I’m working to correct the issue. I merged some contacts, and I’m still new to MailChimp…resulting in said malfunction. Gah, I feel like a jerk!

cupcake? You can use my fork,” Brent said and held it out to me. With his saliva on it.
I had no idea where his mouth had been lately. Gross.
I shook my head. “Uh, no thanks. I’m good.
I’ll get another fork.” I said and shoved my chair back so hard it made a loud, screeching noise across the floor. I smiled an apology before I escaped and wondered how I could prolong the simple task of retrieving a fork.
I took my time at the counter talking to Melanie about the weather, about cupcake batter and about where she got her plastic forks, anything to delay my return to the table. When Lexie sent me the twin death glare, I sighed and went back to the table.
Brent had eaten half of my Lemon Drop cupcake.
“That one was really good,” he said and sent me a sparkly smile.
I almost stabbed him with my fork, but the bell above the door jingled and I looked up to see Matt standing there.
The light flooding through behind him tipped his dark hair in gold. I nearly sighed. Was it weird I thought I heard sirens and angels singing? There he was, my knight in shining armor, saving me again.
I threw the fork down and bounded from my chair. It tipped backward, but the sound of it crashing to the floor was muffled as everything else faded to the background. I rushed into his arms and he caught me to his chest with a deep laugh and it reverberated through my body like a bass drum. His arms circled around me, wrapping me in his warmth and I breathed in the scent of him, my face feeling like it might crack with my smile.
His cheek rested against my temple and I sighed, content. Would my heart ever stop racing when my eyes caught sight of
him? I hoped not. It was exhilarating and terrifying at the same time.
“You came,” I whispered, not willing to let
him go.
“Did you doubt I would?” He dropped a kiss to the tip of my nose, sending shivers down my spine, the butterflies knocking like mad into each other inside my stomach.

Contemplating My First Book Signing…
Long gone are the days where readers troll the aisles of book stores, lovingly pulling a book from the shelf to read the blurb, gaze upon the cover, with that agonizing wonder, “Is this the one I should buy today?” That’s still me, I’m that reader. I do love to buy digital titles, that dang one-click option will be my downfall!!! But there are so many digital titles on my eReader I’ve purchased that I haven’t gotten to reading yet. And that’s because I can’t hold it in my hand and turn the pages. I’m a bit old fashioned, and proud of it. At the age of (almost) 32, I was blessed to have grown up in a time where bookstores were still the most amazing place for a bookworm to spend an afternoon, when the idea of getting my hands on a print copy or hardcover was like sticking a child in a candy store, when the idea of walking into your favorite bookstore and seeing an author signing copies of their novel was like running into Brad Pitt or Catherine Zeta Jones on the street.
I miss those days!
I see less and less buzz about author book signings, but I do live in a smaller town. I wonder how receptive a little town like this would be to a local author setting up shop with a stack of books and a nervous smile (will anyone stop, does anyone even enjoy reading anymore, will I sit here all by my lonesome?)
I’ve really been putting some major thought into this, wondering where the best place to have a booksigning would be, whether at the local book store, which is not only a book store, but a music and entertainment store, or perhaps at a local coffee shop or two. I’m still undecided, but I do know that ever since I was a child and became enthralled by the idea of one day having my own books in print, my fantasy and ultimate goal in life was to have my own book signing.
So that’s what I’m going to do Plans are in process, and it’s very exciting, even if it’s a huge possibility no one will read the newspapers or press releases online and show up. I won’t care, because I’ll get to sign at least one book I’ll make a friend come with me and pretend to be my first amazed fan. LOL!!!
If there are any contemporary romance authors living in Nebraska interested in joining me for a book signing, that might be super fun! Or, if anyone just feels like they want to take a road trip to Nebraska (the state’s not entirely flat and fall is always beautiful here), shoot me a message. I’d love to discuss some ideas.
I write for The Wild Rose Press, an amazing publisher based in New York. I was thinking it would be fun to get some TWRP authors together and do a large book signing in The Big Apple. Now, that would be an amazingly fun time. Imagine the pictures and all the shoe shopping I could do… Ah, now my eyes are all starry with the idea

“You really should change that light bulb,” Matt said, glancing around us.
“I know.” I pushed aside my wallet to dig to the bottom of my oversized purse. “I kind of take for granted that this is supposed to be a safe neighborhood.”
“Until an alien abducts you off your poorly lit porch.”
“Very funny.” I glanced up from my purse with a smile. “But really, it’s late. You could have been home by now.”
“Gen, I’m glad to walk you to your door. I would have worried about you if I hadn’t.”
I considered him as we stood there on my porch, the light flickering above us. I didn’t want him to leave, but I didn’t know how to ask him to stay. Maybe I could ask him in for a drink, though I’d already had enough.
But I have those cupcakes…
Yeah. I could offer him cupcakes. They weren’t his favorite, chocolate with sprinkles, but yellow cake with milk chocolate frosting had to be a close second, right? Hadn’t he said a cupcake will fix everything?
“I’m really glad we went out tonight.” His voice made me jump and I dropped the keys. We both bent to pick them up at the same time and bumped foreheads.
“Sorry,” he said.
“It’s okay, I’m fine.” I clasped my forehead and laughed. Probably, I sounded hysterical. Like a rabid hyena. I couldn’t even look him in the eye when I took the keys from him. “Thanks for inviting me. I had a lot of fun tonight.”
“Me too,” he said.
I put the key into the lock, turning it slowly as I struggled with what to do about him and my out of control libido. Unlocking my door hadn’t given me enough time to figure things out, though, so I tried to prolong sliding the patio door open. That didn’t take long either, and I hesitated in the doorway, still unsure. I opened my mouth to ask him in, but nothing came out. So I stepped backward through the doorway, my gaze glued to his. After a moment, he followed me inside, part of his face lost in shadows.
Time stood still. My tongue darted out to lick my lips, and I lifted up onto my toes as he lowered his head to meet me halfway. The smell of his cologne surrounded me and my eyes drifted shut. He grasped me loosely around my back, pulling me close, sending shivers coursing through my body. His breath caressed my skin, his lips just a whisper away from mine, and my lips parted…

Woes of the 32nd Birthday
I shouldn’t say “woes”. That makes it sounds like I’m sad about my birthday. This is not the case. I happen to love birthdays. In fact, I prefer to celebrate my Birth Week, not just my birthday DAY. I mean, if you’re celebrating another YEAR, a week celebration seems like a good choice.
I shall call myself Queen for the entire week of the 12th. (Yes, November 12 is my birthday). Probably, I will want cupcakes every day that week. I probably won’t get them every day, but I will hope for them. Everyone should have cupcakes during their Birth Week. I will probably start a petition.
So, you might ask me why I’ve named this post “Woes of the 32nd Birthday.” It’s because I’m not sure how to celebrate this one.
It’ll be the first birthday in YEARS that my husband actually gets to celebrate with me. He works in a department with all men who seem to think deer hunting season is more important than this girl’s *yanks thumb toward chest* birthday. So, usually The Hubs has to cover someone’s leave. I’ve never got too worked up over it before, because I usually spent my birthday with friends anyway.
This year I want something different. Possibly plans out of town. I’m thinking Lincoln, strolling from bar to bar downtown, and possibly ending up at a hotel intoxicated. Laughter with friends, enthralling dinner conversation, too many martinis and cocktails…ah.
I’m sad that more than likely most of my friends won’t be able to travel out of town with me. I will miss them. But I will have The Hubs this year, and hopefully a few friends and family will make it.
Either way, I’m saying hello to another year older with a cheers and in a cute pair of shoes What about you? Do you have any amazing plans for your birthday this year? Or did you already celebrate and do something amazing??? If so, I’d like to hear about it. I need some ideas for my night in Lincoln. Nothing that involves tequila. It makes me irrational and wild. LOL.

“Early next spring. I’m hoping Jeremy will want to have the wedding and reception at the vineyard. Can you imagine? It’ll be gorgeous!” Lexie crossed her legs and leaned into the table, her eyes sobering as she lost her smile. “The engagement party is less than three months from now. At the country club.”
Reality set in like dead weight on the bottom of my stomach. I knew what country club she meant—the one where Brent was a member. The thought of having to fake nice around him in a room full of his close friends and family made the contents of my stomach curdle.
I couldn’t catch a break.
And then another queasy thought occurred.
“Oh God,” I breathed. “Please tell me I’m not the Maid of Honor and Brent’s not the Best Man, Lexie.”
The answer was just as obvious as the worry wrinkle between Lexie’s eyebrows. I probably wore an identical wrinkle between my own brows.
“Oh crap,” I muttered and clenched my jaw together.
“You’re over him, remember?” Lexie’s tone lacked conviction. “It’s going to be fine.”
“Of course I’m over him. That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t mind hitting him with a bat. Better yet, never seeing him ever again for the rest of my life has a nice ring to it.” I sounded pouty and I was. The whole purpose of avoiding any place Brent hung out was to never see him again. I’d always known Jeremy and Lexie were headed for a big fancy wedding, but I thought there’d at least be another year to get over wanting to strangle my weasel-of-an-ex-boyfriend before I’d have to participate in an event that involved him again.

Niecey Roy knew she wanted to be a writer from a very young age, but her moment of enlightenment came after watching the movie You’ve Got Mail. It was then she realized her place in life, and happily parked her butt on writing romance. Her dream was to create sexy vixens, hunky, half-naked heroes, and above all, romance; lots and lots of butterflies in the belly, breathless first kisses and happily-ever-afters.
When she’s not at her day job where she works as a legal assistant, she can be found at home at a cluttered desk, pounding her tired little fingers away on a keyboard with nothing but black pepper flavored sunflower seeds and Visine as her weapons for mass-romance-novel-creation. When her fingers need a break, you’ll find her at a table with friends, drinking a few martinis and showing off a new pair of (sometimes ridiculous) high heels. She’s usually the loudest at the table and most often the one snorting with laughter.
Niecey is the author of Fender Bender Blues, a contemporary romantic comedy published by The Wild Rose Press. Her new novel to be released November 2013, Another Shot At Love, is the first novel in the What’s Love??? series.
