Rebecca NJ (njreader) | 2120 comments I have always been told that Sundays do not count. Lent is to be 40 days and from Fat Tuesday to Easter which I believe it is 48 calendar days.

No worries if the cover doesn't count. It seems to be a picture they reprinted.

~Melissa~ 11pm here - just finished my second mini challenge book and 116 classified as Romance Predatory Game (GhostWalkers, #6) by Christine Feehan

message 1003: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 2240 comments Yay Melissa!! So glad you finished it in time.

And yes, Rebecca - that's what I've learned too. But my children, who tend to be more rigid than me (strange, I know!)call it cheating. But the funniest part is - my favorite fast food place is Chik Fil A and even if I wanted to use the Sunday exception I couldn't - they are closed on Sunday!! Oh well.

Rebecca NJ (njreader) | 2120 comments I finished Wake (Watersong, #1) by Amanda Hocking this afternoon. I am going to miss my long holiday weekends :)

@Melissa - I really enjoyed it. The storyline was so different and while I hated some of the characters, I liked them at the same time. I can't wait to read Lullaby.

Glad you liked it! I felt the same way and I really want to find out what happens. Does she turn bad?? Does she stay good??

This one took me a little bit to get into but I ended up really liking it. I always liked Jesse. I had to agree with Saber though that it wasn't really right to tell the others about her. Looking forward to the next one. I'll go put it on hold :D

message 1018: by Rebecca NJ (new)

Rebecca NJ (njreader) | 2120 comments @Kristin - I really liked it. I have been interested in the Trylle series but I saw that someone had recommended Wake to Melissa for another challenge. After reading what people were saying about it, I thought I'd give it a try.

It was not what I expecting but once I really got into it, I couldn't put it down. I read 75% of it today. And like Melissa said, at the end you were left wondering if she turns bad or she stays good.

message 1019: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ I'm about 150 pgs into Dreamfever (Fever, #4) by Karen Marie Moning . I'm going to have a problem putting this one down!!

message 1020: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 2240 comments What was interesting about our two finalists is that they both read 3 books but only 2 authors. Both Kristin and Gayle read 2 books in the same series. That's never happened before.

@Melissa - I'm getting back into the Fever series next month. I'm only on #2. That's been a difficult series for me to read.
And the next CF book is actually the first one I ever read by her. I remember being absolutely floored by it. I was completely hooked but I also was very confused.

It sounds like I might have to look into The Hollow series too!

message 1023: by Marla (new)

Marla | 1803 comments Leslie wrote: "That's so funny, Rebecca!! The discussion in our house is always over the Sunday exception. Should you or shouldn't you?"

Too funny, I thought about saying that I "cheated" on Sunday, but didn't want people to judge me. My wise mom always told us to give up something Very Difficult and you can have it on Sunday. 2 years ago, I didn't cheat on Sundays and after about 3 weeks, unbelievably, I kind of forgot about chips and chocolate. But the other 25 or so years...I think about chocolate and chips EVERY day during lent and I offer up my "suffering" and I countdown until Sunday.

@Rebecca - Yup, that's what I go by.

message 1024: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 2240 comments Marla, you are so right! If I don't think about Sunday, it's so much easier. But as a mom, I can imagine saying what your mom said. At the moment I'm just working on the "offering it up" part. Without whining!!

@Kristin, private message me whenever you are ready to discuss what you want to do for a challenge.

Just finished Crystal Gardens by Amanda Quick by Amanda Quick. I love her stuff, so I was happy with this one! It qualifies for Romance.

Leslie does that mean midnight tonight which starts wednesday?

message 1030: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 2240 comments Yes, it does. Sorry if that wasn't clear. Thanks for helping me clarify, Marguerite!

message 1031: by [deleted user] (new)

Leslie thank you and you are welcome!!! I can be a wee bit dense at times.lol So just wanted to be sure.rofl

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 2240 comments Marguerite wrote: "Leslie thank you and you are welcome!!! I can be a wee bit dense at times.lol So just wanted to be sure.rofl"

Marguerite - you help me to clarify and be specific. It's good for me as I tend to talk in generalities and assume everyone will get it. My husband is an engineer and does that for me as well! So thank you!

message 1033: by [deleted user] (new)

Leslie you are very welcome!!! My Hubby is also an engineer so I know what you mean. But the two of us are the same which can be a pain at times.lol

message 1034: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 2240 comments Marguerite - that's funny. My husband and I are the opposite from each other. I see a forest first and then trees and he sees "tree, tree, tree, okay maybe we have a forest but I need more information before I can make a decision". While I'm beside him jumping up and down and screaming "its' a forest!!". My youngest daughter is a really interesting mix of the two of us. She sees bark and thinks "it could be either a dog or a tree. Need more information"! And then she gets all emotional over the fact that she can't decide! Makes me crazy. She is the last one at home so I'm surrounded by two detail crazy people.

message 1035: by [deleted user] (new)

Leslie ya know you love it and wouldn't have it any other way.rofl

message 1036: by Rebecca NJ (last edited Feb 20, 2013 01:54AM) (new)

Rebecca NJ (njreader) | 2120 comments Great task Kristen! Definetly had me searching the shelves last night. I think I found two that might work -

All Fall Down by Megan Hart ( I see a dark and stormy sky) and Bittersweet Rain by Sandra Brown which has "rain" in the title.

message 1037: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 2240 comments I know, Rebecca! It was harder than I thought at first. I like your selections! I'm still looking over what to read next that will work.

message 1038: by [deleted user] (last edited Feb 20, 2013 08:32AM) (new)

Just finished Love Anthony by Lisa Genova and I enjoyed it. It is also for the weather mini challenge.

Just started

Becoming Odyssa by Jennifer Pharr Davis and the cover actually looks like https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&a... (the bookcover with the girl with a backpack on holding a walking stick). This will be my next weather cover book once I have read it.

message 1039: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 2240 comments Thanks, Marguerite! I have come up with several books I think will work for the weather mini challenge.

message 1040: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Would the world sea found for weather? sorry if this is stupid :p

message 1041: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 2240 comments Well, I was going to try and read The Tin Roof Blowdown (Dave Robicheaux, #16) by James Lee Burke this week for the challenge. But I just can't do it. Having experienced Katrina first hand, I am still not ready to read about it, even in fiction. Oh well, on to another book!

message 1042: by Michelle (new)

Michelle My above question no longer matters lol. I have decided to read Bluff by Lenore Skomal and Blood Skies (Blood Skies, #1) by Steven Montano

message 1043: by JenniferJ (new)

JenniferJ | 202 comments So far this month these are the books I have read that I can use for the Romance Monthly Challenge.

No Exchanges, No Returns (Return to Redemption, #4) by Laurie Kellogg Married By Christmas by Scarlett Bailey

message 1044: by JenniferJ (new)

JenniferJ | 202 comments If a book you reads fits both the Romance and the Weather Mini can you use the same book for both?

message 1045: by Rebecca NJ (new)

Rebecca NJ (njreader) | 2120 comments @Jennifer - you can use the same book for both challenges. All you need to do is say that when you post your covers.

message 1046: by JenniferJ (new)

JenniferJ | 202 comments ok thanks Rebecca! :)

message 1047: by Marisa (new)

Marisa | 2 comments Hi guys, just to clarify because I am new... I have created a shelf called black humor which sports books like Slaughterhouse Five, Catch 22, Fight Club, and A Clockwork Orange. From what I understand, the challenge is to read books from that shelf, correct? Does it have to be a specific genre like Romance or Fiction or can it be like something I created? Or are there set shelves?

message 1048: by Rebecca NJ (new)

Rebecca NJ (njreader) | 2120 comments Hi Marisa and welcome!

Your shelf name can be anything you want to name it and for this challenge you can read anything you want (as long as it was started after January 1st and is not a graphic novel, manga, or children's picture books). Once you mark it as "read" and put it on that shelf, it will count towards the team goal.

This team is doing special side challenges as part of the fun. We had a month long challenge which ends on February 24th where we could read a book that was shelved as "romance" by 10 people. The winner of that challenge gets to select the March month long challenge. Another mini challenge through Sunday is all about the weather.

message 1049: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 2240 comments Hi Marisa, welcome to Team D!! I'm excited to see what you are reading!

@Kristin - I read the entire Weather Wardens series last year and loved it!! It is a crazy ride. Enjoy.

@Michelle - love those covers!

I finished Portrait in Death (In Death, #16) by J.D. Robb which qualifies for the Romance challenge. Loved it!!
And now I'm starting Stolen Heat (Stolen Trilogy #2) by Elisabeth Naughton which works for both the mini challenge and the romance challenge.

message 1050: by Tricia (new)

Tricia Schneider (triciaschneider) | 115 comments I just finished In the Company of Vampires (Dark Ones, #8) by Katie MacAlister that will count for the romance challenge. Not sure if I'll be able to participate in the mini challenge. I started reading My Heart Stood Still (MacLeod, #7) by Lynn Kurland which will probably occupy me for the weekend. But if I finish early, I have at least 2 books that will qualify.
