Twilight is bothersome. I mean vampires aren't supposed to sparkle!! The books on this list are true superiors to Twilight.

Sharon wrote: "I would have to agree vampires that sparkle????? what next lycans that purr???? thank goodness someone came up with a list that did not include Twilight"That's true . . . .I mean seriously, Twilight's not all that it's cracked up to be . . . but just the sparkling vampire fact alone irks me soooooooo much . . . . . I am sad to say that I own a copy of each book in the series *groans* who knows why . . .
Sharon wrote: "I would have to agree vampires that sparkle????? what next lycans that purr???? thank goodness someone came up with a list that did not include Twilight"I'm with you there.
I didnt read the book since when I went to watch the first movie I was reading the first pages... So everything was still kind of a surprise to me. I give my respects for the authoress either way because its a good story. But thats it. A good story. Not the-one-and-only-vampire story there is. Please, god, no.
Some of the things that irked me was these sparkling affair and the off chemistry between Edward and Bella. Not off in the human-vampire sense, but in the really OFF sense. Twilight is for children... its the only way I can see it.
About the purring... I think that would be fine. Hot actually. Why didnt you come with this idea before the woman threw the sparkling thing?
Lycans and purring do not go together at all infact no self respecting lycan would purr, but howling yes that is a big turn on especially when my other half does it Arrroooooooooo.......
Yeah, I agree with ya. Totally. But the glittery vampires are just an absurd. A ridiculous one.
I gotta say my favorite from the family, if I were to choose, is Jasper. He looks the most real to me.
Yes Jasper is the only real looking one amongst them would have to agree with you completely.
Have you read any of the Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles???? I have read all of them except the last two but will get around to them eventually :)

hmmm wasn't this list about non twilight books????? if so why is there a twilight book on the list????????
If this list is for non-twilight books, then why is twilight #97 on the list??????????? that's sort of oposing the non-twilight-ness.
Hm... Yeah, I think because is a "non-Twilight" list, removing would be the choice. I, myself, though like to see Twilight in a such low rank for once. Sharon: Nooo... I havent read Anne Rice's books. I've had Interview with the vampire and the second one from the chronicles in my hands once but I didnt read them. But I will!
Have you read "Vampire Academy" by Mead?
Hmmm people people, people, where have your manners gone? a simple could you remove the twilight book and a simple thank you when it was removed would not have hurt at all. So if no one else will I will say thank you for the removal of the book :)
Just because we are all communicating via a website does not mean that our manners should go out the window!!!!!
You may all say that my comment was harsh regarding the book being included on the list but in fact it was just an enquiry.....like I said people where are the manners???? Thank you :)

Twilight wasn't good, and nor are the books that are trying to copy it. I read some of the books on this list and they are as much of a waste of time as Twilight was. I think authors should think of something else than vampires. The entire concept has gotten unattractive.

Has anybody read the book on this list called Lasher by Ann Rice??? Hello! its not a vampire book!!!!
Attention please: there are several versions of Dracula by Bram Stoker on list.I guess that's why it's not on top.
Anyway, this list is useful: I got to know a lot of more vampire books. Would someone be so kind to recommend me some as 'to-read' ?
Princess in Waiting, Queen of Babble, and Lasher aren't vampire books. Could someone please remove them? Thanks=)
Sarah wrote: "Princess in Waiting, Queen of Babble, and Lasher aren't vampire books. Could someone please remove them? Thanks=)"i f you are looking for a great paranormal romance read Hex Hall and Demonglass! They are spectacular!!

grace thank youu but i actually have picked up those books but couldn't really get into them i just finished the darkest night by gena showalter and i loved it. I can't seem to beable to go back to the books iv'e read and the ones i am reading now ! Do you know any books that are great along the lines of J.r Ward or Gena Showalter?
Hi! great list :) However, I saw some books that (as far I remember) have no vampires on them: "The Mummy" and "The Withching Hour" by Ann Rice, for example. Also, if you want to read some good vampire books, I recommend "Anno Dracula", "Draculas", "The Keep", and "Midnight Mass". They feature scary vampires, so if you're into paranormal romance, those are definitely not for you. (except Anno Dracula, it sort of has a tiny romance flavor to it. :))
You could add them; it's easy to add books to lists. At the top of the list, at the tab next to "all votes."
who-ho thanks a lot ^_^I am not a fan of twilight too, I just hate those immature lead. I only read a few chapter and give up to the point of not reading vampire for a while too.
but now I am vampire crazed thanks to the new movie Underworld:awakening , just the type of female lead I like. Underworld this here is the novel version and it has more detail and character in depth than the movie.
badass female lead, no sparkly vamp and action packed with romance.
I didn't hate the Twilight books, although I disliked the vampires on it, they had no real badass spine. I like classic vampires with a true survival-of-the-fittest instinct. The books on the list are (at least the ones I've read) truly superior. I think Twilight was written thinking of dreamy teenies who would fall for the handsome sparkly fairy-vamp... I loved the handsome badass vamp who will only change his ways for THE one... Bram Stoker's Drac... and as for the film... the Twilight ones I hated with soul... while Gary Oldman played Stoker's Drac to the last pore and I swear I'd have loved to be his ONE.

it was OK, but you might like it. Two of my favorite authors are Kerrelyn Sparks and Sherrilyn Kenyon. Kenyon is definitely my favorite adult writer. Good YA recommendation... I'm reading this book
right now and it's pretty good. That's all I think about right now.
Heather wrote: "The witching hour books are about....witches!!"Ahhh yes, but witches who know of vampires and ghosts, who eventually know Lestat!
Yes but They don't meet the vampires until The Vampire Chronicles in 9th book called Blackwood Farm. The Mayfair witch books are about the Mayfair family And Laser Which is a Taltos, not technically a ghost. But a taltos trying to be reborn.

is Underworld a novelization of the movie or is it a book they based the movie on?

Oh, it's so nice to see a list of vampire fiction without that ridiculous crap on it!However, how is Harry Potter a vampire book? Because vampires exist in their universe? They're not even important characters, even in a tertiary sense. Strange choice.
