Cauliflower ideas for fall, for the love of crucifers!

”Cauliflower is Nothing But Cabbage With a College Education”  Mark Twain

Where I come from we call cauliflower ”the flower cabbage”. Indeed the cabbage family is huge, and we can see even arugula and radishes parading as distant cousins. Scientists call these ”cruciferous veggies”, how about that for sounding fancy? Crucifers used to look a lot more like kale in our distant past, and  they grew in the Mediterranean for the gathering joy of our ancestors.

In recent decades, we are enjoying mo...

Instead of New Year’s Resolutions…

Yes, it’s that time of year, when you look ahead to January 1st and consider what big life changes you can make.

STOP!

If you’re trying to make change that lasts, a New Year’s resolution is the wrong way to do it.

80% of people who make resolutions don’t last more than two weeks.

I know, you’re different. But what if you’re not?

Why resolutions don’t build habits

Actually, they do build habits, but they’re the bad kind.

Here’s the deal: you’re making you...

Health Books for the Holidays? Be careful, but do it anyway

Giving a diet book as a gift is dangerous, but if you’re careful you can give a book that’s healthy to a loved one without sending the wrong message.

The holidays are here, so it’s gift-giving season.

We’re all about books, health, and wellness here, but we realize it can be a bit tricky to give some healthy items as gifts and not offend.

Remember Father of the Bride, when Bryan gave Kimberly a blender?

He didn’t want to domesticate her, he just wanted her to be able to blend her smoothies befor...

You’re not leaving the table until you clean your plate.

Moms throughout history have said…

“You’re not leaving the table until you finish your plate.”

“I didn’t pay for that dinner for you to waste it.”

“Eat the rest. There’s not enough food to save.”

These are just three of the sayings that lead us to eat more than we should.

We eat more than we need.

Often more than we actually want to.

It’s not your mom’s fault, and it’s not your fault.

These ‘clean your plate’ sayings make no sense.little girl cleaning her plate

Galina’s Roasted Vegetable Salad with Quinoa and Tahini Dressing

If you’re looking for a fun story behind this roasted vegetable salad, think again.

The best I’ve got is this.

Galina had just gotten back from a trip, so she was super tired.

She made this salad, then asked me to write it up for our Eat Move Live 365 Membership Community.

“I’ll text you the ingredients,” she said from bed.

Two minutes later, here’s the text from Galina — 2 cups quinoa

2 cups quinoa? That’s it?

I waited for the rest, but it was too late.

She’d f...

Chocolate, fruit, & love – A healthy and delicious dessert for Valentine’s Day

Galina combines chocolate and orange with powerful chemistry, and creates a healthy and delicious dessert for Valentine’s Day.

Like lovers, the flavors kiss, and magic is made.

Who doesn’t love chocolate dipped strawberries? I surely do. But February in the Northern hemisphere doesn’t have amazing strawberries, other than maybe for decorative purposes. You might still taste the chocolate, but the fruit itself is lost. Tasteless and disappointing.

With a good chocolate dipped strawberry, the cho...

Winterize Your Family’s Movement

Whether you’ve got a whole family to keep moving or just yourself, the winter can be a challenge for daily movement.

The cold, rains, wind, and snow tend to keep us not only indoors, where it’s cozy, but also keep us more sedentary.

Luckily, our friend Heidi has some great tips to winterize your movement!

The best diet dessert just might be a personal cheesecake

The best diet dessert isn’t a diet dessert at all. Any dessert can fit in your diet if you eat the right amount and it’s part of your plan.

In my opinion, the best diet dessert is one that you love, but only have when it’s part of your plan.

If you don’t know by know, cheesecake is my favorite dessert, and honestly, I’d rather have a smaller piece of normal cheesecake than most ‘healthy’ cheesecakes, anyday.

The same goes for cookies or ice cream.

I’d rather have less of a treat that tas...

Full Disclosure Friday – Basic health advice, weird advice

The internet is full of health hacks and advanced fitness advice, but when it comes to basic tips, sometimes the basics are hard to find.

Full disclosure, one of the most powerful health hacks out there is simply to go back to the basics.

Unfortunately, we’ve spent so much time trying to hack ourselves, that by today’s standards, the basics can seem basic.

Or even weird.

…but hey, I’ll take it!

#FullDisclosureFriday

If you hang out on social media, then you’re probably familiar with Full Disclo...
