For all of my teacher friends - and honestly, any parent of a high school aged teen, I devoured
in fewer than 24 hours. I gave it 5 stars.

Hello Bees! Thanksgiving is done and we are on the year-end slide! I hope that you've all had a wonderful 2018.
If you're at all like me, you have accumulated more books than you've read (again) this year. In an effort to read what we own, I'm looking for suggestions for challenges that we can implement monthly to read what's on our shelves. These challenges would also count in our Hive challenge.
I'm looking forward to your suggestions!

@Petra - I actually love the honesty. Too many good books to waste time with one that either doesn't speak to you, or, worse, speaks in all the wrong ways!

I tried to read this one about ten years ago, so shortly after it won. I wasn't able to get into it and didn't finish. I will be interested to see what you all think, it could have just been the wrong time for me and that book.

When I got back into reading and discovered how great our local library is, I had no idea what to read, so I printed the Pulitzer list and started working my way through it. There were several hits and misses...but then I found the Bee's and my TBR will never be the same. :)

I'm late to this party, but I loved reading about other Bee's bookish habits. I had no idea what an amazing deal Scrib'd is. I'll have to check that out!
Do you prefer to read paper books or ebooks?
I'm one of those "it depends" people. I love both. I tend to go in streaks, but the fact that my Kindle needs charging can be a drag when I'm in the middle of a book.
Do you prefer super long books?
I prefer them when they are written by Stephen King. I will also read the chunksters on my Kindle because the bulk of the super-long ones are harder to manage.
Do you read classics?
I have read a lot of classics, but actively I bet I only read one a year. I have several on my shelves and in my Kindle.
What genre's are your favorites?
Literary fiction and thrillers
Do you 'collect' books in your home?
I do! I love having books around me. I have a room that is my library, and I was actually just telling my husband that I need more shelves. :)
Are you a big book buyer or do you prefer the library?
I buy more than borrow, but I do use my library for eBooks when I'm unsure of whether I'm going to really like a book, but want to give it a shot.
Do you go to book events in your community?
There isn't a ton of opportunity here, but there is a Writer's Conference hosted annually by the University of North Dakota, and when there are authors there I'm interested in I make it over. Cheryl Strayed was a guest a few years ago, so I have some autographed books from her, as well as from other authors who have participated in the Writer's Conference.

I remember the GRE...and yeah, the math portion was abysmal for me. The last math I took was as a junior in high school...so I was in no way capable of any graduate level maths.
ND voted all Republican this cycle. :( I'm getting pretty cynical about elections and politics after the past 2 years, but it looks like we're getting a lot of new faces in the House of Representatives, which is exciting.

Hello Rachel! I loved reading your intro. My husband also doesn't usually tell me I have too many books, and I too started with classics. My mom gave me her collection of Nancy Drew and every year got me additional classics. My favorites were the Anne of Green Gables series and Little Women and Jo's Boys.
As an avid grown up reader I have read a lot of new publications and find that I need to set goals to go back to classics.
I hope you have fun here! Welcome to our hive. :)

Welcome Diana! I'm in North Dakota - and reading about Texans is making me crave some sunshine! One of my dearest friends lives in Plano, and another lives near San Marcos, so I get to Texas close to annually. It's a lovely state.

Welcome Margot!
My husband is an artist, so he has also subscribed to Audible because he decided he'd like to listen to some of the books I love while he's painting. It's been fun to see him get into books! We have been married for almost 20 years, and in the past year he's listened to several books. It's so fun to be able to share some of my book passions with him, and cool that after so many years he can still surprise me.

How has everyone's experience been? Any favorites so far? I've enjoyed all the books I read, so far
and
have been my favorites.

@Alison - I’m sorry, it is too late.

Halloween is my mom’s birthday, so my kids and I went to her house, my aunt came to visit and my sister brought her kiddos in their Pirate attire. Kasia painted a shirt like a slice of watermelon - she looked pretty cute!

Good morning Bees! I got up super early so I could bring my girl to her ortho appointment. I already need a nap. There is a tiny pot of coffee...but I have my kindle, so at least I can get some reading time in!
Rumor has it that there is an election...I voted last week. I am excited for the ads to end!
What are you all doing this week?

Hi! I have sent out assignments as best as possible with the information given to me. :) Have fun - and if you have received a message asking for your mailing details, please reply ASAP.

So, I have 13 participants and 10 addresses! Help me help Santa, please.

You're right - my kiddos are pretty fantastic. :) Gabe now drives, which does help a lot. I try not to think of how much his driving terrifies me as I see he and Kasia drive off together.

Hi all - I'm again in the "sandwich" role, this time with my husband's parents. My mother-in-law is in the moderate stages of Alzheimer's Disease, and my father-in-law has cancer. So, we are again figuring out how to take care of our parents while navigating parenting our teenagers and managing our own careers. There aren't enough hours in the day.
and yet...
I still have more books on my shelves and kindle than I've managed to read. I love my husband, my kiddos, my house...and my bookish friends here at the Bees.
So, apologies for being in and out. I don't know how to do everything yet. But I swear with enough stickers, planners and books, I'll try figure it out!

I managed to choose
and
(This was one of my favorite books of the year, but I read it in Net Galley form, so I figured it is time to get it on my REAL shelf.)
