S.D. Livingston | 4 comments Hi everyone! I'm a new member from Canada (the Toronto area). I enjoy all kinds of mysteries, thrillers, and suspense, from a cozy Agatha Christie to Stephen King and beyond. I'm also a huge history buff, so historical mysteries and suspense are also a favourite.

Looking forward to finding some great books and discussions in this group!

Sandra

Jamie-Lee (jamie-leewhiteman) Hi everyone! My name is Jamie and am from QLD, Australia. I enjoy reading anything that will get my blood pumping and chatting with friends about the books we have read. I love a hot coffee and a quiet place to read for on hours on end - to the point where my forgotten coffee goes cold. If you have any recommendations for a good read, please let me know! I'm looking forward to chatting with you all! :-)

I'm with you on the cold coffee. Very few things can lure me from a good book! :)

John (johnbyrnebarry) | 1 comments Hi, I'm John Byrne Barry, a reader and writer. I inhale my share of thrillers — Lee Childs, Michael Connolly, Jonathan Kellerman, and the like — but what I love most, and what I try to write are "page-turners with a conscience."

Galloping plot, rising tension, but with three dimensional characters and something to think about when you're done. John LeCarre and Scott Turow come to mind. Reading Tatiana by local author Martin Cruz Smith.

I just wrote a play for my local community theater company, and am now directing it. It's called Publish or Perish: Tam Valley Mystery Writers' Retreat Murder Mystery.

When a group of mystery writers, agents, and writer-wannabes gather for a writing conference at a remote retreat, and one of them is murdered, well, they all go bonkers. They know about murder in their imagination, but not in the real world. However, they all fancy themselves hotshot detectives, so they bump heads trying to solve the mystery.

When I'm not writing, I lead bicycle tours in San Francisco.

message 7268: by Nicole (new)

Nicole (blokette) Hi, I am Nicole. I am a Brit living in USA now. I love to read. I am in two book clubs and also listen to books while I drive so usually read at least four a month. (I have been seen stirring the dinner with a book in my other hand :)) While I enjoy our book club books they lean more to different kind of book so my driving listening and other books I choose between book club books are often murder mysteries or thrillers (although not too gruesome). Looking forward to some good discussion and recommendations.

Kirsten (kmcripn) Welcome, Dawn! I'm with you! I never leave the house without access to reading materials. Thankfully with e-readers and smartphones it's a lot easier than before.

I remember lugging a hardcover copy of The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova when riding the bus to work one year.

Abderrahim Jami | 1 comments Hello everyone
I just discovered this website after wandering among the enormous information space of hypertext links that we all call the internet, I couldn't be happier to have finally found a place to share one of my hobbies, hoping to become a passion, since I have to admit, I don't read that much.
I'm in my 20s, moved from Italy to UK (Scotland) waiting to get a response from my favourite university to start studying hopefully the next year.
P.s. I apologize for my English, I'm still practicing

message 7295: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Hi, Abderrahim. Your "Welcome to the Family" URL is Rhapsody of Fire - Triumph or Agony: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqNMb...

As for your English, I find it to be of much better quality than that of a lot of other Americans, especially those for whom it is a first language rather than a foreign language... . Present company (mostly) excluded.

Which should tell you the truth about the state of American education... .
