The Rules on Recommending:
- It can be a book or a graphic novel.
- It MUST be fairy-tale related! That means it can belong to any genre but must have a clear link to a fairy-tale somehow. Think fairy-tale retellings or fantasy books written in a fairy-tale style. It doesn't have to be a classic fairy tale, it can be new or modern, it just have to link to themes of fairy-tales like if it involves magic, prophecies, curses, fantastical creatures like fairies or witches, etc.
- The book or graphic novel must be in English or translated to English.
- They can be MG, YA, Adult or New Adult.
- If the book/graphic novel is part of a series please only recommend the first in the series.
- You can recommend as many books or graphic novels as you like to be added to our list but try to keep it to 3-4.

Dr. Block I'd like to recommend Annabelle the Reluctant Fart Fairy, which is a MG book. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

I read it to my kids a few years ago and they laughed a lot. The story has a good message about overcoming adversity.

message 3: by Pearl (new)

Pearl The School foor Good and Evil by Soman Chainani is a YA 6 book series that I just get an overdose of childhood fairytale vibes from!

message 4: by AurorainBookland (last edited Nov 15, 2021 09:17AM) (new)

AurorainBookland MG series Whatever After by Sarah Mlynowski, the main character visits a different fairy tale in each book its super cute and each book is not too long. Heres book 1 Fairest of All (Whatever After, #1) by Sarah Mlynowski
Im plannimg on reading book 3, I was so happy to find a copy at a used bookstore.

AurorainBookland My Fair Godmother (My Fair Godmother, #1) by Janette Rallison by by Janette Rallison
This series is good Ive only read the first 2 books.

message 6: by Anita (new)

Anita The Prince and the Dressmaker did a fine job of turning Cinderella on its head, I thought. GN. I almost never read GNs. It has a drink to sloppy inebriation scene which is more relatable to adults, I actually thought, so maybe NA?

message 7: by AurorainBookland (last edited Nov 15, 2021 09:29AM) (new)

AurorainBookland And for my 3rd and last books are ones I havent read. All my books are MG

Wishful thinking by Amanda Ashby Wishful Thinking (Sophie's Mixed-Up Magic, #1) by Amanda Ashby book 1 in a series

Zoe in Wonderland by Woods, Brenda
Zoe in Wonderland by Brenda Woods

@Dr Block @AurorainBookland thanks, I'll add those books to the poll above!

@Patronusgranger12 aha I was just waiting for someone to recommend that one for the list! I was thinking of it myself but I'd already recommended 4 books so I didn't want to go overboard.

@Anita I've heard of that one! Didn't realise it was a graphic novel though. According to its goodreads page it's classified as YA but considering the drinking scene you mentioned it's probably somewhere inbetween YA and NA.

Kadi P Mod
@Aurora I definitely agree! There are some great books on this list already!

message 11: by Mary (new)

Mary Mecham Ugly: The Stepsister’s Story is a great one!!! It is the Cinderella story from the stepsister’s point of view, and gives the backstory to the stepfamily (what happened to the father, that the two sisters were raised in the castle along with the royal family, which is why they can’t cook/ clean…)

Really great YA novel!!!

message 12: by Kadi (new)

Kadi P Mod
That sounds like a really interesting concept Mary! I'll add the book to the poll above!

message 15: by Kadi (new)

@Audrey ooh those Princess books have such pretty covers! Preferably we're sticking to max 4 recommendations per person so do you want me to choose 4 from those 5 or is there 1 you don't mind not being added to the list?

message 16: by finn (new)

finn Ahh it was so hard for me to pick just 4! Fairy tale retellings are my favorite things ever, so I’m super excited for this!

Ella Enchanted
A Tale of Magic...
Heartless
What Once Was Mine

message 17: by Critter (new)

Critter I have three books to recommend, the first two are YA and the last one is MG:
Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow by Jessica Day George
Among the Beasts & Briars by Ashley Poston
The Goose Girl (The Books of Bayern, #1) by Shannon Hale

message 19: by Lynn (new)

Lynn Olivia Twisted (Olivia Twisted, #1) by Vivi Barnes - Modern Day Oliver Twist retelling. YA romance

Beastly (Beastly, #1; Kendra Chronicles, #1) by Alex Flinn - Modern Beauty and the Beast. YA romance

Scarlet (Scarlet, #1) by A.C. Gaughen - Robin Hood retelling with a female Scarlet - YA adventure romance

Making Faces by Amy Harmon - Another YA Beauty and the Beast retelling, but this book is so much more.

Tiger's Curse (The Tiger Saga, #1) by Colleen Houck - YA romance about a curse that turns a prince into a tiger for 1/2 of each day.

Scorched (Scorched, #1) by Mari Mancusi - YA love triangle about a girl fated to be the master of a dragon.

Kira (Shadow of the Dragon, #1) by Kate O'Hearn - Another dragon story - middle grade

I Am Princess X by Cherie Priest - Middle grade about two girls who write a web comic about a princess and one girl disappears.

Story Thieves (Story Thieves, #1) by James Riley - Middle grade about kids living the stories in books.

The Alchemyst (The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel, #1) by Michael Scott - Middle grade prophecy and magic

I've read and enjoyed all of these. I know you won't want to use them all, so pick whichever books seem the best for this readathon.

message 20: by Audrey (new)

Audrey I own a copy of Story Thieves, and The Alchemyst is on my list.

message 21: by Kadi (last edited Nov 16, 2021 03:26AM) (new)

@Grace @Critter I've added you books above!

@Lynn ooh so many choices! It was really hard to choose because apparently they're all divisive books and for every good review they had there was a bad one too which made me really confused. But like Audrey I've had my eye on Story Thieves for a while so that one was a definite choice. And I had a friend recently read The Alchemyst so I'm curious about that one too. As for the 3rd choice, Olivia Twisted, I like that it's a retelling of a story not yet on the list so it adds variety.

@Audrey I've chosen from your books and added them above too! Princess of the Midnight Ball looks great, I'd forgotten how many YA romance fairy-tale retellings there are out there.

message 22: by Dalia (new)

Dalia Jen Calonita flunked fairy tale reform school series, Serena Valentino series, The girl who drank the moon, William Ritter Changling series, Liz Braswell Straight on Til Morning: A Twisted Tale, Any of the twisted Tale series-they are good.

message 23: by AurorainBookland (new)

AurorainBookland Fairy tale reform school series is amazing.

Yes, I've become aware recently that there are some issues regarding The Tiger's Curse Saga. It makes me so sad, because I really loved that series. It brought me back to reading for enjoyment after many years away.

message 25: by Cat (new)

Cat Carstairs Beastkeeper by Cat Hellisen is a good fairy tale-esque novel!

message 26: by Haniya (new)

Haniya i want to recommend pages and co book 2 it will only make since with book one but both ae book related.
Tilly and the Lost Fairytales
also this story
Red: The True Story of Red Riding Hood
i haven't read it yet but want to

message 27: by Haniya (new)

Haniya also my favourite Connie Glynn series i didn't know if it counts
Undercover Princess

message 28: by Kadi (new)

Kadi P Mod
@Lynn yeah I saw that in a few of the reviews and I was really sad because I thought the concept of The Tiger's Curse sounded really great! Surely it couldn't be as bad as everyone made it out to be? I'm really curious but I also have commitment issues. I mean I didn't add it to the poll above but maybe I should give it a try anyway. I always hesitate like this before starting a new book I'm uncertain of because I don't like committing my time to something that could turn out to not be good.

message 29: by Kadi (last edited Nov 18, 2021 06:39AM) (new)

Kadi P Mod
@Dalia I already added the first book from the fairy tale reform school as one of my recommendations so it's already on the list. As for the others, given you've already added 1 recommendation to the poll, you only have 3 left. Would you like me to randomly pick 3 from what you've suggested or do you want to choose them?

@Haniya I've added book 1 from the Page & Co. series but not book 2 even though that's the one you wanted to add because if someone gets book 2 from the random picker then they won't be able to read it without having read book 1 first making that a redundant spin of the random picker wheel for them. Hopefully that makes sense to you!
I've added the other 2 books and also I'd say Undercover Princess counts. It's not technically a fairy tale story but it has the right elements so that's good enough! I've been hearing about that one I think from a previous event so maybe I'll finally get around to reading it next month!

message 30: by Audrey (new)

Audrey I thought Tiger's Curse was decent. The first was the best. There is a Mary Sue and a love triangle but I liked the Indiana Jones-style adventure elements.

message 31: by Audrey (new)

Audrey I think I have Fairy Eyeglasses on my Kindle -- that's an indie author, and I think she lives somewhere near me. I think there's a whole series of Fairy short stories.

You can randomly pick 3 from the list-I wouldn't be able to choose rofl.

message 33: by Deborah (new)

Deborah Duncan I would like to add The Spindle and the Sleeper by Neil Gaiman. It's a sophisticated version of Sleeping Beauty with incredible illustrations by Chris Riddell. Interesting for adults and tweens and older.

message 34: by Kadi (new)

Kadi P Mod
@Audrey we seem to have quite a few indie books on our list this time! First readathon we've ever had that really so that's quite interesting to see.

@Dalia ok I chose 3 and added them above!
@Deborah I've added it to the poll above!

message 35: by arin (new)

arin hi kadi, i just added Mirror Mirror to the poll. just to clarify because there are other books with the same title 😂 also, thank you so much for hosting this readathon, i'm very excited to read these books 😆

message 36: by Kadi (new)

Kadi P Mod
@Arin thanks for clarifying! So many of the books on this list have other books with the same name and it's so confusing😩 I'm compiling the list now for the random picker and I can't wait to start reading for this readathon soon too!
