lethe I am not sure what is meant by "and consider them your personal favourites". I won't know that until I've read them. Should I just add (up to 10) books I plan to read and remove them again when they have turned out to be a disappointment?

I was thinking the same thing.

BookLovingLady (deceased Jan. 25, 2023...) @lethe
'personal favourites' is the reason you want to read them most. (And yes, they may turn out to be a disappointment after reading...)

I agree. Just because I really want to read a book, it doesn't mean that I shall then consider it a personal favourite, even if it's by a favourite author of mine such as Hilary Mantel.

message 5: by lethe (new)

lethe I see the list description has been modified :)

message 6: by BookLovingLady (deceased Jan. 25, 2023...) (last edited Jan 10, 2021 02:06AM) (new)

BookLovingLady (deceased Jan. 25, 2023...) I'll remove 'personal favourites' 🙂

message 7: by Angela (new)

Angela Actually I wish you did NOT remove your personal favorites.

Is it the list description you're referring to? If so, could you let me know why? Thanks!

message 9: by Angela (new)

Angela This list. I would lo e to know your personal favorites.

message 10: by Reader (new)

Reader We won't know if they're personal favorites or not until we read them.

BookLovingLady (deceased Jan. 25, 2023...) Angela wrote: "This list. I would lo e to know your personal favorites."

My personal favourites can be found by looking at my 'read' bookshelf (and then sorting it by rating), as there are a lot of them...

This list is for books we want to read in 2021, not for books we have already read and consider our personal favourites.

BookLovingLady (deceased Jan. 25, 2023...) I have much more than ten books on my shelves that I want to read. My 'personal favourites' (books that I most want to read 😉) are partly based on 'hear say', on books I've read by the same author, and so on and so forth.

message 14: by Angela (new)

Angela Thank you. Yes for what we have not read, but are planning to read for this year. I get it now duh.
I work at a bookstore so its all a never ending story for me.
No period , only commas.

So have I 😀 But I daren't look too far ahead. I often plan to read certain books and then things get in the way and the books are left for another year (I couldn't say how long The Slynx has been residing on my "books to read first" list!).

Also, I fear I have made a tentative New Year's resolution to read several books that I probably won't want to keep after reading, thereby creating some much-needed space. It wouldn't do to add those to this Listopia 😉

It is so hard for me to get rid of books. Even the ones I don't like ...

Helene Hanff helped me enormously with that, many years ago. And Marie Kondo gave me an extra push, with her "hold each item in your hand and ask if it sparks joy". That way, I was f.e. able to get rid of a few Ian McEwan books and most of my Fay Weldons, all of which I had kept through the years as a matter of course.
