7638 I live about 5 hours away from MSP (Minneapolis/St Paul). We have lots of friends there and visit several times a year. I love it - my husband and I have talked about moving there too, but then it would be further from grandparents and such, and we end up not moving. :) There are so many suburbs that you can find one that "fits". If you want serious details from people who have lived in the area for several years, let me know and I'll hook you up. It would be fun to grab coffee at a B&N with you this summer on one of our trips there! :)

7638 Mine is the Briggs translation. Thanks Stephanie!

7638 Happy, content...

We ran out to Kohl's tonight and found the kids' jackets for next winter clearanced 70% off - YAY! I bought some awesome gifts for Rigel,a few things for the kids, a few for my husband and a sweater for me, and got $50 in Kohls cash for later - YIPPEE!

The kids are getting their teeth brushed and then it's time to read with the kiddos. Kasia's in the super-fun (read, UGH) learning to read stage so I sit through hideous books with her. Don't get me wrong, I AM excited for her to learn to read, and I LOVE to watch her make progress. But "C" level books are pretty awful to listen to. However, after she does her reading, I get to read from the next book in the Magic Treehouse series to the kids. I really love reading those books to them, it's a lot of fun and they really enjoy it too.

7638 LOVE IT! Which translation, Stephanie?

7638 YAY! Mine is supposed to be here on the 13th, so should be here soon! I agree on the colors, I would like to see a variety, but...I'm excited to have found it early in the year, as I agree this would be a wonderful annual book tradition.

I love how we can all geek out together.

7638 I've got this one on my Kindle, so I'm going to participate too...as soon as I start it. But now I mean to do that soon!

7638 Thanks for all the happy wishes! Unfortunately for mom, after over 24 hours they had to do a c-section. Poor little guy was hung up and couldn't descend.

My kiddos were both over 8lbs. Marly, you're a rockstar! I loved my anasthesiologist and the epidurals. :)

7638 Yeah, I can certainly recontact him and let him know how much we're enjoying/discussing. Should I set up a thread for questions and comments we'd like to pass to him?

7638 He is a big baby - and he pooped 3 times before they weighed him, so he was likely over 10 pounds when he was born. The hospital staff had to search to find a shirt that fit him - he's NOT in newborn sizes!

@Tara - Rigel is the brightest star in the Orion constallation. When my cousin was younger he and his brother (Robbie) wrote stories with a main character named Rigel. Robbie was killed in a car crash when he was 16. This name is a beautiful legacy. Guilloux is Rigel's grandma's maiden name (which I LOVE, I gave my son my mother's maiden name as a middle name too.) His name is really beautiful and meaningful.

7638 Rigel is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO cute!!!!!!!! :)

Can't wait to meet him. Wish I knew when that was going to happen - he's in VA, and parents are moving to OR this summer...so, not sure. :(

7638 Teachers ARE underpaid. Honestly, so are childcare providers. I cringe at how much our child care costs us, but when you look at it in the perspective of, this is to care for MY CHILDREN while I can't...how do measure that? How do you say that the woman who was responsible for teaching my son to read didn't earn every penny? And my son isn't the only one who learned to read because of her work. Ugh.

And - we got the news today! Rigel Guilloux was born today at 10:15 - 9lbs 14 oz (poor Mama!) But all are healthy and sound, and I'm so excited that there is a new little one in our family!

7638 Sprinkle some lemon juice on them and they'll be fine...OR, throw them in a pan with some flour, brown sugar and cinnamon, call it Apple Crisp and enjoy it even more! :)

I ran into the library quick tonight to peruse the New Releases and they moved the shelves. :( Mike was outside waiting for me, so I couldn't search, I was going to pick up a couple books quick for Kasia, but meant to check the new releases shelf for me. Hmmph!

7638 The thing is I do like my job. And I do get to help people who need it. It's just that with the decline in the economy there is a lot of anger at the government, and since I'm the face or ear that a lot of people locally have access to, I'm the target. Just stressful.

@Tara - That's AWFUL. :( The billboard is meant to say how that $119000 is TOO MUCH for 6 people?!? My husband and I paid over $10000/year in childcare ourselves...for two kids. A teacher has 22 or more at any given time and $20000 is excessive. Huh.

7638 I am anxiously awaiting news from Virginia - my cousin and his wife have been at the hospital about 10 hours now, so I'm hoping to hear news of a healthy baby boy!

I'm excited for my package from Amazon - I totally copied Stephanie and ordered the Moleskine Book Journal http://www.amazon.com/Moleskine-Passi...

Can't wait to see it!

And...I'm frustrated after a day of being yelled at and ranted at and want to let all of you know, just in case you were ever unsure:

1. Federal employees didn't make the rules that they must uphold. By and large it's laws put into place by congress. Contact your representative if you'd like change.
2. We didn't choose the president in some exclusive election. Everyone in the US had their chance to vote. We aren't allowed to comment one way or another on policy or politics.
3. We are regular human beings who have mortgages, families and bills. We make hard decisions and have to know oodles of laws and regulations. We EARN our salaries, which are not excessive for college educated people.
4. Paying taxes does not give anyone the right to yell at or swear at me. I don't care that you pay taxes. I do too. I also paid for my meal at the restaurant tonight, but if I screamed and yelled and swore at my server, I'd get kicked out of the restaurant. And rightfully so.

OK. There's my rant. Guess how much fun my day at work was. :P

7638 When we were teenagers our mom would let us have mental health days. We'd say we were sick, or come home sick...but we were both honor students, in zero hour classes, plus activities, plus held jobs, so I think that random days off were ok. :) We'll see how I feel when I'm the mom of a teenager.

7638 I agree Molly - it's exactly what I do. Unfortunately I forgot to tell my husband and she got an afternoon of TV when HE picked her up. She WAS constipated, and since there is a nasty flu going on around the school, so when a kid says "my tummy hurts" they are calling parents. I DID tell them that she has some issues with constipation, and most tummy aches aren't really a deal.

@Steph - add to the notes that Brian needs to read the Mommy book. :)

7638 I agree with you totally Petra. Yes, there was the teaser for book 2 in my version, so it was interesting to see how it is going to be set up. I hope everyone matures a bit! But I'll be reading it when it is out!
Jan 04, 2011 05:01AM

7638 I was thinking the same thing!
