7638 Congratulations on the move!

I secretly enjoy moving...however my husband hates it with a passion and has declared we are never, ever moving again. We'll see!

7638 I haven't read in a few days...I'll read some more tonight though. And Petra - that's a really amazing quote!

7638 There is something incredibly therapeutic in ranting here. It's all gotten out, and there are no consequences, hurt feelings, etc. Just a safe group of people who are here to listen, provide feedback and support. Love it!

And, I wear my bifocals all day at the office, immediately take them off when I get home and hardly ever put them back on unless I'm going back to work or driving at night. :)

7638 I laughed at your title and thought that after a few of my rants I should maybe rename mine to rants as opposed to news! :)

I too call the Bees my online book club. It's a part of my every day life, and half the time when I'm reading something interesting in the break room it's because one of the Bees recommended it - so! Somehow you people get brought up! :)

Good luck Rita. When I went last with my headaches it meant bifocals. I was 31 at the time and rather traumatized. :P
7638 The Deen Koontz book that creeped me out the worst - and I've read pretty much everything by King and have read tons of Koontz with no issues...was Night Chills by Dean Koontz . Dear lord - that one was too believable and utterly frightening. (from my perspective at about age 16...I never re-read it.)

7638 Amen...I've got this bad habit of staying up too late on Sunday nights to try delay the reality of Monday morning.

7638 YIPPEE!!!!!!! Miracle babies DO happen. What a gift for you and your family! I've got a dear friend who has dealt with infertility issues, and know through her what a horrible roller coaster ride it is...but babies are wonderful. I'm grinnning and have tears in my eyes after reading your story. Congratulations!!!!!!!

7638 All right! That's up tonight. I'm shutting the book on Howl at the Moon (The Others, #4) by Christine Warren . It was in a big box my mom gave me to go through/donate etc and I picked it up thinking it'd be a easy, fluffy read, but it's stupid and too lusty. I was going to use the word porn, but that doesn't fit as I'm close to 100 pages in and there hasn't been any sex, just one kiss. But the mentions about how much the two characters lust after each other is more annoying than the smirking going on in The Muse of Edouard Manet (The Time Chronicles of Emily Porterfield, #1) by M. Clifford . I don't mind an occasional smutty/paranormal book. This one's just kind of dumb though.

7638 I went to the library today and got 5 books I've selected for various Hive tasks...and so, the question is what order shall I read them in?

The Girls by Lori Lansens The Girls

High Fidelity (Movie-tie In) by Nick Hornby High Fidelity

Someone Knows My Name by Lawrence Hill Someone Knows My Name

The Opposite of Me by Sarah Pekkanen The Opposite of Me

Blood Harvest by S.J. Bolton Blood Harvest

7638 I'm reading The Book Thief as well, and right now both are scenes of war...it's actually fairly interesting reading the different perspectives on the different wars, and how similar it really is even with 150 years between the two wars.

It's also a bit overwhelming. I think I'm going to have to go dig out a fluffy book to soothe my brain a bit.

7638 That's just it - I'm certain it would somehow be our fault if the kid was hurt in front of our house...and I thought hard before hollering. But I decided that I could never forgive myself if something happened to one of those kids and I hadn't said something.

I actually don't let my kids play on the hills. They are too close to the street, and too easy for the kids to get hurt on. I told my husband tonight, it's not 1985 and we don't live in Northwood. (Northwood is the small rural town we grew up in - population 1000)

7638 We're supposed to get our next storm on Friday. The silly weather man always messes up and sends us our storms on weekends, when I can't pull a snow day out of them! Your winter fun day sounds great!

7638 Sorry guys, but this is where I can rant. Today's topic: Parents who don't watch their children and then are mad at me when I tell their kid not to do something dangerous.

Story:

I live on a corner lot. The corners get piled up with snow when the snowplows clear the streets. The snow gets pushed into quite a hill in my front yard near the berm.

This hill is attractive to children with sleds. I get that. HOWEVER after watching for the third time the sliding down the hill and into the street coincide with when a car was coming, I decided it looked suspiciously like the kids were waiting for cars to come and timing their slides in a "Chicken" like game. I opened the front door and hollered out that if they wanted to slide down the hill to slide towards my house because "I don't want squished kids in front of my house." I said if they wanted to slide into the street and in front of cars they weren't doing it in my yard.

and so...the father of one of these abused children shows up at my house 45 minutes later asking what our problem is with their kid. SERIOUSLY?!?! Thankfully Mike answered rationally and eventually the guy figured out he hadn't gotten the whole story from his kid. But that child - who is 2 years older than my son - spends half his summer in my backyard in our kids' sandbox, which is FINE, it's why I have the fun stuff at my house, because I'd rather be where the kids show up than where mine want to go. But in the nearly 7 years we've lived here, and 3 years that kid has been showing up here to play in our yard with my kids' toys he doesn't show up until I ask the kids to kindly not kill himself in front of my house. And I'm the bad guy. Huh.

OK, rant over. Gabe is feeling better, will return to school tomorrow and all will be well. :)

7638 ...and he's home sick today. :S

Well, I guess I kind of figured he'd be home sick one day this week. He has a virus and he just needs to rest to fight it, so he's in bed now. Guess I'll have to read so I'm quiet while he rests?

7638 @Tasha - Your parents' journey is amazing! It's so much easier to have a "blessed" perspective when your generations are so close. And...I've learned how to shovel without killing my back, but there was one day last winter when I was going to prove how not lazy and helpful I was and took the scraper out to our sidewalks after freezing rain. The ice was 3 inches thick in places, and I scraped down one of our sidewalks in about 45 minutes. Then my husband comes out and scraped the other 3 sidewalks in about the same time. And I sat on the heating pad, took a jacuzzi tub and saw the chiropractor! That was miserable!

Tonight Gabe is at his first Pinewood Derby. I think my husband is about 10 times more excited than Gabe. :)
