Writing S-E-X Scenes…
It’s so funny, I’ve never really thought much about it before. You know, the couples in your book doing IT. The scenes flow together, electricity flies and suddenly the characters’ clothes fall off. BAM. No bigz, right???
Until you’re writing a hot scene and your 9 and 7 year old walk into the room. HA HA!!!
For some reason, I don’t remember it ever being a problem with my other novels. You know, the sudden stage fright and blush on my cheeks with the uncomfortable thought…I’m writing naughties and my kids might find out! Not like would be able to tell or anything, but still. I shut the laptop and pretended great interest in what was on TV.
Which got me thinking, I clearly need a more private place to write those scenes. And, writing them in front of my husband would probably result in not so much writing, but book research. *wink* Some of my blog followers are writers themselves. I’m curious, where do you write your sex scenes? Do you have any habits, like maybe pouring a glass of wine and dimming the lights? (haha, but seriously!) I mean, does the mood have to be just right? My kids sucked all the “electricity” out of that moment and I had to move on to write other scenes, and am now going back in the second draft (in the privacy of my office) to fill in those hot spots. I’m not sure I could write them in my favorite coffee shop, either, though at least I wouldn’t be busting out laughing as I do on occasion writing the more comedic scenes in my romantic comedies.
As a reader, I don’t think I have a problem with reading the hotter, sizzling scenes anywhere. What about you? Well, now I’m off to finish a naughty scene
