Can you use time at work to improve your digestion?

Ask anyone how they take care of their digestion and you may get a range of answers – from taking probiotics and prebiotics, to drinking daily kombucha, to eating a special diet or even doing specific exercises.

As a culture, we like to pick one element of a “solution” and focus on it.  Trust me, as nutrition coaches and authors of three health books and a cook book, we wholeheartedly agree that the quality of food matters.

But what if we are missing the forest for the trees? What if it wasn’t so much the qual...

Happy anniversary, 365-ers!

happy anniversary eatmovelive52

Just like that – our dream, to have a monthly membership platform, came true. We imagined and created a place to publish exciting and life changing content and a group for discussions and support. When we set out a year ago we said let’s do this for a year, let’s try to see if our idea about self-care intersecting with life’s themes can work.

Our coach, Lyn Christian, our greatest cheerleader, asked if we were serious about this. She probed to find out whether it was another idea, or somethi...

Ancient wisdom for your fall nutrition

Fall is upon us. I woke up early to meet the sunrise today – and as I stepped out the contrast was clear – my bare feet on the grass were freezing – and my face was totally enjoying the warm caress of the sun’s first rays. That soft warmth only early spring and fall share. As I got inside to put some wool socks on and warm my feet, I remembered my Chinese medicine doctor saying – “It’s fall my friend, start warming up your feet – your don’t want your chi to run away!”

The ancients knew about...

Peace with food online workshop

Have you ever wondered why most diets and health plans fail? Human beings are a lot more complex than “Eat This Not That!” or “Move more, eat less!” or “No pain, no gain”. We are complex social creatures, capable of an incredible array or complex emotions and behaviors, most of them unconscious, automatic, and safe from our conceptual or cognitive reach.

We know this “human behavior is hard to change” thing firsthand – after all, our job is to support people in implementing the action steps a...

Move better today, move more tomorrow

Here is the tricky thing about movement – it only works if you do it. It’s a hard truth to swallow – that even those of us who are more active, still spend more time sedentary, or stand-entary (if you have a stand up desk, that is!). So unless you move, the power of movement isn’t really working in your favor!

We wrote about the importance of daily movement and included hundreds of ways to move more in daily life in our latest book! We even taught you how to organize your work space and home...

The power of YES

As coaches, people often come to us with an expectation to give them more things to say NO to.

Yet, they’ve already said “No” to so many. From gluten and dairy, to high heels and couches, from air travel to social media…we all build ourselves the scaffolds to keep us safe.

We build our own “biodome”, a predictable environment where we keep the “bad” out and hope that’s enough. Our culture’s hyper-focus on vilifying ingredients, activities, environments and groups of people ( think gluten, sit...
