7638 I always hope to inspire other readers, but I don't feel terribly successful in my own kids. Neither is a huge reader - which is a sad irony considering how much my son loves WRITING! I get so frustrated that he doesn't work harder to inform his own writing by reading more.

7638 But that’s why God gave us Kindles! They let us enlarge the print at will! <3

7638 So, where did you catch your reading bug? I'm always interested in the story of how an avid reader is inspired.

My mother and I are big readers - and nearly everyone I know on my mom's side of our family reads voraciously.

I don't remember not reading. My mom read to my sister and I all the time - I remember one of the bedtime "stories" I chose was Heidi Mom read a chapter a night, despite my sister's irritation and my own obnoxious attempts to read with her.

I was reading by myself at age 4 and into the chapter books of Trixie Belden and Nancy Drew in Kindergarten. I don't remember NOT reading in the car, in the bathroom, at breakfast or locking my sister out of our room so I could read BY MYSELF!

What about you guys???

The next longest for me were:

SO - I read The Witching Hour too - so that would be longer I guess...but I don't even remember that being terribly long???

7638 so - I did go in with no expectations. I liked it. The book caught me right away, the writing was good, pulled me in, and the story was well-done and the mystery was well hidden until it could fall into place. I liked it a lot, and am interested to see the next in the series.

7638 I read this over a few days - It was good, but I wasn't wowed by it. Thanks Jen - I totally felt the same. Meh.

7638 I didn't know there were two additional books!!! I will have to read those. My husband's favorite cousin is married to a lovely man, born in China and who still has a lot of Chinese traditions in his family. I loved reading this book, and the craziness that follows the families who are trying to follow the family traditions while still being modern day normalcy is so much fun to read.

7638 I adore mine too....my mom says she doesn’t want one. BUT - if I get her one and load it with Agatha Christie...

7638 There are also so many cozy mystery series that are interesting and not gory.

Have you thought about a Kindle? I'm seriously considering getting one for my mom for her birthday. It's so easy to send her books, and she's lost some strength, and a kindle is a small size that can hold lots of books!

7638 I haven't either, but was interested in her when I read some stories about Ernest Hemingway and F Scott Fitzgerald, as she was part of that crowd of ex-patriots.

Stephen King agrees with you! I'm re-reading Bag of Bones and he quotes from Rebecca, and calls the dreams he has "The Manderley dreams".

7638 Series! Love falling in love with series...and then revisiting them like old friends!

Little Women, Little Men, Jo's Boys by Louisa May Alcott

Anne of Green Gables Series AND The Story Girl Series by L.M. Montgomery

The Complete Harry Potter Collection Box Set (Harry Potter, #1-7) by J.K. Rowling

The Prey Series (Lucas Davenport, #1-21) by John Sandford (I've been reading about Lucas for over 20 years now...

The MaddAddam Trilogy Oryx and Crake; The Year of the Flood; MaddAddam by Margaret Atwood is also one of my favorites.

Fun, fluffy series I love are:

The Black Dagger Brotherhood An Insider's Guide (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #6.5) by J.R. Ward

Sookie Stackhouse Series Set (Volume 1-12) by Charlaine Harris

Stephanie Plum Series Collection (Stephanie Plum, #12-16) by Janet Evanovich

7638 Hmmm - counting series as books is a fun concept! It certainly throws a lot more books in the mix.

Stand alone have been Stephen King - The Stand by Stephen King at 1153 pages

The series is probably close as well - 4250 pages
The Dark Tower Series Collection The Gunslinger, The Drawing of the Three, The Waste Lands, Wizard and Glass, Wolves of the Calla, Song of Susannah, The Dark Tower by Stephen King

it is closely followed by The Harry Potter series at 4224 pages
Harry Potter Boxset (Harry Potter, #1-7) by J.K. Rowling

For drinks, it's very much time and place. The 3 drinks I can't live without are Coffee, Coke and Wine - like Petra, I prefer dry, sweet is just not my thing.

7638 I can fill the “on a blanket” bingo spot with The Dry.

Also, started Bag of Bones while sipping a glass of wine.

7638 Hi guys!!! Playing catch up - but I’m excited to jump in.
Aug 04, 2018 02:35PM

7638 I'm struggling with this one. I am not sure if it's not for me or the wrong time...but I'm not enjoying it much, so I've distracted myself from it with other books.

7638 I know - we do office lottery ticket buys when the pots are big. :) I dream of being one of those offices who all retire at once. :)

7638 Hello. I have a confession.

I am the weak link.

I have sent Tanya a box of 3 books - and I apologize for the delay.

Sorry, Bees.

7638 I would be much better at getting to my books if my job did t take up so much time.
