Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 652 comments I'm definitely a Greaney fan....

I just decided to splurge, went out and spent the last of my money on a steak sub from Firehouse.

Yeah I know, life in the fast lane.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 652 comments Oops, oh yeah we talk about books here. I'm well into the Eddie LaCrosse novels. I think the first was pretty good, but they seem to be getting better as they go.

Steak sub always sounds delicious...I'm eating ramen!!

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Leftover homemade cabbage rolls from St. Patrick's day for me--yum!

Minnesota Chris

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 652 comments I like cabbage rolls, but I've not had them in years...or stuffed peppers or a lot of "stuff".

Steak sub was good though.

Yes it was good, and because I cook usually in large batches, I freeze, so that when I am busy, or friends drop in for dinner, I have something already done.

Lol :-D I like the way conversation has veered into food!! Gone 2 in the morning here, and I'm choosing my next read!

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 652 comments It's almost 10:00PM here...I'm eating frozen yogurt, and listening to an audio book.

Mike, I agree with you on your star rating system. I don't give 5 stars easily. Has to be something really special, and they don't come along that often. Thinking about it, I don't think I've ever listened to an audio book, not an adult one anyway. I'm probably missing out. I'm also on Booklikes if anyone wants to seek me out there, then yay! Or friend requests here!!

message 364: by Seeley (new)

Seeley James (seeleyjames) | 22 comments I've been invited twice, by Sean and Tim, so I figure I'd better get on it. :) After 30 years in global tech sales, I've turned to my passion, writing thrillers. I look forward to engaging with everyone.

About my writing: How Adopting a 3-yr-old at 19 Formed the Basis for a Thriller

Peace, Seeley

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 652 comments I have an account on Booklikes but I don't go there any more. There's no real social aspect there.

I got started listening to audio books back when they were books on cassette (my wife liked them). I spent a lot of time in my work vehicle so i had time to listen on the road. Now I listen because I enjoy them.

Lorrea - WhatChaReadin'? (whatchatreadin) Welcome to the group Seeley!!

There's no social aspect anywhere unless a group is joined, I think. Was certainly quiet on here until I joined a couple of groups. :) Time is always the thing for me, with four kids it gets a bit crazy! As for audio books, I don't know about elsewhere, but here in the UK, they're quite costly. Been a long time since I've looked. Think I might look at some classics, they might be good to listen to (if available).

Lorrea - WhatChaReadin'? (whatchatreadin) I'm not sure if this is an option for you there, but here I am able to borrow the audiobook from my library online. Also, I'm not sure if you are familiar with http://www.audible.com Another good resource for audio books. It's just within the past year that I have gotten into them.

Seeley James (seeleyjames) | 22 comments Sean wrote: "Welcome Seeley..."

Nothing like peer pressure to accomplish good things :)

I see many familiar names here. Thanks for the welcome!

Peace, Seeley

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 652 comments Same here. I don't know if there are services like this in the UK (though I assume there are). We have 2 services through our local library system that allows us to download audio books (and for that matter E-books) for checkout. I also buy from Audible. the library offers books on CD also. I think I actually listen to more books than I read in print now (if I can get the book I'm looking for in audio).

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 652 comments Hi M.S. welcome. I'm sure you'll get lots of recommendations. Give some examples of what you like and people will pile on book suggestions.

In all honesty, the library never even occurred to me. Don't think I've used one since childhood!! But definitely worth checking out. Thanks for the suggestion. :)

Hello to all newbies!

Welcome to my group, and the many great thriller readers.

Here you will find many people giving you great ideas, great authors.

After reading your post, I would suggest to you ...

our group Q & A author from last week Sharon Bolton and start with Now You See Me , her first.

Fast pace go for Lee Childs, David Baldacci and Simon Kernick.

Give a couple of days and you will have loads to choose from.

There are many thriller authors in this group.

Lorrea - WhatChaReadin'? (whatchatreadin) Welcome M. S. There will never be a shortage of suggestions in this group. My TBR list has grown so much in the past few weeks

I made a horrible mistake!!!!!
I looked at all the topics your group offers!!!! Do you ever sleep????
I better stick to a couple topics and close my eyes to the rest. LOL. I'd have to give up reading my books.
GREAT group. Thanks for the invite.

Oh I like this idea, a retirement fund would be lovely.

As in reality, I just do not have tome to sleep !!!

I am so happy with the group is growing, I am spending too much time on here, but loving it !

Although I do leave my computer to play tennis 3-4 times a week, work, garden, walk, listen to music and watch television.

Sleep I only have time for 5- 6 hours a night, as once I have a good book, I'm reading to 11.30 to 12.00 in the evening, and then up 5.00 a.m for work.!!

So I highly recommend a help sleep fund, and retire early fund !! LOL

Jonetta (ejaygirl) Hi, everyone! I'm from Greensboro NC and have loved this genre since my Nancy Drew days:) I moderate a Mystery & Suspense group on another site and am hoping to cross pollinate here and there. My TBR is ridiculous but who cares. One can never have too many good books to read.

Thanks for the invite, Sean.

message 391: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Anyone looking for a new author might try William Kent Krueger. He is wildly popular in Minnesota. His mystery series revolves around detective Cork O'Connor who is 75% Irish and 25% Native American. The setting is primarily "up North" in Minnesota lake country. The character is well-developed and evolves as you go through the series.

I've read the first book in the Cork O'Connor series, Iron Lake, and loved it. Add my endorsement to yours.

Sandy from Alaska Colón (sandycfromak) Hi, I'm Sandy. I live in Alaska with my husband, an African Grey parrot and two dogs. I recently joined this group after receiving an invite from Tim "The Enchanter".

Like all of you, I love to read. I read all genres, but my favorites are mystery and historical fiction. I noticed someone mentioned Nancy Drew. I too read those books when I was young as well as the Hardy Boys!

Thanks Tim, for the invite.

Hi Sandy. Two thumbs up for the Hardy Boys. I devoured the Hardy Boys when I was a kid. I was always searching bookstores and flea markets looking for missing volumes. Unfortunately, I have very few of them left. My wife on the other hand has most of the three different series of Nancy drew sitting on our shelves. Our girls will be able to relive our favorite reads as they grown up.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 652 comments Hi Sandy, welcome. I bet keeping the Parrot is a trick up there. My grandmother had a parakeet that suffered from winters in Virgina.
