The Lincoln Lawyer is a movie but we’d lose it as a 400 pager.
Under the Greenwood Tree was made into a movie.

The first Poirot mystery. Prefer some of the later ones but I can see why he became so popular.

I can do the Nobel author with John Steinbeck. I also have a slew of Camus, Solzhenitsyn and other heavy going authors but Tortilla Flat Tortilla Flat by John Steinbeck is short so I’ll read it next.

Yes, and all the stuff about not needing to burn books really because the government deliberate provides so much superficial, transient entertainment people don’t notice or care. They don’t read and get new ideas and they don’t talk to each other so books will be irrelevant to society.

And now along comes AI so yet another avenue of thought and creativity is removed.

What a terrific read. So much of what Bradbury wrote back in 1953 is still relevant and has either happened or is happening. Scary to think we’ve learnt nothing as a species in 70 years.

Loved this book. It's lighter and less complex than the longer Hardy novels but his subtle portrayal and insights into the strengths and weaknesses of character are timeless. The early parts of the book made me laugh so much I annoyed my husband by reading bits out to him.

Crayola Tower: U, T,H. Characters Dewey, Fancy.

35559 There are two books on that 2018 list I could read. One is a reread I own and the other is one I’d have to get hold of. I’d quite like to read the one I don’t have because it’s the first in a series of which I ‘ve read the third and enjoyed. The Ruin (Cormac Reilly, #1) by Dervla McTiernan . It also ticks some of my other challenge boxes but if someone has something that fits, go for it.

I’d read lots more from this list than the 2014 one .

Hardy is slow moving and not everyone likes his style. I was one of the few in my English class at school who liked Tess of the Durbevilles. I’ve read most of his books since but still have a few unread.

I have Under the Greenwood Tree by Thomas Hardy Under the Greenwood Tree by Thomas Hardy . Surprisingly my 1947 little hardcover edition is listed with its solid dark green cover. I like Hardy and had forgotten this was sitting waiting for me. Must have been my grandma’s copy.
