7638 What does your writing schedule look like? Do you shoot for hours or pages? Do you have a spot devoted to writing?

7638 I’m awful!!! I let this slip my mind before my vacation.

7638 Your walking sounds much more ambitious than my reading! A week at the lake was a little more even keel, but I’m still Mom/Auntie and required to do the dishes and meals and laundry...

I love books about readers too. You may have read these already, but they are some of my favorites!

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend by Katarina Bivald The Lost for Words Bookshop by Stephanie Butland

7638 I love sitting outside on our deck and reading, but I have pale skin that burns in 15 minutes or so. The deck is on the East side of the house, so in the afternoon it's good for not receiving direct sunlight and letting me enjoy the vitamin D.

7638 I am floundering my way through piles too. I'm at this very obnoxious phase where I've been putting all my new books in my bedroom, because I was trying to keep the books I haven't read yet in my room, as that's where I do a good chunk of my reading. However, the bookshelf I have in our room is full. And so now there are books on top of the bookshelf, and books on top of the dresser, and on my nightstand, and...yeah. My husband is no longer amused. I have to get some serious sorting done!

7638 I LOVE reading this! So, I'm back from vacation and only finished 2 books
The Outsider by Stephen King
The Animators by Kayla Rae Whitaker

and I started a Kindle book -
The Position by Meg Wolitzer

The rest of the stack that made the trip back and forth were:

One True Thing by Anna Quindlen Nobody's Fool by Richard Russo Child 44 (Leo Demidov, #1) by Tom Rob Smith The Anomaly by Michael Rutger The Heart's Invisible Furies by John Boyne The House of Impossible Beauties by Joseph Cassara Perfect Little World by Kevin Wilson

7638 My uncle is really big into genealogy and my mother in law Cheryl got interested in it too, and would do research with her sister. Cheryl is actually Mike's step-mother, so there isn't any actual blood relationship, but she wanted to get our "profiles" added to her family tree. So, a couple years later, Cheryl is struggling with dementia, and her sister is handling the Ancestry.com stuff, and my uncle keeps contacting her about being related, as my profile matches his...I don't know how many times she's asked about an email he's sent her asking how we're related...

7638 I too love cooking, but dislike baking. I don’t even much care if I eat baked goods or not, but a batch of sautéed mushrooms with steak? Yes please!

I love my planner, and when I have time I will sit and play with stickers and post pictures in it so it becomes the story of that year.

7638 I’m excitedly packing for a week on a beautiful Minnesota lake...and while clothes and swimsuits can be washed, I’m wondering how many books I should bring. I’d also love to hear some suggestions as well!

I’M SUPER EXCITED!

7638 I’m guessing not a pile...it’s fantastic that you have a sister willing to read and critique. That’s a hard role.

I really loved Other People’s Houses - and while it clearly had a sense of humor, there were some pretty serious issues as well. I find as I’ve approached and passed 40, I feel like pure marital fidelity counts for a lot less than it used to (at least in my own head) I remember thinking that an affair was an absolute deal breaker in my 20’s...but now with the weight of 20 years together, that’s just not as terrifying as it once was.

7638 How about we sign our name in the front of the book the day we get it with our own color pen and the date? That would be easier than claiming colors now.

7638 I don't think there was enough distinction between the May Mothers to actually form unique characters. The primary difference between them seemed to be the size of their apartments, I felt that the husbands and babies all blended into each other. There was just not enough differentiating between them. The disclosure of all the "secrets" felt rushed.

It's a 3 for me...and that might actually be a little generous.

7638 I finished tonight, but I’m not posting anything until more people have finished.

This is clearly set up to be one of the Big Summer books - I’ve seen a lot of buzz. I’m not sure I agree.

Tanya, I guess I see characters poking at the mommy shaming topics as the same as overtly endorsing them. And after finishing the book I haven’t changed my mind.

7638 I’m about 2/3 through...it’s feeling pretty mediocre at this point. Anyone else have thoughts?

I think part of what bothers me is the Mom-shaming theme that runs through the story. As a mom of two teens I’ve certainly learned about the Mom-shaming that runs rampant - particularly on social media.

The other thing is that there is not a solid line that runs through the book. It bounces between perspectives and back and forth in the timing.
