Tower Team D: Dangerously Determined to Devour All Books
@Gayle - I enjoy Kay Hooper. I love her Bishop series. These older ones of hers are more of a light romantic suspense. They are pleasant easy reads. And if you like Susanna Kearsley, you will like this one. Again, an earlier work - but the same time slip story line.
I finished
yesterday which I quite enjoyed.I was worried because it's another one labelled as "If you loved Twilight..." but it was interesting enough and I didn't want to punch any of the characters like I did with Twilight!
Not sure how many Romances I'll get covered this month. Beautiful Creatures counts as one, but I've got a pile of review books to tackle as part of Review Copy Cleanup and I'm not sure how many of those will count!
Leslie wrote: "Jane if you would like to claim your prize as winner of the last mini challenge, please check you messages."just replied, check you message :-)
I checked and replied! Thanks Jane!! I'm so excited.@Faith - my youngest daughter loves that series and has been trying to get me to read it. I am also not a Twilight fan, but she insists this is much better. And the movie looks really interesting.
And I am amazed at certain books being shelved as Romance by people. Many of the UF that I read qualify. So you may be surprised.
@Leslie I'm hoping so! I'm also taking part in Project Fairytale this month for which I'm reading retellings of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. At least one of those is definitely listed as romance!I meant to ask ages ago by the way, but if anyone has reviews of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland or a retelling of it that they'd be happy for me to share let me know :) Obviously they'll be 100% credited and linked back to you. They can be for books, films or anything else Alice inspired you can think of!
Just finished my first romance for the month. Wallbanger This was a quick, easy funny read!! I will never think of Spanx, Purina or Giggler the same again,lol@Leslie I love Kay Hooper also. Love the Bishop series!! Will have to check out her older books
@Faith - glad you liked Beautiful Creatures. I want to read the book before we go to the movie. It's funny because I enjoyed the Twilight books but not so much the movies - maybe it's because I had different versions in my head - especially of Edward.
Well I finished the Kay Hooper book
Counts toward Romance. But unfortunately it was just okay. They heroine was so annoying!@Melissa - I had to pick up that book - you were having too much fun reading it.

Let me know what you think of it as you read it.
Just finished my second romance for the month
. Cute quick read. This is the beginning of a trilogy that I'm sure I'll continue. I want to find out what happens with Lizzie's friend's Katie & Allison.
Question ~ I just started
today. 8 users classified as Romance and 8 as Romance/Paranormal. Would that count for our Romance challenge?
That's a very good question, Melissa. I'm not sure how the other captains want to handle that. I would say yes it counts. But I will leave it up to others.
Leslie wrote: "That's a very good question, Melissa. I'm not sure how the other captains want to handle that. I would say yes it counts. @Leslie, I love Susanna Kearsley too. Her prose is so lyrical. Mariana is one of my favorites. I'm glad you enjoyed it too!@Gayle - Have you read the Psy-Changeling series by her? It's more PNR but the world she built is amazing!
I've been in a bad reading slump all week. I haven't read anything at all. I've started
that works for a couple of challenges. Unfortunately, it looks to be pure Fantasy. On the brighter side, I'm enjoying it.
@Faith...LOL I wanted to punch Twilight characters too! That's why I hated 50 Shades as well but you gave me confidence in Beautiful Creatures! My friend from the train has been telling me for months to pick up the series especially when the trailer for the movie hit Youtube. I'm looking forward to starting it tomorrow!
@Vi- those are the exact words I use to describe Susanna Kearsley's writing as well! And the book you are reading now looks very interesting. I like some pure fantasy, but I'm careful about it.@Melissa - so glad it counts! It looks good!
I started 2 books yesterday
and
Both will count towards Romance.
Leslie wrote: "@Vi- those are the exact words I use to describe Susanna Kearsley's writing as well! And the book you are reading now looks very interesting. I like some pure fantasy, but I'm careful about it.@M..."
Vlad, Vlad, Vlad..that's all I'm gonna say,lol
Question about the February Romance Challenge... Does the book have to be shelved as strictly 'romance' by 10 or more people or can it be a`shelved as 'paranormal-romance' or some other variation of romance?

Dial M for . . . Mini Challenge
Duration: Wed Feb 6th - Sunday Feb 10th
Rules: Books must have a word in the title that starts with M or the author's first, middle or last name must start with M.
How: Please post covers as you finish them. If they also count towards the February Romance challenge, please mention that in your post. Books must be finished on Wed -Sun at midnight.
Thanks Jane for sponsoring this mini challenge!
Okay, here is the answer to the question about shelves. In order to qualify for the Romance Challenge, a book must be shelved under "Romance" by at least 10 people. Sub genres will not count toward this.
Hope this clarifies it for everyone and sorry it took so long.

That's ok and thanks for the clarification.
I'll have to check what M books I have lined up.
Great task Jane! Off to shuffle some books around...Looks like
(Monica Ferris) :)
(Maria Semple) and
(Liane Moriarty) are up next of which only 1 is classified as a romance.
These challenges are fun. I'll be reading
Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr &
Midsummer Magic by Catherine Coulterfor the mini-challenge.
I know Midsummer Magic is romance - not sure about Wicked Lovely.
I was doing some shuffling of books myself! And I'm glad you like the challenges, Alley! Anything that helps me to figure out what to read next is a good thing!!And Wicked Lovely is definitely shelved as Romance. 555 users did so LOL!
Just finished
. Melissa has it about right when she said VLAD! And it is a romance. Thinking about what to start next.
Leslie wrote: "Okay, here is the answer to the question about shelves. In order to qualify for the Romance Challenge, a book must be shelved under "Romance" by at least 10 people. Sub genres will not count towar..."
This helps narrow down my choices. Thanks!
I have a question. In the beginning of this discussion where all are names are, it says [Name Alert] next to my name. What does that mean? :) Is it because there's another Anna in the group?
Reading
This is an author that I really like and this is a new series. It has zombies, so I am withholding judgement. But it is shelved as Romance. Some ideas for my M books
I'm reading Stained Glass Monsters which would have totally counted for the mini but unfortunately I already started it.I'm still narrowing down (read: choosing) my other M books. I do have a question for the mini: do series title count?
I'm excited for Jane's challenge! Very fun!I just finished
which is a romance but I started it before February so please don't count it! I want to be totally fair!

Glad you liked
Oh, I totally forgot that I'll be reading
by Karen Marie Moning! Thanks for the reminder, Melissa!!@Katie, did you like Copper Beach? I'm reading it next month and am a huge JAK fan.
@Vi - As to Series titles, I'm thinking yes - they will count. But please post the name of the series in addition to the book cover in your post. Thanks for asking!!
I'm thinking of starting: Deadhouse Gates - series title: Malazan Book of the Fallen but it's a chunky. GR is already stating that I'm 1 book behind. So I'm not sure.
@Leslie I hate to say it...I didn't really like it at all. I feel bad because I wanted to like it but it just felt a little rushed to me. I did like one of the characters though so if he appears in the next book I would be willing to pick that one up as well.
Too bad, Katie! She's one of those authors for me, even when it's not great, I still like her. Not sure what it is. I'll be interested to read it and find the character you liked!
I think I have my list for the mini-challenge. Although, I keep finding more! By tonight, I might change my mind again. :)
Oooooh, those look great, Tricia!! Are you a Lynn Kurland fan? I love her books!! I'm pretty sure I've read them all. Also, Katie MacAllister! Love her Dragon series. And Victoria Holt writes such great gothic romantic mysteries. Your list makes me jealous!!
@Tricia ~ have you read all of the Kaite MacAllister series?? Every time I go to the bookstore I see one of these but it's never the first in the series. Are they good??@Leslie - I'm like you I usually always like anything by JAK/AQ/JK even if I don't love it
Hey guys! I just wanted you all to know that I am holding a giveaway on my blog if you would like to enter! aworld-of-my-own. The prize is either of the two Grimm Diaries prequels bundles by author Cameron Jace :)
Okay so for this month mini-challenge i've read
and
, which both is in the Romance category :) Now i'm gonna start reading
But i'll update on that later when i've finished it :)
@Leslie - let me know your thoughts on
when you're done? Keep looking at this and her weather series to maybe start
@Melissa - I'm really liking this one so far. Very interesting premise. I love Rachel Caine and loved her Weather Warden series. I'm kind of a weather buff and really enjoyed all the weather talk. Plus, David (my son's name!) is such an amazingly hot Djinn. Also, if you want to read Katie MacAllister, her best books are the Dragon books. Start with
These are so much fun!@Anna - I read Graceling and liked it okay. Was this any good?
@Leslie & Melissa: Yes, I adore Lynn Kurland! I read
at least 3 times and I cry each time I read it! I once read it while sitting in a doctor's office waiting for my husband to get some x-rays done. I couldn't stop crying and afterward I wondered if the other patients in the room thought I was just really upset about my husband! I love Katie Macalister's humor!! Her books are fast-paced and hilarious! And I really enjoy her variety; vampires, dragons, historicals, contemporaries, steampunk. Her books are really great when you need a little laughter in your life. I must admit, Leslie, I like her vampires better than her dragons, but I haven't read them all yet so it's possible I might change my mind! :)
And Victoria Holt's books are wonderful! I love gothic romance! I'm really looking forward to reading this one.
I should remember to put "in my opinion" when I'm talking about books! Please just go ahead and assume it's there. @Tricia - I've been known to cry while reading Lynn Kurland as well! And I love her fantasy series. So good!
I agree with you about Katie MacAllister. She was one of the first author's I ever read that was chick lit and paranormal. I love her humor! It was a total break for me away from historicals. I remember being totally enthralled. My favorite series of hers is the Silver Dragon series which comes after Aisling Grey. I just love it!
