I finished for the monthly:
- It was an OK YA read. The male MC loses his vocal cords when he's in a drunken road accident. It was refreshing to see a story without any angst after such a big incident. He coped, with difficultly, but he did. No angst on why this happened. Sadly, though I couldn't connect with the characters. It all seemed too-perfect and goody-goody. Time to take a break from YA.
- Comfort Read author for me. This was a book I read looong back and I decided on a whim since my library has it on loan. Loved it. Somehow, NR still works out for me most of the time.
- FInished today. Works for the mini as well. (Yes, It's Wednesday here). This book was just OK for me. Not that great. I didn't get why Jason and Justine fell in love. It was taken for granted, sort of. I wish LK would go back to writing straight contemporaries. I loved the Travis series.
@Leslie - I keep hearing commercials for Nandy's Candy on the radio. I've been thinking of going there for Valentine's Day candy. Vi wrote: "What about Silhouettes?"
I don't see why not - the single person is clear in the 2nd one.
I'm not sure. I'll wait to see how Leslie feels about it. Also, be sure to let us know what you think about it if you read it - it's been on my kindle for ages.
I finished
- Sherrilyn Kenyon for the monthly. Next romances should be
- Kathleen Woodiwiss and the next in the Dark-Hunter series
.
Good morning everyone! I love seeing all the books posted.@Vi - Sorry to hear that about Crystal Cove. I liked the previous one alot so I had high hopes for this one. Though I completely agree about the Travis series. I recently gave one of those to my 20 year old daughter and she fell in love with it! And I am with you about Nora Roberts. I just like her books. Very reliable.
As to the book Darkhouse - I would say yes. It's very definitely a person on the cover. And I have also had that on my nook for forever. So please share what you think of it!
@Alley - Nandy's has amazing candy. They make their own chocolate. If you go - ask for Maggie. She normally works on Friday afternoons and all day Sat. But she's there more right now for Valentines Day! And wow, can I just say that I haven't read a Kathleen Woodwiss in years! Love those old bodice rippers!!
@Marguerite - I just added In Need of a Good Wife - looks really good! Can't resist a mail order bride story. Did you finish that on Wednesday? I can't tell by your post.
Leslie I finished in Need of a Good Wife yesterday (Tuesday). You will love it!!!
Michelle wrote: "So Alley, what was the final decision on the Phantom of the opera cover?"I'll say no to drawn people on the cover, but yes to alternative covers - if you can find one with an actual person on the cover, it'll be fine.
Unless I missed a conversation about alternative cover use that decided against it.
I spent the whole day reading manga - gobbled up 8 which unfortunately can't be used for this challenge. Back to regular scheduled reading from tomorrow@Leslie - I'm thinking there will be loads of people loving that book. I think I'm in the minority when it comes to Crystal Cove. I loved that first book (Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor) but sadly the books after that aren't just as good.
Great to hear Darkhouse works. I'll let you all know how it is.
Vi, wondering which manga you just devoured? Right now I'm reading Spice & Wolf and just starting the epic journey that is One Piece.
@Lisa Kay - Ha Ha!! I know that must drive you crazy!! It's one of those things it would be easy to go on a rant about.@Vi- I don't think you are in the minority. I've read lots of comments that people don't like this series as much as other stuff she has written. I really enjoy it, though. But there are some authors that I just like anything they write - I have a hard time judging their books objectively.
@Melissa - I really need to read this series. It looks like so much fun. And I know you recommended this author to me before. I'm adding her to my list for next month.
Leslie wrote: "@Lisa Kay - Ha Ha!! I know that must drive you crazy!! It's one of those things it would be easy to go on a rant about."Definitely!
@Leslie ~ I ♥ the Rock Chick series. I would actually say to start with this series from her over the Mystery Men series. The women in this series are a serious hoot!!@Lisa Kay/Leslie ~ that is too funny! I have been surprised what shelf people use....
I finished
which has been a holdover from January. Loved it!! And now I'm reading
and
I think all 3 qualify as romance and the last one qualifies for the mini challenge!
@Melissa - okay I found the book at B&N and I've got it on my list for next month!
@Katie - I started re-reading Fushigi Yûgi: The Mysterious Play, Vol. 1 - Priestess for a challenge and then proceeded till 8. I also. I have GetBackers, Volume 1 also (scanlations just finished). Planning to start Berserk, Vol. 1 next mostly once GB is done. About 30 volumes to go :PAh, One Piece is just becoming too epic for my taste. 60++ volumes is just too intimidating. I need fortifications. Have you read any other manga?
Katie wrote: "Vi, wondering which manga you just devoured? Right now I'm reading Spice & Wolf and just starting the epic journey that is One Piece."
Um, OK so the Stephie Plum series is not Romance? I though chick-lit-y romance?@Leslie - Oh, I have but honestly, this series is not as bad as they say. LK could do way better, If you ask me. But I'm glad she's experimenting out ;)
Vi wrote: "Um, OK so the Stephie Plum series is not Romance? I though chick-lit-y romance?"I personally wouldn't shelve it as romance, but I can see why others do. It's more of a mystery with a bit of romance mixed in.
I posted a poll years ago about what genre the Stephanie Plum series fell into. Most popular answer: Rom-Com (Romantic-Comedy). I was totally surprised.
Hubby gave me my Valentines gift tonight.lol It is a brand new Kindle Fire HD 8.9", 32GB.
Could someone post here what the various word counts come to in actual pages for me please.
Hi Marguerite, this page estimates 100 pages to be around 45000 words, and you can enter a word count at the top to have it converted to pages. Not sure how accurate this is though, as I've never tested it myself! If you look up a book on goodreads, you should be able to see the page counts shouldn't you? (though you might have to look up the paperback version).
Marguerite, sweet gift!!!Vi wrote: "Have you read any other manga?"
I'll have to check out the ones you're reading now especially if you're rereading one of the series! Must be good! My favorite managa of all time, Fullmetal Alchemist, Vol. 1, absolutely loved it and this was the series that got me into manga. After FMA, I went to the obvious choices of Naruto and Bleach but Steve (the hubs) got into both Death Note and then Bakuman, Band 1. I'll honestly pick up anything and give it a try. I did struggle with the fanservice of Negima!: Magister Negi Magi, Volume 1, if the girls were in high school it would be okay but the fact that they're in middle school disturbs me a little bit. Which manga is your fave thus far?
for the single person on the cover mini challenge. 90% about Auma, a Kenyan girl who lives in Europe for 20 years and then returns to Kenyan; 10% about her observations / meetings with her younger half-brother, Barack Obama.
So funny about the Stephanie Plum series. My problem with it is that it doesn't have enough romance! And Vi - I've read the others in this series and liked them. They are all 4 star reads for me. This new one is on my list to read soon. I'm waiting to see if the price will come down for my Nook.
@Marguerite - great Valentine's Day gift!! A friend of mine also got one - she is so excited!
Happy Valentine's Day!

Marguerite wrote: "Hubby gave me my Valentines gift tonight.lol It is a brand new Kindle Fire HD 8.9", 32GB."That is awesome Marguerite!! Enjoy it!
Lisa Kay wrote: "I posted a poll years ago about what genre the Stephanie Plum series fell into. Most popular answer: Rom-Com (Romantic-Comedy). I was totally surprised."Not sure I would consider it a romance? I would consider them more suspense/thriller if that makes sense?!? I actually just read them for (usually) a light hearted belly laugh. Lula and Grandma Mazur crack me up. (view spoiler)
Happy Valentine's Day Team My daughter put paper hearts on the kitchen chairs last night for today - too cute.
For the romance challenge I've finished:
Starting
and
and one will at least count for the mini-challenge. Woot!!
Sherri - when did you finish Rainshadow Road? If it was yesterday, then it will count as well. Love the covers! I've added several of those to my TBR.@Melissa - so cute!! I may steal her idea for our family dinner tonight. My husband is making dinner! But my daughter gave up all sweets for Lent - so I'm trying to figure out what to do for dessert. Maybe fruit? Any ideas?
@Leslie - I finished it on the 9th so it just counts for the romance challenge. Good try though. :-)

My son was going to give up ice cream. My daughter told him he couldn't as I am going to make a punch w/shebert, sprite and pink lemonade - it's very pink.
You could do a fruit salad (I like blueberries, strawberries and bananas - in my family everyone likes someting in this) or make fruit smoothies with vanilla flavored yogurt and some honey to sweeten it.
I like the fruit salad idea - I am horrible at smoothies! My mom suggested I make homemade whipped cream - but I could do greek yogurt - and get some pound cake for my husband. Also, is sherbert ice cream? Just curious!I gave up fast food. It's going to be so hard.
Katie thank you!!!
Leslie thank you!!!
Rebecca thank you and he sure is!!!!
Melissa thank you!!!!

Leslie wrote: "My problem with it is that it doesn't have enough romance!"As with a lot of other things in life, Leslie, it is all relative. LOL!
Happy Valentine's Day to you, too. Thanks for the cupcake!

~Melissa~ wrote: "Lula and Grandma Mazur crack me up."Yeah, they are the funniest. I would categorize as Murder Mystery with some Chick Lit/Caper thrown in. **shrugs** See, there is a lot of variety on that answer.

Sweet about your daughter. ♥

Also, is sherbert ic..."I'm not sure if shebert is considered ice cream but it is creamy like ice cream. I think it might be lower fat and lower suger content
Just finished
It qualifies for Romance (13 readers!) and for the mini challenge. Next up is a light historical romance! Desperately needed after that series! I will be reading

Yeah - I think I saw about her interview somewhere also - that's why I'm not in a big rush to get to them. I'm thinking that is what will happen with the spin off series she is writing as well.
