Victoria Dougherty (goodreadscomvictoria_dougherty) | 60 comments Love Kansas City.

message 53: by LaDonna (new)

LaDonna (ladonnasbooknook) | 10 comments I love Kansas City so much. It has all the perks of being a big city with all the culture, shopping, sports teams, etc while retaining a friendly, small town feel. I've lived all over the country, but never want to leave here again.

message 54: by Victoria (new)

Victoria Dougherty (goodreadscomvictoria_dougherty) | 60 comments Totally agree, LaDonna. I always told my husband I could easily live there.

message 55: by Marla (new)

I like authors Lee Child, Michael Connelly, James Patterson, Linwood Barclay, Nancy Bush, Tess Gerritson, Lisa Jackson, Lisa Gardner, Tami Hoag just to name a few. Have not tried any books by David Baldacci but he is on my list to read. Am looking forward to being part of this group.

Hi

We now have reached eighty members, which is good and this group has doubled in size this year.

So firstly welcome to all the new members, Melissa being our newest member who joined yesterday, welcome.

I hope you will all start to post, comment and vote.

We have a group read, waiting for some more votes, for February read, we have only had ten votes.

At present only have the members have added one post or more here.

More posts, more ideas help grows this group, and keeps it interesting.

Add new posts, let's help each other.

I have tried to add more polls, to get some more opinions, and more ideas just send a pm to me.

kind regards

Sean

Irene (zavrou) | 44 comments Hi Sean , I see you have posted polls on actors and series among other things. May I respectfully request that if we are to open discussion on (for example) 'Favourite Series' that we take into account that different countries may be much further ahead and to warn of spoilers.

Hi Irene,

Yes good point, when I had a post on a book, I never give the plot/story away, many have on various posts.

Series/actors etc, should be comments on the series rather than what happens.

So fully understand, and I hope others follow our opinion on this please.

reghards

Sean

message 62: by Dana (new)

Dana I'm new here also. Dana from Alabama. I love Mysteries and Thrillers as well as romance novels, historicals and biographies. I'm currently reading the Vince Flynn books - Mitch Rapp series and really enjoying them!

message 63: by Rick (new)

Rick | 606 comments Dana, unfortunately, there won't be any more from Vince Flynn since he died in June, 2013.

message 64: by Dana (new)

Dana Yes sadly I know that. He had prostate cancer. I read one of his books a long time ago, and had several in my TBR pile when he passed away. So I decided to start from the beginning and read all of them. Very sad. Such a talented author.

I'm Kathryn and live in the woods in western Maine. Very beautiful but I am getting very sick of all the snow and cold, as most others are around the country. I love to read when I can, mostly mysteries but sometimes horror, too. You can't live in a small Maine town and not read Stephen King, but I mostly read mysteries.

thanks for posting

Arlene Hayes | 2 comments Hi, I'm Arlene Hayes, I'm a Goodreads author. I've written 4 novels so far. I live on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. I don't really have a favourite author, but Richard Laymon and James Herbert come to mind. I also like Peter May. I love horror and supernatural thrillers. My favourite thing to read though, is about island life in the past. It fascinates me, especially as I live in a very old little stone-built cottage.

PS Have you tried Sharon Bolton ?

message 69: by Ty (new)

Ty Patterson | 401 comments I am a Goodreads author and published my first thriller, The Warrior,amzn.to/14TGB5m, a year back. It will appeal to readers of Lee Child, Robert Crais, Vince Flynn, Brad Thor, David Baldacci, et al.

at the moment my fave thriller author is Robert Crais especially his Joe Pike series.

i would also recommend Stephen Hunter's Bob Lee Swagger series, strongly.

message 71: by Lace (new)

Lace | 5 comments Hey there,
I just received a message that encouraged me to introduce myself. So here goes. My name is Lacey, and until about eight months ago, I was a dealer and floor person at the Hooters casino in Las Vegas. I've been in Vegas enjoying that "dry heat" since 1996. Little secret, dry hear means when the wind blows, it feels like you're standing in front of a open furnace door. But it rarely gets really cold. And being from Iowa, I know cold. I share a new to me house with two dogs, two cats, hundreds of books, and a boyfriend who has put up with it all for about nineteen years. Believe it or not, he's still buying me books too!
I enjoy thrillers, but of all the books I'm reading, none of them are really thrillers. So I thought this group might give me some good suggestions. Not to mention, the few people I know who read here, are starting to get that glazed look in their eyes when I talk about what I'm reading.
Well that's probably more than anyone wanted to know. So happy reading and I look forward to some interesting chats.
-Lace

Alice Lance | 3 comments Hi
My name is Alice and I live in South Dakota. I love mystery/thriller novels. I recently finished David Baldacci's new series Forgotten and The Hit. I love his new character.
I am usually reading 2 to 3 "books" at a time. An ebook on my phone, an audio book in my car and a real book to curl up with.
I am currently reading Killer by Jonathan Kellerman, King and Maxwell by David Baldacci and Cell by Robin Cook.

Sue (coccotoro) | 2087 comments My name is Sue and I joined this group awhile ago after RonHummer recommended this group to me. I put forward the book to read, "A Tap On The Window" by Linwood Barclay, which I have to read next. For those that don't know me, I live in Toronto with my husband and our 2 Labs, that rule the nest. I work from home in my own business, so it works out find. I love reading mystery, suspense, crime, psychological thrillers that have a twist...a whodunit approach. Have been a member of Goodreads since 2010, and have met a lot of great people. Welcome to everyone in the group.

Nominally a resident of Brooklyn NY; nobody distinguished or especial in any way. Simply someone who grew up reading adventure and action yarns and never got out of the habit. Not keen on today's crop; always much more interested in classics. Solid, reliable, proven.

Here's a place where I've been reviewing my favorite espionage/thriller/action titles. Long thread, but you may see some of your favorites mentioned. I devoted a good effort to Frederick Forsyth and William Goldman.

Perri | -43 comments "A small house, a big garden, a few good friends, and lots of great books" I live on the San Juan islands off the coast of Washington State. It's fun how members are from all over the world! I read a wide assortment,-about the only thing that I won't read is Poetry and Romance. I have a weakness for dog books. In this genre, Suspect by Robert Crais was one I can recommend :)

Thomas E Montgomery (thomasemont) | 27 comments Howdy ya'll, (Chuckle) I'm from east Texas. Been here for 31 years. I've been reading since the 3rd grade, well I really learned to read in the first grade. I remember the first words in the first book on the first day of class. See spot run, were the words. The book was titled "Fun with Dick and Jane". It was in a little red school house in rural Indiana.
Ah, perhaps I should skip ahead a bit. I spent one summer in a cottage that belonged to a deceased English Lit professor. It was his get-away study and it had in it all the classics he had enjoyed over his life. I spent the summer reading one after another. I don't remember all the titles or authors, but their words helped shape my mind.
My wife and I, the dog, the horse and the guineas share 1.63 acres of rural bless.
I suffer from a malady which is incurable. I am a reader and now, also, a writer. I prefer to read a book in one setting. (OCD?) I have gone to bed at four in the morning too many times to count. The stories would not wait.
That is the writer I wish to become. The one who keeps you up later than you should, to finish a story.

Hi, Thomas. I, too, live in East Texas--on Lake Fork in Wood County, and I, too, have always loved reading. Glad to know there is a fellow East Texas here.

message 82: by Kathy (new)

Kathy Sales | 22 comments I'm a retired teacher/instructional technology specialist living on a large lake in East Texas with my husband and two dogs. I've always loved to read, but now I have the time to devote to it. I love crime fiction and mysteries, and that includes some thrillers. I'm not sure how flexible your definition of thriller is here, so forgive me if I occasionally mention some that aren't quite considered thrillers. I love so many of the authors y'all have been listing here.

I just finished Laura Lippman's After I'm Gone, which was excellent, as are all her books. I'm currently reading Love Story, With Murders: A Novel by Harry Bingham. It's wonderful, too.

message 83: by Lace (new)

Lace | 5 comments Well Ty, how long do you have? Just kidding I have a habit of reading several books at once. Some more actively than others, in several genres.
Making assumptions considering this club, Toys - James Patterson, Witch Hunt- Shirley Damsgaard, The Last Victim - Karen Roberts, NOS4A2 - Joe Hill, and They danced by the Light of the Moon-- Tempa Pagel. The last of which, I won in a drawin on Goodreads. I'm afraid I have short attention span, and if the story drags, and get impatient and read another book for a bit. It gives me patience with the plot and sometimes a new perspective.
What are you reading currently? Who are your favorite authors?

Thomas E Montgomery (thomasemont) | 27 comments I'm glad to make your acquaintance, Kathy. Welcome to the group.

message 87: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Thompson | 1 comments I'm an author with one title on the market, The Mistaken, a dark psychological (romantic) thriller. My second, Leverage, a sequel, will launch in May.

I currently live in Seattle, WA, though I spent most of my life in San Francisco.

My favorite authors are John Hart (Down River, The Last Child, Iron House), Lisa Regan (Finding Claire Fletcher, Aberration), and Jennifer Hillier (Creep, Freak, The Butcher).

I shy away from cliched murder mysteries, typically police procedurals & detective novels, preferring dark psychological thrillers about normal people sucked into extraordinary circumstances.

So nice to meet everyone!

Lace, i am on a Louis L'Amour binge currently. I think Westerns were the precursor to the modern day thrillers and many of the modern day thriller characters are similar to Western protagonists. I finished reading David Baldacci's novella, Bullseye, whichw as ok, not great. I guess a novella makes for a very compressed, rather unsatisfying read.

if you read new authors, pls give mine a whirl.. - there, i have done the shameless plug :)
