Just a reminder that we are only human ❤️
Hello, you! I hope this finds you all well. It’s been a spell! I thought maybe you might need a reminder today, a reminder that I, myself, have needed quite often this year…and if I’m being honest, for a few years, now. Yowsa!
I spent the last three months being super hard on myself for not reaching certain goals I’d set. It really affected my attitude horribly. It’s a bit scary how easy it is to get lost in all the muck that can happen in life. I’ve been working with my health coach, who is so amazing, and she’s been helping me get back to feeling myself. As my coach Justine puts it, “Like the badass that you are.” 
She’s really been a light in my life over the last year.
I’ve even started journaling again! I use it to brainstorm ways to reach my business goals, work through issues that are troubling me and clouding my mind, and judgement. I’d forgotten how cleansing journaling is!
Do you journal? I love writing in a fancy notebook with a really great gel pen. It’s the simple things in life, for real!

EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT – UNPUBLISHED SCENE
She awoke to the scent of bacon and coffee, and in an empty bed. Trey’s bed. She’d been here for two days, her and Morris Lawrence. She hadn’t wanted to leave Trey, not since he’d come to her house that night. Not after she’d been so terrified he could have been the hurt firefighter.
Hillary rolled over and smiled, stifling her squeal into Trey’s pillows. She hadn’t felt this happy since . . . the day of the ribbon cutting for her bakery. This giddy, elbow-numbing, exhilaration of waking in his bed after spending the last few nights wrapped in his arms, with no intention of running, was overwhelming in the best possible way. She had made the right decision. She felt it in her bones, with every breath inhaled that smelled of him.
Hillary was in love.
She sat up and pulled the top sheet around her naked body. Giving it a tug, she pulled it from the bed and crossed the wood floor to the window. It was early, the sun still rising over the hills behind the farm. The doors to the barn were wide open. Trey must have gone down there this morning to work in his shop. With a smile, she turned to search for clothes. She slid on her panties, then pulled on one of his flannels, buttoning it up over her bare breasts.
In the kitchen, she poured herself a cup of coffee but didn’t stop for creamer and sugar. She chewed on a piece of bacon as she walked barefoot through the thick grass, still wet with dew. At the doorway of the shop, she paused to admire Trey’s muscles contract and flex as he pushed the hand planer along the wood board clamped into the vise. The vision was mesmerizing—; she’d never seen anything so sexy in her life.
She stepped inside, and realized she should have worn shoes. Her feet left footprints in the saw dust. She placed a hand on his back and he glanced over his shoulder, his lips curving into the smile she loved, had loved for a very long time. It felt so incredibly wonderful to be able to admit it, and to not be burdened with the need to pretend this attraction, these emotions, were inside of her.
He let go of the planer and she lifted onto her toes so she could lean into him and press a kiss to his lips. She pulled back just enough to say against his mouth, “I woke up to an empty bed.”
“Is that your way of saying you missed me?” His hands slid down to cup her ass, and his eyes sparkled with whatever mischievous thoughts were brewing behind them. Her body sang with anticipation.
“Maybe.” She set the coffee cup on the workbench, then smiled up at him. “Is there something you’ve done to be missed?”
He lifted her into his arms, and she wrapped her legs around his waist. “I guess I need to do a better job of giving you memories you won’t forget, huh?”
Then he kissed her with an urgency and possessiveness that made her toes curl. She# doubted whatever happened next would be something she’d likely to ever forget.

He stumbled into his bedroom, hitting the door, then bounced off a dresser before making it to the bed. He didn’t fall onto the mattress, though. Instead, he wrapped his arms around her and held her against his chest, his face snuggled into her hair.
“This bed’s too big for one. Are you sure—”
“Don’t even say it, Thompson.” She wiggled out of his arms.
“Ah, that hurts my feelings, Hills.” Pale light from the yard lamp outside the bedroom window illuminated his pout. “You’re the best, you know that?”
He stepped closer, and she held her breath.
“I . . . Thank you.” Her words came out strained. What is he doing?
He brushed at a strand of hair that’d escaped her ponytail. When his fingers touched her cheek, her eyes widened. Her pulse raced wildly while he traced a soft line against her skin before brushing the hair back behind her ear. She held her breath until his fingers drifted down to her neck, blazing a trail with their path.
Then his head dipped and she sucked in a ragged breath.
Every thought in her mind blanked from the intensity of his gaze. His eyelids fluttered shut, and his lips brushed against hers in a feather-light kiss. Electricity shot through her, straight down to curl her toes. The shock of it left her rattled. All she had to do was lean up to deepen the kiss. And she wanted to, which floored her even more than the kiss.
It was over too soon, just a quick brush of his lips. When he lifted his head, she resisted the urge to touch her fingertips to her mouth. The sensitive skin still felt the tickle of his beard.
He brushed her cheek with his thumb, his eyes searching hers, as if looking for an answer to a question he hadn’t asked. “If you were cold and wet, I’d snuggle you to keep you warm, Hills.”
“That’s nice of you to say.” Her voice shook, and she felt lightheaded. “I’ll remember that.”
Then he reached for his zipper, and Hillary’s eyes bulged with disbelief.
“Keep your clothes on!”
Oh. My. God. This wasn’t happening. Not when he was this drunk! She shook her head. I mean, not ever, she corrected herself. She wasn’t thinking straight. Nothing could ever, ever happen between them. They were friends. And he was an insufferable pain in her butt. He wasn’t even her type. No, Hillary wanted someone who wasn’t emotionally challenged when it came to relationships, and definitely not someone drawn to destructive relationships. Trey was none of those things. Nothing could ever happen between them. Not ever, she told herself more sternly.
“I can’t sleep with my pants on.” He tugged off his jeans, and she couldn’t tear her eyes away.
Holy moly.

A new River Bend novel is coming!
So…finally, right?! I’ve received messages in the last two years, asking when readers would get to see more from the River Bend series. It’s a lovely idea, you know? Community, family, best friends, gravel roads, pastures, corn fields, dangling your feet off the river bank and into the water, drinking a cold beer on the tailgate of a pickup truck… It’s how I grew up, and it’s why I’ve enjoyed writing about it so much! And I know many of you have fallen in love with the town, the people, the possibilities.
I’ve been writing the second novel for what seems like FOREVER. I know most of you understand what it’s like to get overwhelmed with work and family and LIFE. And that’s what happened to me. But I kept writing, whenever I could squeeze the time in. And…
So this is happening! Yay! This is the FIRST teaser. And I’ll post more as they come in. And I’ll share some fun stuff about the characters here on my blog. Make sure to drop by often!

It’s always super exciting to know something you’ve written is out there for the world to see, and this is my favorite book. My FIRST published book. I was excited to get my publishing rights back so that I could update it for today’s readers and to have a new cover designed, one of my choosing. I am very happy with the end result, and I feel like this book has gotten the love it deserves, from the cover to The End.
If you love a snarky, sassy romance, in which both characters’ personally struggles drive them to act or do certain things they may not normally do, something that feels like REAL LIFE, you’ll love this book. Life is about self-discovery, making mistakes, learning to live and laugh through them, and to grow. Sometimes, events are out of your control and can set a person back in ways they never saw coming and cannot have imagined.
