Guest Post ~ by Aedan Byrnes, author of Through the Oracle’s Mist
~ Guest Post ~
Niecey: Hi, Aedan! Thanks for guesting on my blog today. So excited to have you! This book looks ah-mazing! I was curious, can you tell me w hat made you write historical novels? Do you have an obsession with history, like I do?
Aedan: I don’t think I write historical novels. I don’t think I write romance either though. I write novels and tales that appeal to me viscerally and enjoy using history to make them feel real. I have always been a student of the world. I love history and spend a great deal of time reading about it when not using it as backdrop for storytelling. Apollo’s Oracle at Delphi is a particular favorite of mine and I knew the Oracle piece of the story long before I knew anything else. I knew that I wanted an influence that was ageless and sustaining, but wise and foreshadowing even though perhaps not directly recounting the actual Oracle or the maidens of Apollo’s Temple.
As for the other backdrops, it was important to me to be accurate in the history even if the story was fiction. That made the writing fun for me. Once I knew the premise of the tale, I started thinking about times in history that were interesting to me and fitting them to the work. There are many more backdrops from history I hope to use in the series somehow, but I needed time to remain linear but also expansive for this tale, so not all my favorites made the cut. I looked at a large cross section history of the world and chose additional backdrops once I had worked in a couple that I knew in my head I needed to use to move the tale forward.
Japan was fun to work on. I am fascinated by the era before and of the Shoguns. The conflicts that occurred leading up to a system that changed the world was difficult to condense down into such a small segment of the book, but Japan was not the point of this tale. The expansion of the world west to east and vis-à-vis made the sands almost necessary, and for me, a welcome addition. There is such dynamic contrast between them from desert to desert which in turn reinforced the tale I was weaving as I tried to show that one person’s perspective is not the same as the next through the same set of events.
I wouldn’t say I am obsessed with history, but I do feel there is a wealth of opportunity for story telling in history. I think the great challenge of writing is to write not only what a reader will enjoy, but what you can enjoy writing or learn from by writing. Bending the pieces to scribe a tale that hasn’t been told is a great joy for me. While the second book deals more with the fantasy realm on Amaranth, I do hope in the third book and beyond to get back to the historical timeline here and incorporate more of my favorite times and places to the adventure of the Vengelys.
That fans have enjoyed the history makes ‘it’ for me. I feel like I have gotten to share a passion with them that they may not have had before, or gotten to deepen an appreciation that so few realize because let’s face it, for most of us, history class was a long hour. I’m ecstatic to meet another history fan, what are your favorite times and places? Where should we go in the future books? I’d love to know.
Niecey: Sharing your passion is something I can relate with Thank you again for guesting today.
Everyone, please take a moment to check out Aedan’s novel, Through the Oracle’s Mist!!!

There is no simple description for Aedan Byrnes. Obsessive, dreamer, reclusive, compulsive, outdoorsman and wordsmith would be among the list if one were started. The displaced Gael lives in the upper Midwest with family between jaunts wherever the road takes him. A frequent traveler, he is as likely to be found rock climbing or spelunking as sitting fireside dreaming or aimlessly floating away.
A lifelong lover of words and writing, he claims a diverse reading appetite and his writing reflects the myriad influences. A self-proclaimed ‘reader’s writer’, he looks for the emotional and the sensory in word combinations, not just the visceral comprehension of phrases in the stories he crafts and his love of all things literary shines through.

~ Excerpt ~
They call me street rat…filthy child…wasted life. Foraging about what seems to be palace walls judging by the building beyond them, I suppose that’s how it looks even if an inaccurate appearance for my soul. Who was I to educate them? They are not my purpose here. Tynan exists in this place.
Glancing about, watching my reflection in a lingering puddle I realize this is by far the youngest I have been. Judging by previous forays on this plane, I would guess that Tynan will be as he always is, and in time I will find him. Or, he will find me. Considering my circumstance, I hope it’s sooner than later.
Shouting from nearby grabs my attention. Young voices and loud commotion are getting louder. They’re coming closer. Suddenly, there are bodies everywhere. Mostly young people like me, racing past the place where I stand transfixed. Behind them, also running are adults, a lot of adults. By their garb I would guess them to be soldiers or some type of guards, though their attire does nothing to help me identify where, or more importantly when I am. The youth are fighting on the fly. They throw rocks, rotten food, or whatever they can grab easily as they scatter to the four winds. One is trying desperately to pull me along, but finally gives up and saves himself. I am as if stone, captivated by the guard at the far end of the way.
The erratic jet hair that skewers out from under the helmet, and the eyes bluer than deep ice, announces like a bugle blast in my head and an explosion in my chest, I have found Tynan. Or, Tynan found me. If only he knew it was me. My pulse is running faster than the youth who passed me going the opposite direction of my gaze. The world itself is drowned out of all perception, save the spotlight of my vision that can only see him. This tunnel-vision is probably why I missed seeing the blow coming. He turned to me, eyes widening in what I mistook for recognition. I saw his mouth open and him start in my direction, just before I saw nothing at all.

Writing S-E-X Scenes…
It’s so funny, I’ve never really thought much about it before. You know, the couples in your book doing IT. The scenes flow together, electricity flies and suddenly the characters’ clothes fall off. BAM. No bigz, right???
Until you’re writing a hot scene and your 9 and 7 year old walk into the room. HA HA!!!
For some reason, I don’t remember it ever being a problem with my other novels. You know, the sudden stage fright and blush on my cheeks with the uncomfortable thought…I’m writing naughties and my kids might find out! Not like would be able to tell or anything, but still. I shut the laptop and pretended great interest in what was on TV.
Which got me thinking, I clearly need a more private place to write those scenes. And, writing them in front of my husband would probably result in not so much writing, but book research. *wink* Some of my blog followers are writers themselves. I’m curious, where do you write your sex scenes? Do you have any habits, like maybe pouring a glass of wine and dimming the lights? (haha, but seriously!) I mean, does the mood have to be just right? My kids sucked all the “electricity” out of that moment and I had to move on to write other scenes, and am now going back in the second draft (in the privacy of my office) to fill in those hot spots. I’m not sure I could write them in my favorite coffee shop, either, though at least I wouldn’t be busting out laughing as I do on occasion writing the more comedic scenes in my romantic comedies.
As a reader, I don’t think I have a problem with reading the hotter, sizzling scenes anywhere. What about you? Well, now I’m off to finish a naughty scene

Quick Weeknight Meal ~ Beef & Greens Over Steamed Rice

Beef & Greens over Steamed Rice
Weeknights can be very hectic for most families…especially mine! Usually by Sunday, I’m already dreading the busy that’s to come. With both my kids in school now (1st and 3rd graders), my husband working rotating 12 hour shifts, and me working at the law office and also transcription at home on top of my writing, there just isn’t time during the week to make elaborate meals. And, anyone who knows me, knows I love, love, love to cook. So, I try to plan my meals ahead of time, and I try to plan simple dishes. Most of the simple dishes I make can be added to and fancied up, too, so they make for a good “base” for nights or weekns I have more time.
For me, finding ideas for quick, healthy and hearty meals is key to making it through the week. This recipe is one my family loves. Prep time takes all of 10 minutes, and cooking time is a quick 25 minutes.
First, here are the ingredients you’ll need:
1 lb. beef sirloin steak, sliced
1 medium yellow onion, sliced
3 large garlic cloves, chopped

baby spinach, baby kale, chards and beet tops mix
1 large package of mixed greens – baby spinach, baby kale, chard and beet tops
1 cup beef broth (I use low sodium broth)
3 tablespoons soy sauce
ground black pepper
1 tablespoon olive oil
steamed rice
First, get your rice steaming. I use a rice cooker, which makes it simple and quick to prepare.
Next, slice the beef into thin strips. I like to cut steak when it’s still mostly frozen. This makes slicing the meat much easier. Then, slice your onion in half. After slice it in half, slice it into thin, half-moon strips. Chop the garlic into small pieces.
Warm pan on medium heat and add olive oil. I use extra virgin olive oil, and I do not measure. I make three passes in a circle around the pan, which should be about 1 tablespoon. Add onions and garlic and saute until the garlic just starts to brown. This shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes.
Then, add the steak to the pan and brown. This will take about 5 minutes.
Once the steak is mostly browned, add the beef broth and soy sauce. Cover and simmer on low for ten minutes.
Remove beef from the broth to a bowl.
Add the greens to the broth and cook on medium for 3 to 5 minutes.
Add the greens and broth to the beef in the bowl.
Serve over steamed rice.
Like I mentioned earlier, this is a recipe you can add to. When I have more time, I’ll slice button mushrooms, which tastes great with this dish. Wishing you all a great week

Niecey Roy knew she wanted to be a writer from a very young age, but her moment of enlightenment came after watching the movie You’ve Got Mail. It was then she realized her place in life, and happily parked her butt on writing romance. Her dream was to create sexy vixens, hunky, half-naked heroes, and above all, romance; lots and lots of butterflies in the belly, breathless first kisses and happily-ever-afters.
When she’s not at her day job where she works as a legal assistant, she can be found at home at a cluttered desk, pounding her tired little fingers away on a keyboard with nothing but black pepper flavored sunflower seeds and Visine as her weapons for mass-romance-novel-creation. When her fingers need a break, you’ll find her at a table with friends, drinking a few martinis and showing off a new pair of (sometimes ridiculous) high heels. She’s usually the loudest at the table and most often the one snorting with laughter.
Niecey is the author of Fender Bender Blues, a contemporary romantic comedy published by The Wild Rose Press. Her new novel to be released November 2013, Another Shot At Love, is the first novel in the What’s Love??? series.

by Kobby TettehGyan
~ My Review ~
Happy Release Day, Kobby!!!

Join Lily in her quest for freedom as she poses as a couple with Clare behind a camouflage of flashy cars and cupcakes in order to get that inheritance. Follow this hilarious recipe of a low self-esteem girl, a sassy self-employed actress, an Aunt whose quotes would get you raising brows and two grannies who are willing to help low self-esteem girl. But watch out, one has a pistol which she stashes in her underwear.
Message From The Author: I’ve had lots of inspiration for writing. But the one that moved me into publishing my very first novel, I Don’t Know How She Will Do It has to go to Allison Pearson. Words can’t describe how much I loved I Don’t Know How She Does It─both the book and the movie. Something about Kate’s struggle and how lovable she was portrayed made me nuts to pen something down. Days and days the title I Don’t Know How She Does It resounded constantly in my sleep, in my wake, every moment in my life (mainly because it was one hell of a funky title). I was practically haunted to put down my baby I Don’t Know How She Will Do It. Though they are both different stories, they both portray that sense of feminism that makes women all around the world proud. And that’s why I penned I Don’t Know How She Will Do It, a short story that would make women rejoice for their womanhood and cheering them for giving men a run for their money. There are points I might make you reach for your Kleenex, but forgive me for you will laugh at so many moments they would make up for all my sins.
Best,
Kobby.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
First of all, Kobby TettehGyampoh, simply Kobby, hates referring to himself in third-person.
I just turned eighteen. I am Ghanaian and have always loved Chick-lit. My Chick-lit role models would be Sophie Kinsella, Marian Keyes, Janet Evanovich and Sarah Strohmeyer.
I was introduced to the genre when I was thirteen. Sarah Strohmeyer made the introduction with her Bubbles Series. Since I read Bubbles, I quit writing Harlequin-styled romances and have always considered myself-since then, a humor writer.
My biggest dream is to be an EIC to a lifestyle magazine someday like Kate White-for my obsession for Cosmo’s language since she was running as editor. But for now, I am good with studying English to break into Advertising someday.
I am currently working on my next title which is sort of a series like Cupcakes R US, but it’s based on the lives of editors, columnists and freelancers in a Cosmo-lookalike magazine. Which would be available in more formats than kindle. Epub, PDF, Docx, Doc, Mobi, PowerPoint. And oh, Paperback.
If I am not writing something funny, I spend most of my time reviewing something funny on my blog, ChickLit Pad (http://chicklitpad.blogspot.com).
RELEASE DATE IS 3rd Febuary. Please be sure to check it out on Amazon
BIG thanks to all the blogs that participated in my tour. So grateful. I can’t thank all the authors that have supported me enough. Sesame Swallow, Private Investigator by D. Scott Meek

~~ My Review ~~
So, I’m a writer, and NOT a reviewer. I only choose to take on reviews of books that I really catch my interest. When I viewed the first page of this book, I immediately wanted to keep reading. HA HA!!! I was intrigued and loved the BAM effect in those first two sentences. Anyway, let me just say, reading Sesame Swallow, PI was just the break I needed before jumping into my own edits. Sesame is a sassy, sexy, fun character, and D. Scott Meek did an excellent job in bringing her to life. Plus, she’s got an attitude I absolutely adore Do not pick this up if you’re looking for a sweet, innocent read. You’ll be knee deep in adult content the entire way through…and you’ll love it
I can’t wait to see what else this author has up his sleeve. Raunchy, laugh out loud adventure??? YES PLEASE!!!

If Nancy Drew had come of age in the modern world, worn eye-popping short skirts and stilettos and drank Johnny Walker Black with the best of them, she would have been Sesame Swallow, a late-twenties party girl with an oral fetish straight from the not-so-hallowed halls of a local college and looking to make a splash in the shady world of private investigation. After months of questioning her career move, Sesame finally lands her first case: find a missing person, the web-famous wife of a local entrepreneur and wealthy businessman, but she’ll need to get her hands and her knees dirty to do the deed. A raunchy, laugh-out-loud adventure, this first in a series of seductive mysteries finds our sexy heroine doing what she does best: whatever must be done to whomever she must do it.
“I really enjoyed reading Sesame Swallow, there was a dark twist in the story line that just drew you in. The sex scenes were hot, and the connection to the characters was pretty deep. This story also brings to light a global crime that some may not even be aware of—human trafficking. I think it takes talent, like D. Scott Meek’s, to bring a very real problem into a fictional story and make it work.” ~Thom Cahir, author of “911 Avenged”

D. Scott Meek: ”Sesame, as it states up front, is a party girl. She loves to go out, have fun, and get her drink on, which as we know is Johnny Walker Black. That is, she’s serious. It’s not about going out to impress boys, look for love, or create drama. Sesame is not interested in any of that. Impressing boys is a waste of time; Sesame is confident and happy with herself, so they’ll be impressed or they won’t be – it’s not her problem. She isn’t looking for love; she’s been down enough bad roads to worry about that journey. Sesame wants to play, and boys love when a girl has her own agenda and not only wants what she wants but is not afraid to go get it. And Sesame isn’t about drama. Leave that to the other girls; she has better things to do than point fingers – can result in broken nails and broken noses, pout – causes wrinkles, and play the game – too many people are playing it. Sesame just wants to dance. Her playlist, whether it’s when she’s getting ready to go out or waiting for that perfect song at the club, is pretty solid”

What’s a mid-40′s divorced man to do after wrapping up twenty years in the US Navy? Why, start a career in teaching and writing, of course. Oh, and explore the world some more. And read everything possible. And go back to school. And enjoy every moment to its fullest.
A teacher for the government by day, I ply my wares at night on my laptop, where I’m cranking out silly blog posts, socio-political commentary, poetry, short stories and novels at an excessive rate. If I was driving, I’d have been pulled over by now. Meanwhile, I have kids to raise, a girlfriend to love, and a spunky wiener dog named Sloppy Joe to goof around with.
Beyond that, I’m busy with life, having fun, working out, going to parties, traveling, etc. When I burn out and die, I want to be able to say that I did everything that was possible for me to do. I want to die like I live: with a smile on my face.
