Eeeekkkk…It’s Almost Turkey Day!!!

I am SO EXCITED about it almost being Thanksgiving. I seriously think and wait and lust after this day all year long. It’s because my parents make the best damn deep fried turkey I’ve ever had. They taught me how to make it, of course, but it’s always nice when they host this holiday at their house because all I have to do is bring a couple of sides, show up, and stuff my face shamelessly. I LOVE THANKSGIVING! _niecey_roy_logo_by_sprinkles_on_top - Smaller

Thanksgiving at my dad’s place is pretty quiet. We have a small family, so max, there’s only about 11 to 13 people. It leaves plenty of turkey leftovers. And deep fried turkey isn’t dry, and the left overs warmed up are amazing. I just felt like bragging. It’s my favorite part of the meal!

What about you all? What’s your fav Turkey Day dish?

Another Year Gone…

Happy Birthday to Me :)

I swear, the older I get, the faster the years go by. I blinked and suddenly it’s the big three-two. How the hell did that happen, anyway? They say you’re only as old as you feel… Last year, I felt pretty young. This year, I just feel tired, ha!

This last year has been very busy for me; a lot has happened. I’ve published two books, met a lot of amazing people (readers, bloggers, authors) and it’s been a whirl-wind of excitement.

I’ve been writing down my goals for this next year. I think I’m being a bit ambitious, but that’s normal for me. I’m always over-extending myself ;) It’s the only way for me to stay on track, as I’m easily distracted. But, one thing that’s on the top of my list is a vacation. A real one. The kind that involves white sandy beaches and Mai Tais. I’ve decided it’s my favorite drink. I had one on my birthday this year while waiting for my Japanese takeout and it was amazing. I’m not big on water sports, so I doubt I’ll be posting any pictures from that future vacation of me in the water. I’ll probably just be tipsy in a lounge chair with a good book ;)

What about you? Any fun goals, or amazing vacations planned for this year?

Smooches ♥ ~

A guest post by author Barbara Barrett

I’ve got another guest posting on my blog today, yay! Welcome Barbara Barrett, an awesome author who’s got a great new release out. Check out her guest post below, and then check out her books :) Thanks for stopping by and showing Barbara some love!

Houston, We’ve Got a Problem

“Houston, we’ve got a problem.” Thank you, “Apollo 13” for that quote. It works well as an opening line for this article. I like to use locations in my writing that have a certain sentimental attachment for me. In this case, Houston is the home of my uncle, two aunts, five cousins and their respective families and my stepsister. They were a great support to my mother when she lived there briefly a few years back. It is also the home of a former critique partner.

I have other fond memories of Houston as well. Years ago, when I was first married and my husband was in Advanced Training with the U.S. Army, we met in Houston when he had a weekend’s leave. At the time, I was a head resident in a women’s dormitory on the Drake University campus. My residents took up a collection to buy my airline ticket. Although I suppose I could have suspected their motives for getting me out of their hair for a few days, instead, I took the high road and very much appreciated their gesture, since I hadn’t seen him in a few months.

Admittedly, we spent a lot of that weekend in our motel room, but we also rented a car and did a little sightseeing as well. I remember driving near the NASA installation and down the Gulf Coast to Galveston. It even snowed while we were there, a bit of an oddity for the area. Their heating systems aren’t necessarily prepared for cold weather. At least our motel’s wasn’t.

Although my new book, Driven to Matrimony, takes place on a small vacation island off the South Carolina coast, the hero and heroine come from different parts of the country. Dina lives in Des Moines, Iowa, having deliberately selected a geographic area far away, physically and lifestyle-wise from her mother’s Hollywood haunts. I wanted Ben to hail from a totally different place than the Southern coast, the West Coast or the Midwest, so it had to be either the Northeast, the Northwest, or the Southwest. Houston got the nod.

Probably a more appropriate quote for Ben, a software developer and owner of a small information technology company, would be, “I’ve got a problem IN Houston.” His business is in trouble, because his competitors want the new product he’s developed, and since he won’t sell it to them, they work behind the scenes to make staying in business difficult. They lure away his only employees, undersell him with his customers and pull strings to subject him to a government audit. All that’s on his mind when he arrives in South Carolina to deal with an even more immediate problem, his twenty-year-old son’s engagement to a fifty-something movie star.

Houston has to take a back seat the next few days, as he and Dina attempt to stall off the impending nuptials of her mother and his son. But getting back home is never far from his mind, until he realizes he’s found his soul mate, his second chance at love, in Dina. Only then does he consider relocating, so the two of them can be together.

Will it be Houston, Des Moines or somewhere else? Check out the book to learn what they decide.

A Man to Sigh Over… Return to Audubon Springs by RoseAnn DeFranco

Why You will Love Rafe from Return to Audubon Springs

Thank you, Niecey for inviting me to post on your blog during your Birth Week! I hope taking a look at all the yummy attributes of my hero Rafe from Return to Audubon Springs will add a fun element to your Birthday celebration!

Rafe Iuliano is a larger than life hero. His physicality and humor contribute to many funny and heartwarming moments. Here are just a few reasons why you will come to love him.

Rafe is Athletic – He runs the beach or boardwalk every morning, weather permitting, and has the body to prove it. This is considered a public service to many residents of Audubon Springs.

Rafe is good with his hands – He designs and builds hand crafted furniture, bringing the natural beauty of the wood to life. He’s comfortable using his hands in other ways to which Emma can attest. Who doesn’t love a man who knows how to use his tools?

Rafe is FUNNY – What woman can resist a man who is witty with his words and actions? Laughter in a relationship is key and Rafe’s humor keeps Emma on her toes.

Rafe is Fiercely Protective – Emma would say he’s OVER protective, but when caught in a storm, he knows just what she requires and why in the way of coming to her rescue.

Rafe is a Mama’s Boy – Just like his two older brothers, he would do anything for his mother, but he’s the kind of mama’s boy who was taught the proper way to treat a woman. Good job, mom!

Rafe Loves Literature – When he learns of Emma’s secret life as a children’s book Author, he supports her literary pursuits and becomes committed to ensuring a happy ending for the characters in her story.

Rafe Never Backs Down from a Fight – He is a man of action and has no problem getting to the heart of the matter, even if it means a sexy food fight with Emma to drive home a point.

What are some of your favorite qualities in a hero?

Excerpt

“It’s good to see you too, Emma.” Rafe smiled. A flash of dimples tugged on her memory and heart. “Is falling into men’s flower beds a habit or should I feel special?”

“As it happens, I don’t see this as your flower bed, but rather my own.” Covered in dirt, Emma feasted her eyes on Rafe. She didn’t try to stand. Instead she pushed her hands further into the sticky mulch, needing something to hold on to, momentarily thankful to be on solid ground. She licked her lips. He looked good.

“Finally here to claim what’s yours?”

“Are you going to help me up or not?”

Rafe took a deep breath, and reached out a hand. When they touched, the same powerful jolt of electricity that used to exist between them ran up her arm and straight to her heart. He pulled harder than necessary and Emma slammed into his chest. She took a quick step back, needing space, and almost landed in the garden again. Rafe held on and steadied her.

“Whoa, easy. I don’t think the shrubs can take anymore.”

Her stomach twitched at the sound of his voice, so close it resonated in her ear and vibrated down her spine. His scent, masculine and fresh from-a-shower-clean, mesmerized her. He surrounded her even though he only stood in front of her, balancing her.

“Let go of me,” she whispered.

He complied by raising his hands, palms out, in the air as if they’d been burned. His heat lingered on her skin, and she ached with the loss of his touch. Emma went to work brushing the gritty mulch from her shaking hands.

“You always were a bit clumsy, huh, Ems?”

She snapped her head up, and her eyes landed on his playful grin.

Alert!!! Melinda A. Di Lorenzo has hijacked my blog!!!

Niecey:  Okay, so I kind of let her hijack my blog. So, it probably doesn’t count as a hijacking… Anyway, I’m on a bit of a hiatus. You know, finishing Book 2 in my new NA Romantic Comedy series called What’s Love??? I’m grateful Melinda has offered to guest post and keep this wall active :)

Welcome, Melinda!

Melinda…

On Writing Romantic Suspense

When I was little girl, I used to love to curl up and watch Murder She Wrote.  If you’re thinking to yourself that I must’ve been an old lady trapped inside a little girl’s body…Well, you’d be partly right.  This program, with all its twists and turns, and its clever, writer-turned-sleuth heroine, was one of my Grammy’s favourites.  That made it a-okay in my mind.  It was a past time we could share, and that made it as enjoyable then as it is memorable now.

My love of a good mystery continued over the years, and evolved.  I read Trixie Belden as a pre-tween.  I loved that each story had a new case to solve, and how the richness of the characters’ family lives crossed over from book to book.  As an adult, some of my favourite comfort-authors (yes, I’m likening them to soothing things like hot chocolate and all dressed chips) include Heather Graham, Sandra Brown, and Karen Rose.  I love a story I can sink my teeth into, as well as one where I can’t QUITE see the end coming.

And here’s the other important thing to know about me.  I’m a sucker for a love story.

My all time favourite book is Pride and Prejudice.  My all time favourite movie is the 6-hour A&E adaptation of Pride and Prejudice.  Fitzwilliam Darcy makes my heart beat fast.  Declarations of love make me swoon.  Sigh.  The Notebook.  Sigh.  Twilight. (Don’t judge me.)  To quote Hunter Hayes, when it comes to love, “I don’t want good and I don’t want good enough. I want can’t sleep, can’t breathe without you kinda love.” Again, sigh.

So.  Putting those two things together between the pages of a book is a foregone conclusion.  My new novel, Tattoos and Tangles, does just that.  Nail biting moments drive Cass and John to realize that life is too short to wait around.  When love strikes, it needs to be seized, because you never know if the next moment will be your last.

Join me on FACEBOOK, on Goodreads, and on Twitter to follow my writing journey.

And you can find (all) my books on Amazon.

Niecey: Thanks again, Melinda, for being a doll and guesting today! To my wall peepers, check out Melinda’s new release, Tattoos & Tangles! I haven’t had a chance to read it yet, but I hear it’s fab!
