Bettie

Read all of Blyton's as a nipper - secret seven was IT for me.

message 2: by Aysha (new)

Aysha Malory towers is the best of all!!

Themis-Athena (Lioness at Large) For me it was the Famous Five and the St. Clare's series (in their German incarnations, "Fünf Freunde" and "Hanni und Nanni," respectively).

My youngest sister loved the Famous Five particularly as well -- so much so that she named her (black and white, Husky/Pomeranian/various undefined species) pet dog Timmy!

message 4: by Aysha (new)

Aysha I used to like the Famous Five but looking back it seems a bit kiddish!Anyway St.Clare's series are also nice but very similar to Malory Towers!

message 5: by Geevee (new)

Geevee Famous Five for me, with the added joy of reading the hardback original Hodder and Stoughton editions that my uncle lent me (sans dustwrapper) when I was a young lad - happy days.

I also recall reading Mr Twiddle too...

Laiba Wahab Hi Friends,
I am Laiba. Actually I am just 11 years old as a high school's student. I just love to read. Books are my heart they are my BFF. Especially Enid Blyton's books.
I have red lots of books of it. They are written in very
easy words and they are full of fantasy and fun.
My school's library have lots of editions of it. I have red all. That's fun.

message 19: by Smudge77 (last edited Nov 11, 2015 06:43AM) (new)

Smudge77 Can anyone help?
I have been trying to find a book, books, that I thought were written by Enid Blyton and I read as a child. But online searches are not helping.
They were about a family called the Buckinghams, and at least the first one was called (I think), 'The Buckinghams of Buckinghamshire.'
I think the mother had a 'friend' - possibly called Uncle Bill [although I may be getting mixed up with Uncle Bill (?) in the Five 'Adventure' series].

Do you mean the books by Malcolm Saville? :)

message 21: by Fiona (new)

Fiona Hurley I removed A Complete Guied to Acupressure, Romeo and Juliet, The Cuckoo's Calling, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and Gone Girl. None of these books were written by Enid Blyton or are in any way connected to her. They're not even aimed at the same readership!

message 22: by Ian (new)

Ian Wardell Five on a Treasure Island?? I think there is a confusion here between the best and the most widely read! None of the famous five books are anywhere near the best. And amongst the ff it'll be "five fall into adventure" or "five go on a hike together" that are the best ones.

The best Blyton for older children is "the secret island". For younger children "the magic wishing chair again".

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Listopias, especially if they acquire many voters (as this one has), tend to mostly measure popularity. It's the nature of the beast.

Fiona Hurley Ian wrote: "Five on a Treasure Island?? I think there is a confusion here between the best and the most widely read! "

I imagine for most people, they're voting for the first in the series as a representative for the whole series. I have fond memories of the Famous Five books, but I read them so long ago that they're plots merge into one. I voted for "Five Goes to Smuggler's Top" as it's the only plot I have any clear memories of, and even that is rather blurred at this distance.

I have read the famous five as an adult, and Five fall into adventure (num 9) I found the best. "Five Goes to Smuggler's Top" (num 4) I found the 7th best.

But the famous five series were nowhere near the best Blyton books. Maybe something like:

The magic wishing chair again
The secret island
House at the corner
The family at red roofs
