The Sellout has humor listed on the first page. Usually in challenges, if it's listed on the first page then it's acceptable. Do you want to go to the Airport Lounge and ask if it would be ok for the detour, or we could message one of the mods?

I'm going to be reading Me Talk Pretty One Day.

Yay, Anna! Good to have you back among us!

Anna, I'm thinking the team was wanting to do the detour for stop 3. If we don't, we won't be able to get in all 5 detours for the maximum points. That said, I do think these challenges are about reading for fun as well as points, so we should decide as a group if our focus is points, or just reading what we like.
How does everyone feel?

I think we're leaning that way. We get the most points if we do the 5 detours. We don't ALL have to do the detours. Here are the rules for the points for Tasks and Detours:
TASKS
◈ Completing a task will earn the team 10 points AND
◈ If at least 6 members of the team read a book that contributes to the tasks, that is an additional 15 points AND
◈ If ALL team members read a book for the time you are at the stop, that is an additional 10 points
DETOURS
◈ Completing a detour earns the team 25 points AND
◈ If at least 7 members of the team read a book for the detour, that is an additional 15 points AND
◈ If ALL team members read a book for the time you are at the stop, that is an additional 10 points

That's my second longest book and one I really want to read too!

No worries and no rush. All I meant was that since we need to be at each stop for a minimum of one week and the team was formed Sept 1st, once everyone is finished reading for stop 2, we can move on to stop 3 without any waiting.

Team, with that said, it looks like we'll be able to move on to our 3rd stop as soon as everyone has their books finished for stop 2.

Ha! Funny, Sarah! I didn't know how many books I had over 700 pages until I sorted them. Ugh. I prefer books that are about 300-400 pages long, so this will be a reach for me. Luckily this is a "trip around the world", not a "race around the world", so it will be ok if we all take longer on the last stop.

Oh yay! Well, that makes me want to read it a lot more!

I went to the Airport Lounge discussion thread, just to be sure on the answer for two team members reading the same book for a stop. The answer is yes, that's ok. The mods said everyone on the team can read the same book if we want, so no problem with both of you reading the same longest book on your TBR shelf. :)

Thank you! Perfect explanation!
My longest book is also a Stephen King (figured it would be).

Whoa! You all have some long TBR books. Good question, Carrie. I haven't found a way to sort according to pages. Any one help with this one?

Yes. It's definitely ok to read and finish your next book. :)
Anyone who is inclined to read books ahead for any of the stops is clear to do so. The rules for ATW are much less restrictive than for other challenges on GR.

I thought the detour with the chess pieces might be a good one too for all who read fantasy. We should maybe try for that one too, since we may not get the salad.

I think we should probably start planning the detours we are interested in doing. We can do a maximum of 5 during our ATW trip and since they give us more points than the tasks, we don't want to miss any.
Here is from the rules how the scoring for a detour works:
DETOURS
◈ Completing a detour earns the team 25 points AND
◈ If at least 7 members of the team read a book for the detour, that is an additional 15 points AND
A minimum of 4 team members must read for the detour to count, but if we have 7 readers then you can see we get an additional 15 points.
Some detours are easier than others. Take a look and see what you think.
I like the one that is actually for our upcoming stop#2:
"Read a book where the characters eat salad"- We should keep a look out for that as we're reading our books and if at least 4 of us find it in a book we're reading, then it would work for a detour.
I also like the detour for stop #3
"Read a book that is in the "Best Humorous Books" Listopia List (https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/3...)"
Stop #4 might also be easy
"Read a book with the name of the tarot card "The Sun" in the text or title"
Stop #5 is a fun one and would work for my book I'm reading now, The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper using the character's last name Pepper, which is also a word for a spice.
"Read a book where a characters name is also a word"
Stop #8 is the easiest of all and we should hopefully be able to get 7 of us to read for this detour:
"Read a book that is on your "to read" shelf that has the highest number of pages"
Those are just my thoughts. Take a look at the detours and let's discuss. :)

I watched A Monster Calls last night with my husband. We both really liked it and I cried my eyes out. The book just came in to the library. Can't wait to read it!
