CB radio thing Valerie. I've always found those kind of interesting. Did you and your late husband accidentally tune into the same frequency some how or you were a radio dispatcher and met that way?

New Question: At what stage in your life did you realize you have "made it"? As in felt the most successful. Either right now or another period in your life? Speak on it.

message 321: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (rie10) | 166 comments Well...I was not a radio dispacher or anything. It was just a 'for fun' thing. Would chat on it while driving to & from work, going to visit people, just in an area and talk. Had a few mutual friends and we talked on several channels depeinding on time of day, who was where, etc. Kinda like a chat room...turn in to see who is there, move on if no one. It was kinda like you know Bob and chat with him on one channel, Bob is friends with larry and he is there too and everyone just picks it up.

For the question of the day.... I have yet to feel like i 'made it'. Got my Bachelor's degree and have yet to enter that field and not sure if i want to now. Don't get me wrong, I feel like I am doing pretty good and managing things well but nothing like i made it. Course, I have been wondering if i am doing something i really like or should attempt a change in jobs (includng in a completly different area). Course, after the last year and half, i am still upside down and working through grief so probably not the best time for me to be thinking of certain things.

message 322: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments I don't know, I always feel something is missing. I knew since I was a kid that I wouldn't stay in Germany. I just couldn't see myself living there for the rest of my life. I also had the idea of being married and having kids but most of my "boyfriends" took that generalisation too serious and left me then, when I was in my 20s. (Can't believe that most of them are married with children now or getting seperated).
Then I met my hubby (who I love dearly, that's why he frustrates me all the time with his antics and knowledge of how to push my buttons) and moved to Australia and we have our own house now (yay, would not have been possible in Germany - too expensive) but I am missing the children in my "dream". I am in my early 40s now and I know it is not too late yet, but the clock is ticking and the financial situation (paying the mortgage) is not set in stone either, so NO I am not there yet, haven't made it yet.

message 323: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 1747 comments Not there yet, lol. In response to the previous question, I've been through my other half's e-mail before for them. But they don't really care. It's never been a big deal for us. We use each others accts on things that we both use.

message 324: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Oh ok. I gotcha now Valerie. Still pretty cool thing to do with the CB stuff. :)

As for the other question, I would have to say I'm still definitely not quite there yet on the having "made it" quite yet either. Kind of on that precipice to get there for sure. Just struggling with the career part of things. But I feel once I'm more financially stable things should be able to fall into place. As I definitely have the degree work behind me. And honestly at this point I'm not really stressing getting a career in my field of study. I feel like as long as I manage to get my foot in the door and get more skills under my belt I could likely transfer into that field later on.

New Question: Have you ever deliberately tuned someone out just so you could complete a task or just so you didn't have to talk to them to begin with? If so, who was it?, why'd you tune them out? and how effective were you at tuning them out in the first place. (P.S. tuning someone out means to ignore them)

message 325: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments I tune out all the time when my hubby talks to me. I am on my laptop while he talks and watches tv, I grunt in agreement once in a while so he thinks, I am listening. But lately he is checking whether I am listening or not as he questions me what he said. Sometimes I get it right, sometimes I don't... He loves me anyway...

message 326: by Arianne (new)

Arianne (biatchwithwifi) | 127 comments I do this a lot. it's not because I want to be mean to people (and a lot of people do tell me that I come off snobby when they first met me).
I've taught myself to learn how to concentrate because I'm the type of person who likes to have plenty of thoughts on my mind.

message 327: by Arianne (new)

Arianne (biatchwithwifi) | 127 comments and in order for me to focus on the things I consider more important. I tend to tune out other people , especially people I know who live to babble away their daily life to me.

message 328: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments I think I'm a pro at tuning people out. Particularly when it comes to family. As I'm forever being called to do this or that by my folks. And it's like they are my two adult babies. "I need this, I need that" and usually what they want is sitting right there next to them. I know they gave me life and all that but still the things they call me for is hyper annoying sometimes.

New Question: Who is one character out of any story that has totally ticked you off when reading about them? What book are they in and why did they get on your last nerve?

message 329: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments Death of a Neighborhood Witch (A Jaine Austen Mystery, #11) by Laura Levine Jaine Austen is the most obnoxious character I have come across for a long time. The worst female in the Kenyonverse (and I know there is even a thread where you can bitch about those you "hate" most) has NOTHING against this one. The book was supposed to be a mystery but the only mystery about it is how a woman (are there actually females out there that are like this one???) who is as shallow, selfabsorbed and slightly brainless as this character is getting through its fictional life. She did not solve the "mystery" either, the culprit exposed himself to her in the end (she and her gay "best" friend pursuing the same guy) for he thought that she had it all figured out, but she hadn't. It is definitively a series that I won't follow (this is book 11!!!). Even if I had started at the beginning...

message 330: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Hmm, would have to say this was a difficult question to answer as I hadn't hated any characters in the books I've read thus far. But since I have picked up Lover at Last I can definitely say I'm anti-Qhuinn's family all over again. From sister on up to father. They are so against Qhuinn for the stupidest of reasons, mainly being he isn't "perfect" in their minds. And that warrants beating him to death too even in their world. Really makes me want to massively kick all of their asses.

New Question: Whose your current celebrity crush?

message 331: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments *Bawl my eyes out* I don't have one. There are some yummie guys out there but really crushing? No one in particular. Probably more a fictional boyfriend but I wouldn't know how he looks like as I am not into imagining faces and bodies to the characters in books. I don't even fill out 'favourite actor' in questionaires anymore, there are just too many.

Liz Barrons-Kattalakis-Quiakides-Tehrror | 351 comments My celebrity crushes are...Gerard Buttler, Hugh Jackman and Henry Cavill...Mmmmmm!!!!!!

message 333: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Michael Fassbender, Rachel Weisz, Chris Hemsworth and Gina Carano! And all of them for different reasons now that I'm looking at their names

message 334: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (rie10) | 166 comments Haven't really thoguht about it for a while but.... David Tennant(Doctor Who, Broadchurch), John Barrowman (doctor who, torchwood, arrow), Several of the guys on Merlin..I know there are several others but being at work hinders the thinking. :-)

message 335: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments I've had to really stop and think of this one too. As my usual celeb crushes are Mark Wahlberg, Mark Valley, Kevin Sorbo, Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Seth Green and likely I'm sure some other ones I'm missing.

But as of late my celeb crushes are Jake Gyllenhaal when he was in Love and Other Drugs, James Spader in Secretary, Eric Balfour in Lie With Me, and Heather Graham in Killing Me Softly. Love how they all act in different ways. Never hurts that they were pretty darn attractive too in their own way.

New Question: What's the best part of your day so far?

message 336: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments ooooh snap I friggin forgot about Mark Wahlberg. I've loved him since The Basketball Diaries and I didnt even think of him :-(

message 337: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments What do you think about him in the more funnier movie roles he has been in? I'm not sure if I like it or not personally. I mean I know he has a good sense of humor but some of the movies that he is in seem to force the comedy and it doesn't really suit his style to me.

message 338: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Well its only 12:46 am but this is actually my favorite time of day. Since I'm a night owl, I'm usually wide awake and alert. I'm not being bothered by anyone at this hour. So I guess the best part is the peace and quiet. I'm not forced to be social with anyone (after being around ppl all day) and I don't have to share this time with anyone else and can recharge

message 339: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Yeah I prefer he stick to the more dramatic roles. I actually think its weird that I think he did better in The Big Hit even though the movie was cheesy but it didnt seem as if he was trying to be fuuny. like you said it seems forced in Ted and The Other Guys (loved the latter btw)

message 340: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Oh I totally loved The Big Hit. He was so adorably cute in that. Same for Boogie Nights in a way. But yea, I wasn't too fond of those other movies.

message 341: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments its crazy that he did better comedic wise in his earlier movies but then again cheesy was good back in the 90s and he didnt have a lot to prove. I remember in a interview that he did The Big Hit for fun and he didnt expect a big following from Boogie Nights.

message 342: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments best part of the day: just now hubby came home and it is not even 10pm (he usually rocks up way past midnight - not really productive for my beauty sleep, LOL).

message 343: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (rie10) | 166 comments Well a bit late but mine is about now..nice cup of tea and then heading for bed soon. After the crap of today the relaxation and tea is so nice.

message 344: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Although it has come and gone. I have to say that I totally had the best part of my day when both my folks were napping. Didn't have to get bugged about every little thing for a few hours. Got to watch what I wanted to see. In what order I wanted. Able to get my own snack and just relax. Love those times of the week or month.

New Question: If you could be on a game show, which one would it be and do you think you would be able to make it to the end or not make it pass the first round?

message 345: by Arianne (new)

Arianne (biatchwithwifi) | 127 comments My sister and I have thought of auditioning for the amazing race--the asian or philippine version. unfortunately at that time she was only a minor, 16 or 17, and i didn't know how to drive. I think we would have done splendidly, we both like adventure and traveling.

I think if I joined who wants to be a millionaire, i'd win. i have this thing for learning stuff from all sorts of topics and storing them in my head.

message 346: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (rie10) | 166 comments Well damn...I don't know any of the current game shows cuz I am either at work when they are on, have other shows that conflict and I am just not a fan of reality shows like survivor or whatever is is out there.

Did find a pretty good one that is in England called Pointless...kinda like family feud in reverse - the answer that has the lest reponses (or no one responded with it) is the best. The team with the least points wins. So maybe something with odd triva questions (Not Jeopardy...to smart for me) I may do and have a fair chance of winning. maybe price is right??

message 347: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments I wish I could say that I'd be awesome on the Amazing Race. But no driver's license here either, can't swim and really not that great with super extroverted stuff like on that show. And I'm definitely not intellectual enough for Jeopardy either. But I think I would do all right on Wheel of Fortune and Family Feud. Just the atmosphere on both seem really awesome and fun and even if I didn't win I would still feel great to have been on the show.

I'm posting the new question early as we have all of these lightening flashes going on at the moment. So definitely wanna get off of here early and not be electrocuted.

New question: What are some of your phobias? Have you gotten help for them? Out grown them? Or Feel it is totally rational and don't feel the need to get help for it whatsoever?

Were you in the area that got hit with those tornado's and severe storms last night? I am one of those people that would be standing outside taking pictures of the twister and storm so i follow a few storm chasers. Really feal for them. Hope all is well and there was no major damage where you are.

Now..phobias...I freak out if anything come near my eyes. Not sure why, but i wore glasses since I was in 2nd grade (had the coke-bottle action goin on) and got hit in the face during gym and playing alot. I did manage to have corrective eye surgery. I do have anxiety issues and take something for it but still have the occasional irrational fear of being at home alone since i lost my hubby. Gotten better (and am seeing a grief councilor). can't think of any others...oh--can't stand walking through seaweed at the beach. Just grosses me out.

message 350: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Nope, thankfully no tornadoes at all here. We had a few some storms ago and it tore up a local wal-mart and another local store. Was a surprise then and even now.

As for my phobias I would have to say that I'm afraid of pain(intentional pain like giving blood and getting shots), needles, heights(even on the stairs), drowning, and broken bones. From what I've been told by family all my phobias are irrational. But I have not sought help for any of them. Just been thankful that I haven't been sick to take all those shots or ever broken a bone. Have fallen up and down stairs before. But nothing too serious.

New Question: In 5 words or less describe yourself
